Although I'm not a fan of recent Shining Force games
« on: March 04, 2009, 01:36:47 AM »
Shining Force Feather has definitely piqued my interest.  Flight Plan has been pretty busy lately, and the more I see of them, the more I'm starting to really like them.

Anyway, they made it a hybrid of srpg and action rpg.  The way battles are run slightly remind me of Valkyrie Profile, though I wouldn't call it a clone by any stretch.  Also, it's for DS, so importing is cake if somehow it never reaches US shores.  I've no idea if it's planned to be released over here or not.  Oh, and for any of my fellow Shana fans, Ito Noizi is doing the character designs.  The game's looking pretty sex so far.

Kinda improved?  There's only two or three other games out there that have a similar play style, and not one of them has released in the US.  It not only looks relatively unique, but also very well done in just about every aspect.  I'd say this is a drastic improvement.  My level of hype for this game is unrivaled.

Yeah, fingers crossed on them importing it over here, the game really does look good, and much like The World Ends With You, it's different then what we normally get, and that's always a good thing.

Honestly trying to resist importing it at the moment D:

A turn-based strategy with real-time combat elements, huh. The only other game I know of which is remotely similar is Mugen Frontier.

Man, I wish I own a DS. This game looks fabulous. :psyduck:

I've been burned by pervious incarnations of "shining force" so i'l still remain unhopeful.

For now, Valkyria Chronicles is the spiritual successor to SRPG Shining Force.

Yes, aside from that and Namco x Capcom, there haven't been any games of this nature that I know of.  The new Valkyrie Profile for DS looks like it could be in that same style as well, but I haven't seen enough on it yet to get a good read on how it plays.  I don't play handhelds too often, on account of them giving me hand cramps from extended play, but maybe this new Shining Force will give me a reason to put it to more use.

Yeah, but since this new one is being spearheaded by a completely different development team, I'm allowing myself to have hope.  Although Flight Plan is a relatively new developer, they've already had one title brought to the US by Atlas - Eternal Poison.  That game had some pretty solid mechanics, but lackluster 3d aesthetics.  Without the 3d holding them back, I'm optimistic on their results.

And fuck yeah Valkyria Chronicles!  That game is almost worth buying a ps3 over.  I'd sell my body for a chance to play it through just once.

I really liked Shining Force EXA though.  Although it was a simple game, everything about it was perfect, and the characters were all super likeable.

As for this new game, DS >_>
