It’s so weird reading this post from Master Chibi a couple of years back:

As we decided what to order Sabin was looking at me oddly when he said he wanted to slap me for not talking to Mr. Wizard, and then I asked him about what?

“Melty Blood, chance of a lifetime and you passed it up!”

He was right, I really did blank out. We all ordered our food and ran back up again, when I decided to ask Mr. Wizard a question or two about Melty Blood ever being held at any Evolution in the future.

At first he smiled, because when I asked my hands were clapped together as if I was praying, but he was kind enough to talk about it.

Basically he made the point that the game has to get a community going first, not only on EC but WC and elsewhere too. You know, get the game to blow up however possible. Make him notice that people are into this game and that it’s worth consider. He said not to take it as being hopeless either, and brought up an example. Street Fighter 3S was originally on the roster when released, only to be taken off due to lack of anyone even playing the game. Then out of nowhere the community blew up and they realized it was worth putting back in. They also noted that having around 100 entrants (TTT had around 90+ when it was held at Evo) is something that will quickly get them to take notice and get them to look into it more.

So it’s not entirely hopeless, and it can be done. If we could get 30 people last year, then Zaelar and myself are going to personally push for 50 this year. We’re looking to really start pushing the ranbats here on the EC, possibly by a projector for MB at Evo World this year (you heard right), put in $200+ into the pot, we want to push this shit and make it happen. Evo 2k8? Probably not, but that shouldn’t stop us for shit.

So let’s make this happen guys!

How far things have come along in the last three years. There are still a lot of things that need to be done (like coordinating donations, trying to attract foreign plays to come out, other events, etc.) and never mind the players themselves training up to bring their best game to Vegas.

One last item, two images to note this event:

A few things first, I wouldn’t have had actually gone through with this if it wasn’t for Arturo because at the first chance I had my mind went completely blank because I’m a fucking moron and more or less exhausted from Evo East.

Second, for NYC MB’ers, I managed to secure a TV to always have available for our tournaments at W2Z, more on that later.

Anyways, earlier today (Monday), around the time we were going to check out (originally 11am) myself, Zaelar, and Sabin were getting ready when we got suckered into watching the 5th (or maybe 6th) Pokemon movie on Cartoon Network. Haha, we stuck around until 11:50am, and then ran downstairs to check out.

A friend had come earlier that day (more like 3am) to tell us that they were literally giving televisions away due to the absurd shipping costs it would have cost to send them all, so we went up to the event hall to see if this was really true. There was literally like 20 televions in boxes sitting in the back with all the PS2’s, Dreamcasts, and games packaged next to them. At first we wondered why the event hall was open when that stuff was just sitting there, so we just brushed it off and went down to the parking lot thinking it’s best we head out.

It’s then that we bumped into Gavin (Echoes of Pain on SRK, tournament director at TGA) and Ralph (RushedDown on SRK) in the parking lot. Talked for two minutes, when I jokingly brought up the point of taking the tv’s.

Anyways, to make a long story short, he called a friend who was part of staff, who called the other head of staff, and told us to chill in the room for the staff to show up.

Sure enough they did, and sure enough Zaelar and myself took one televions to donate to W2Z, and Sabin took one to do whatever he wanted with. On the way back up with the boxes (the tv’s wouldn’t fit in the boxes so we took them out) we walked past / bumped into Mr. Wizard (do I really need to tell who he is?). We threw away the boxes, and Sabin got to chatting it up with Seth and Mr. Wizard about the old days. We had some laughs about EvoEast, the old days, and lots of other random stuff.

Then we decided to go eat, thanked them for the televions and a great time, and went down to the restaurant in the hotel to eat.

As we decided what to order Sabin was looking at me oddly when he said he wanted to slap me for not talking to Mr. Wizard, and then I asked him about what?

“Melty Blood, chance of a lifetime and you passed it up!”

He was right, I really did blank out. Congrats to jiyuna for taking 1st at the tourney with Nanaya, and Zar(Aoko) and XAQshinor(WLen) for getting 2nd and 3rd respectively. IIRC this marks the first time a White Len has made top8 in a US Melty tourney. If you live in New York, you should try to make it out to these events, as it’s a series. No word on when the next BBG will be, though. Videos were recorded, so those will also be up in due time. Check this thread for full results, discussion, and video posts:<br

The videos are of a Nanaya only 2on2 tournament, which sounds like a joke at first but the players are actually really good, and many of them are fairly well known.
Seifuku Akiha – Beat arcade mode with both Akiha and VAkiha
Mech&Neco – Beat arcade mode with Miyako
Neco Arc Chaos – Beat arcade mode with White Len and Hisui
Kohaku&Mech – Beat arcade mode with Neco Arc on a specific path where Koha&Mech is the first opponent. If they’re not 1st, then restart and try again
Archetype Earth – Not really too sure, but pretty sure Boss Rush needs to be beaten without losing a round

Boss rush mode is unlocked by beating arcade mode with all of the characters. In addition, it’s possible to just time unlock everything

If this sounds like too much trouble(and it should), then there’s a full savefile available here.

Finally, the next char to be featured in the MBAA character showcase is Miyako. The player is かんな(Kanna), who was a top Miyako player in MBAC and is continuing to use her in MBAA mainly using her Crescent and Fullmoon styles. The Youtube playlist contains videos of Kanna against various players at Joybox arcade. A little background about Joybox, it is an arcade located in Tokyo, and many people in the West know Joybox for its Youtube account Geesendou, which posts tons of match videos for lots of games. Basically, they record pretty much everything, so in the videos they put up on their Youtube account the level of play tends to vary wildly, since they’re not recording tournaments and just about anyone could go on the cab that’s getting recorded. However, occasionally some very good players show up and get recorded, which makes for great watching. Player names are never labeled in their videos, but luckily, through the power of the Japanese MBAA BBS, we know that the good Miyako in this set of videos is Kanna. There’s about 16 videos in this Youtube playlist. There are also more videos of Kanna available on the Meltybread Youtube account, which can be found very easily using the search function.

<object
