ahaha that's no--wait, what?

I started playing this game 2 weeks ago, and since then I've only played it one other time. My friend is an all out tournament fighter otaku. I don't have access to a Playstation 2, or a decent computer, and I need to beat him when I play him next Wednesday. I need ideas.

Go!

(I'll be back in 6 hours to see what you've come up with)

Choke him out with your controller cord when the announcers says fight.
:psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:  :psyduck:

Or you know, learn combos, pressure, and character mechanics.

If you don't have GDLK execution and don't have the game, then there's not much you can do since you won't have the opertunaty to practice or try out new setups anyways.

Well, to be frank I'm a little disappointed, I even gave you guys an extra hour, and only one (albeit good:

Remember, there are no bad ideas, only bad people.

Say Loli, can you define what do you guys mean by a poverty fighter? I noticed you guys tend to stick that label to the majority of half-assed doujin fighters out there.

Game? I'm talking about MBAA, I've only ever played it twice and I need help getting better than my ultra-otaku friend when I fight him next week without actually being able to play in the meantime.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Alfonse January 09, 2010, 07:34:22 PM
You want to know a way to get better or to beat him without being able to play or practise at the meantime? Were you hoping for a glitch, exploit or infinite that you can abuse? Sorry, doesn't exist - nothing less of choking him out with your controller cord will work now.

Hrm... so far two votes for strangling my friend Hitman style. Good to know, but just in case maybe someone has an idea or two that won't get me arrested.

they don't have to be glitches or... whatever the hell an "infinite" is. Feel free to get creative.

Keep in mind that I am pretty damn good, check the profile pic

Poverty fighter is basically any shitty fighter.  Actually, take that one step further.  A poverty game is any game that's downright horrible, but you still want to play it (usually just because it's hilarious).  Doujin games meet those requirements easier than most because of the low production values that go into them.

Also, there is no help for you Crosseyes.  My condolences.

They can't arrest you if they never find any evidence; lay out some plastic on the ground first to help with clean-up  (When strangled to death the body tends to lose bladder and bowel control, and even ejaculate in some cases). After the deed is done take the body elsewear and dispose of it in the manner of your liking.

Or you could only choke him into unconsciousness, but first ask yourself "What has he done for recently?".

Another pro strat is to bash him in the back of the head with a heavy object (I use my arcade stick) as Okizeme; it's a good setup because they probably won't be anticipating a cross-up overhead; and it leads into a free combo. If he starts to catch on to it, mix it up with hits in the shin and non-crossup hits to the head.

You can suck my dick in hopes of acquiring my handsome amounts of skill within this game. That'll cost you nothing short of $200 though. Otherwise your better off coming out from under your bridge, strangling yourself with a controller cord, and framing your ultra-otaku friend for the murder. That is the only positive situation for the both of you.

Actually a little correction. Poverty fighters usually are games that just look poor, are usually doujin or Neo Geo fighting games. They don't have to be bad (Fighter's History Dynamite is in no way is a bad game, but it looks poor as shit and is hilarious) but it usually helps (Morning Musume Fighter)

ALL ABOARD THE DRAMA LLAMA.

Okay, pick C-Roa; when he does random shit in the air or things with recovery far away from you rape him with a QCF+C. Then after the wall slam use QCB+ any of A,B,or C to drop down some orbs; use the orbs to zone him out. If he blocks your regular attacks just chain your normals into QCF+A, QCB+A really fast so that the QCB+A cancels the QCF's recovery; then use the orb to pressure him.

That's seriously the most braindead Roa stuff I can come up with, so there ya go.

Okay, so apparently crosseyes isn't troll and is really looking for random advice.  I apologize and move this thread back to where it originated.

Best help I can give - play a very newbie friendly character and learn their basic BNB.  You should be able to get a decent feel for the game with that and get a better idea of who you might want to try moving on to.

Some newbie friendly characters:
H Nanaya
H Roa
H v.Sion
C/F Nero
H/F Reis
F Ryougi
C Warc
H Tohno
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: mizuki January 12, 2010, 11:10:14 PM
I wouldn't exactly say F-Ryougi is a newbie friendly char, you have to know spacing and movement pretty well to play her and to keep on applying pressure.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: LoliSauce January 13, 2010, 01:35:39 AM

I always figured she was easy to play since her entire game is just spacing.  If crosseyes has decent fundamentals from other fighters, then this spacing should come more naturally I figure.  But I suppose it could be hard if you're not used to melty air movement.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Crosseyes12 January 13, 2010, 02:21:58 PM
...and the match(es) are over. It was close, but Twin beat me a slim 8 rounds to 0. I played pink (Dan-ed) Glasses fruit knife guy, one of those Shiki's I think, in Half Moon (I heard it was the speed style) I managed to flashlight him twice, but aside from that, minimal damage from my end.

Next time, however, he won't be so lucky. Thanks for all of your help everybody; this information will be put to good use on Monday. I'll stop by every so often to see if there's any other good newbie advice floating around ;)

I didn't get the chance to see this, but I think I was using one of the guys on this list... (It probably wouldn't have made a difference, he really kicked my ass -_-)

Finally, on a positive note, I did beat the tar out of him (well, in one round, anyways,) as well as the only guy better than him (Dan vs. Sagat, Dan ftw) on SF4  so today wasn't a total loss.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: ShinMasaki January 13, 2010, 08:17:16 PM
so today wasn't a total loss.

Here's some advice. When you lose, make sure you are watching WHY you are losing. Are you getting caught in high-low mix-ups? Does your wake up game suck? stuck by Chaos JC? Watch for why you are losing so you can fix that for next time. Even when you are on the losing side of things, if you are trying to improve, its never a total loss.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Crosseyes12 January 14, 2010, 12:36:38 AM
The pressure was always there and I could never get a word in edgewise; once the combos started, there was nothing I (in my level of ability) could do. but I suppose that's something I'll pick up after a while ;D

Yeah, melty is pretty heavily centered around pressure, so you'll have to get a feel for when are safe times to mash out/reversal/shield/etc.  Because of this, stepping up your defensive game is the most important thing for a beginner.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: FireBearHero January 14, 2010, 06:34:56 AM
Slap your friend whenever he starts to combo you. Failing that, at least shit-talk him into the ground so he plays like ass.
That'll seal half of the deal for you right there.

he failed to block high.

matches went as this:
easily seen 2c(ME) -> dropped combo (though i did get it without invalids or nothin twice (of like the 15 times i tried)).

oh and failed iads cause i donts practice. so random jumps until i get them.

he plays 4, someone give him the link to s-blade's 4 to MB.

PRACTICE YOUR COMBOS NIGGA
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Alfonse January 15, 2010, 04:24:11 AM
Flashlight? Assuming you mean the move he takes off his glasses, the entire game goes into slow-mo, and you do some epic looking screen-sized, slash (aka his Arc Drive), seriously, don't bother with that. Work on your combos instead.

Since you use Shiki (fruit knife glasses guy), you can start practising on the most basic of combos in MBAA:

Down+A, Down+B, Down+C, C, jump B, jump C, jump B, jump C, air throw.
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Twinniss January 15, 2010, 07:47:35 AM
he means shield when he says flashlight, and just shield, no real follow up
: Re: Brain-Thundercloud weather
: Crosseyes12 January 17, 2010, 09:53:35 AM
There was one chain of moves that I did a lot (mostly on accident from mashing) that was a combo (in the sense that it chained together with another move) and wasn't a combo (in the sense that it was blocked even after the previous moves were direct hits)

if I recall correctly, it was a few (three maybe) low taps followed by some sort of dashing slash move (that was always blocked.) I was playing Half moon *FNG. I was wondering if anyone recognized the (poor) description of the combo and could help me out if this combo has more use than just opening me up to get countered.

Thanks ;D

I'll just have to rely on Twin to bring it in on wed.
