Okay, so apparently crosseyes isn't troll and is really looking for random advice.  I apologize and move this thread back to where it originated.

Best help I can give - play a very newbie friendly character and learn their basic BNB.  You should be able to get a decent feel for the game with that and get a better idea of who you might want to try moving on to.

Some newbie friendly characters:
H Nanaya
H Roa
H v.Sion
C/F Nero
H/F Reis
F Ryougi
C Warc
H Tohno

I wouldn't exactly say F-Ryougi is a newbie friendly char, you have to know spacing and movement pretty well to play her and to keep on applying pressure.
what the fuck is this game

I always figured she was easy to play since her entire game is just spacing.  If crosseyes has decent fundamentals from other fighters, then this spacing should come more naturally I figure.  But I suppose it could be hard if you're not used to melty air movement.

...and the match(es) are over. It was close, but Twin beat me a slim 8 rounds to 0. I played pink (Dan-ed) Glasses fruit knife guy, one of those Shiki's I think, in Half Moon (I heard it was the speed style) I managed to flashlight him twice, but aside from that, minimal damage from my end.

Next time, however, he won't be so lucky. Thanks for all of your help everybody; this information will be put to good use on Monday. I'll stop by every so often to see if there's any other good newbie advice floating around ;)

I didn't get the chance to see this, but I think I was using one of the guys on this list... (It probably wouldn't have made a difference, he really kicked my ass -_-)

Finally, on a positive note, I did beat the tar out of him (well, in one round, anyways,) as well as the only guy better than him (Dan vs. Sagat, Dan ftw) on SF4  so today wasn't a total loss.

so today wasn't a total loss.

Here's some advice. When you lose, make sure you are watching WHY you are losing. Are you getting caught in high-low mix-ups? Does your wake up game suck? stuck by Chaos JC? Watch for why you are losing so you can fix that for next time. Even when you are on the losing side of things, if you are trying to improve, its never a total loss.

The pressure was always there and I could never get a word in edgewise; once the combos started, there was nothing I (in my level of ability) could do. but I suppose that's something I'll pick up after a while ;D

Yeah, melty is pretty heavily centered around pressure, so you'll have to get a feel for when are safe times to mash out/reversal/shield/etc.  Because of this, stepping up your defensive game is the most important thing for a beginner.

Slap your friend whenever he starts to combo you. Failing that, at least shit-talk him into the ground so he plays like ass.
That'll seal half of the deal for you right there.

he failed to block high.

matches went as this:
easily seen 2c(ME) -> dropped combo (though i did get it without invalids or nothin twice (of like the 15 times i tried)).

oh and failed iads cause i donts practice. so random jumps until i get them.

he plays 4, someone give him the link to s-blade's 4 to MB.

Flashlight? Assuming you mean the move he takes off his glasses, the entire game goes into slow-mo, and you do some epic looking screen-sized, slash (aka his Arc Drive), seriously, don't bother with that. Work on your combos instead.

Since you use Shiki (fruit knife glasses guy), you can start practising on the most basic of combos in MBAA:

Down+A, Down+B, Down+C, C, jump B, jump C, jump B, jump C, air throw.

he means shield when he says flashlight, and just shield, no real follow up

There was one chain of moves that I did a lot (mostly on accident from mashing) that was a combo (in the sense that it chained together with another move) and wasn't a combo (in the sense that it was blocked even after the previous moves were direct hits)

if I recall correctly, it was a few (three maybe) low taps followed by some sort of dashing slash move (that was always blocked.) I was playing Half moon *FNG. I was wondering if anyone recognized the (poor) description of the combo and could help me out if this combo has more use than just opening me up to get countered.

Thanks ;D

My guess would be 236 A/B/C. (Did HShiki inherit Nanaya's 214 in MBAA? It's been three months since I last played the game)  :mystery:

GAH! Third week in a row I have been denied a chance to play  :'(

Any ideas on how I can maybe get a copy for myself? Preferably a PC version for low (very low) cost and low hard-drive space (my computer isn't in the best shape)

I've tried google and so far I haven't found anything substantial, any help would be appreciated  ;D

Thanks, didn't even notice that was more than an ad banner :P

I checked it out, and, though I appreciate it, the game fails both of my requirements (Not for PC, and $60)

I'll just have to rely on Twin to bring it in on wed.
