4chan down due to DNS attack

As of now, going to 4chan.org puts you in some kind of weird forum that was apparently made "for the lulz". After checking the 4chan blogspot, it turns out that their domain name registrar account was compromised.

Now before you start asking why the hell this isn't in another forum, that's because the topic is more about DNS attacks. What exactly is a DNS attack? From what I can understand, its when hackers deliberately fuck with the address so that even though you put in the real address, it actually directs you somewhere else you don't want to be, making this some new way of covert phishing. :psyduck:

DNS is, for lack of a better metaphor, your roadmap to the internet.  A DNS attack is compromising the 'directions' on that roadmap to point it toward something else.  The URL is just a name you give the DNS to find the resource, it isn't the location of the resource itself.

So in this case, someone has gained access to the account 4chan uses to register it's location to the world, and done unpleasant things to it to point it where they please.

I've had my DNS cache corrupted once, due to some crap with my ISP. I couldn't go to any website through its URL, only through its IP. So, if any of you really, really need your /c/ or /cm/ fix ((Ahaha~)), try perusing through Google in search of 4chan's IP.
