Sorry I had to do that, he does that in EVERY FRIGGIN THREAD I MAKE IN DUST LOOP! (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d120/k9neko/ciel3.png)
But yeah, Sometimes I get easily discouraged cause Im originally a spoiled brat and Im used to always winning and having things come easy for meso when Id see I wasnt invincible It was the most sucky feelin in the world, but its a humbling experience everyone needs to keep him/her a good sport that can win and lose with the best of them. Im still workin on it, but the times id lose after practicin hard, Id get discouraged and not wanna play the game or wanting to take a break but id always come back cause I am very stubborn :prinny:.
As I told Leon on the phone sometimes you have to eat the loss, save your pride and use that as your drive to get better. I just say keep hangin on, and practicing. Good Luck Tsukihime, well id call you Moon prince buuuut.. dont know the word, and your always a moon princess in my eyes ;) :V :prinny: :fap: :fap: :fap: :fap:

...If memory serves, that happened during Kagetsu Tohya. -_-
As for the thread topic, well, at first I used to be used to winning so much that losing out would always get me discouraged and worked up, making up excuses justifying my loss. Nowadays, every time I lose it still gets me worked up, but thinking how can I beat the situation next time... And since I have a couple of friends training me that can consistently beat my ass up good, I tend to get one hell of a workout every time I lose. XD
-

Yeah.

Course there WAS a sprite version of it in Re-ACT like he said. I think.

I used to be able to lose all day and have fun but I get frustrated sometimes when I get owned repeatedly. I need to drill the fact into my subconsciousness that I'm not as good as I think I am. :prinny: On the other hand, when I lose now, I think about how I lost, rather than to just keep playing and hope it figures itself out.
-
Not anymore really.
-
It depends on who I'm playing. If I walk into a match knowing the person is better than me, then I'm not discouraged at all. Just means I need to play harder. If I walk into a match not knowing how good the other person is, then I don't get discouraged so much as I do get pissed at myself.
Also: Motion to move this to Sacchin Toast unless this thread gets back on topic real quick.
-
Not at all.
Just yesterday I lost in a row against someone, I dont know his name in this boards but hes from this forums.
Given my inputs were comin out a second after i press the button cuz my connection is shitty, a loss is a loss and he was pretty good anyways.
For me its fun to have someone beat me even if its repeatedly since im after the thrill of a fight not the actual win itself. Plus it gives me something to aim for.
-
Its just kinda annoying to me when I practice like all day and lose to a guy who doesnt play the game seriously anymore. Im like what the hell :slowpoke:
-

Melty is pretty much the only fighting game I take "seriously", but I just acknowledge that I'm pretty much a total scrub and there's a lot of people (aka everyone) WAY better than me. If ANY game gets to the point where it's making you mad, it's time to put the controller down and cool off a bit. Games are supposed to be fun.

Yeah I know that much lol, But when I try to fight others I always come out at the bottom at this game for right now. I dont know if I have to grind on training or what to win in this game. But is that the true trial and tribulation of being a fighting gamer? :slowpoke:

(oh sorry I dont know to double quote in post yet) But yeah sadly enough when I was losing for some reason(I could feel heat building up in my ears like a old school cartoon char) I was thinking in my head the whole time all that training just to get beat up. :-\

I second that thats a good way to look at it, just it hard for me to put the controller down when going against a shit talker, thats hard as hell to do.

Same here, but I gess shit talkers as I said are my biggest problem. That and I just need to play more in games that hate to lose in so that I can get more experience in tryin to be a good sporrt. I want to get it so I can come out smiling or at least be a good sport no matter what the outcome.

There will always be shit talkers. Just put up with it, maybe it'll inspire one to beat their ass into the ground, and then spit on their face.
-
This never happens to me. *fistpump*
In all seriousness, stuff like that doesn't really bother me. I'd just consider it more practice.
-
Of course I get discouraged. It's the reason I quit for a few months.
-
I get discouraged for like an hour after the loss (in tournament).
Then I come back twice as fucking strong next time.
-
Well, I do get discouraged if get beaten by the AI.
(Well that doesn't happen all the time)
Then I do a rematch and I get serious
But if its versus my friend, I don't demand a rematch.
I just cool down.
-
Getting beaten by the CPU when you're rusty is somewhat justifiable, but also kinda frustrating, especially when you're perfectly aware yourself that you can beat it easily when you're in shape. The main problem is actually getting back into shape, if you ask me. But getting beaten by a human opponent is just friendly competition and either luck or better gameplay, I guess. Sometimes you just get bitched out by Lady Luck, and sometimes you really can't argue against your opponent's proficiency. :)
-
Rarely if I get beat by the AI I just start the whole game over and start from the beginning. :slowpoke:
-
u win some, u lose some.
u'll get your 30-0 days and your 0-30 days, no biggie.
just work on improving your game.
-
I take losing in stride. If I lose to somebody, it really isn't a big thing to me. Actually, I usually laugh like hell. No, it's not to hide my pain of loss or any other BS like that, I just get a real kick out of going up against somebody in fighting games, skilled or otherwise. If I'm repeatedly getting beaten by someone, I try to rework my tactics (e.g. Faultless Defense, which I still need to learn how to do T_T) a bit for my next match, but I'm pretty chill if I'm on a losing streak. It's all about having fun, and it's a good way to practice if you're losing :D.
The only way I'll get discouraged if I lose is if the person that I go up against is not only cocky, but exudes an aura of an asshole. I can get a bit discouraged if I lose, but if I beat em, it's like whopping on a retarded bigot in Halo 3:
Simply satisfying :3.

"Do you get discouraged when you lose a lot even after practicing?"
---...this doesn't happen to me...---the getting discouraged part, i mean...
-
No.
Except when it's game mechanics like Ciel dashing through every black beast and ex-hieroing/dashing under/clashing -insert any move except 5a here-. Then I just laugh and try to find entertainment value out of it. :toot:
Or losing to Nanaya. Because he's a gigantic faggot. aaaaaaaaaaaa
If I lost to scrubby players every day I'd probably kill myself, though. But that's why you practice, right? You don't lose to players that are worse than you. If you're losing all the time, you probably suck. Unless you're LK. Poor guy dies in 2 bnbs.
-
No, I don't really get discouraged. Chances are you keep playing with the same people over and over again right? So, as you get better so do they. If they were beating you at the begining then chances are they'lll still be beating you now. As along as you are both practicing the same amount anyway.
-
Not discouraged, because praciticing is my own business ;D
And maybe a little OT here, IMO It's not fun to go against people who are obviously on a different level of play. If I get to choose my opponent I'd rather play someone about as good as me, than someone whos too pro or too new to the game.
-
I only get discouraged if I can't figure out why I'm losing, like if I get tech punished by something I didn't think could tech punish, and instead of not teching, I just figure it's luckboxing and continue. That's the joy of replays, though. :3
Basically, as long as I'm growing from the losses, I don't mind. I do mind wasting the other person's time, though... >.<;;
But, case in point, I lost 20+ matches to lain on the day I triumphantly ((haha)) returned to Melty Bread.
-
Meanwhile, I get kinda pissed when I KNOW why I'm losing, yet I continue to fall for it. (oh hi WLen 2CC blocked to 214C, you've caught me about 20 million times)
But then again, I'm newb. :V
-
LOL, I have this friend that mains Nero, and whenever I'm playing any of the Akihas, every time I superjump him he always catches me with the giant claw-thingy that moves upwards. Problem is, I already know I should shield when jumping against him because he does that EVERY TIME... and I fall for it EVERY TIME. :P
-

I have the same problem in reverse. I main Nero and have a tendency to spam 4C. My friend plays Akiha and EX-shields it and combo's me every time.
-
Not really because I suck at everything so it's nothing new.
-
Losing makes you better. There is no reason to be discouraged.
-
I don't know, the feeling of facing harder people then losing feels exciting. At least I know I'm learning. All I can say is that i don't expect myself to win all the time. But like the post before, if I cant find out why I'm losing then I do get frustrated.
-
I get pissed when I somehow manage to incorrectly block everything through a match.
Really quite pathetic on my part.

When I lose a lot I keep asking for rematches until the other person doesn't want any more. Practicing against an opponent who is better than you is how you improve, after all. Well... aside from training mode, which I hate.

Take note of this, MMO addicts. If your MMO is regularly making you mad more than you have having fun, it's about time to quit.
-
I almost never get discouraged when I lose. Usually I start giggling, I think fighting games are fun, and playing against people who are better than you is a good way to get better. The only time I ever get annoyed is when the reason I lost was because I repeatedly failed to nail a combo I should have, because this implies a personal failure on my part.
I know this guy who is a bit of a dick about losing who I netplay occasionally. See, he has quite a bit more experience than me, and I've been playing against him since I just started, which I think was about a month ago. I think the problem is that I played against him a lot and I adapt at a reasonable pace, so I started improving rapidly and he wasn't expecting me to start beating him in a third of the games we play together so quickly. Whenever I win, I watch in amusement as the cursor immediately drops down to "once again" after the fact.
-
Depends how bad I lose.
Regardless I usually enjoy a remach to see if it was just a fluke.
But im just sooooo awesome ;D
Yah, I do though...
For instince, i entered a tournament once and got raped the first round...
Ahh good times.

Though I'm not going to dispute that this does generally make you better, it should be pointed out that improvement can be sped up DRAMATICALLY if you consciously notice your mistakes and make a deliberate effort to correct them. I think this little fact tends to be overlooked by FAR too many people.

Quoted for truth
It helps a lot more if you're able to approach someone who's better than you with the mindset of expecting to lose but in return learning from your matches. Merely getting your ass kicked grows rather pointless and useless if you're doing the same mistakes over and over again.
Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for feedback (unless of course the player is a douchebag).
To answer the question though, yes, I DO get discouraged when I lose a lot even after practicing. Moreso when I can't get past my mental blocks and figure out what I'm doing wrong or what I need to work on and how to progress and improve.
-
If I lose alot after practicing it depends on the situation. If the matches are always close yet I never win I get a little bit steamed because I know its me chokeing and allowing stuff to happen to lose the battle (like running into predictible heats or other attacks ive ran into the past 20 times.) But I play games to have fun and in a tournament setting you dont lose alot since its usually either single or double elimination. so no I dont get mad if I lose alot even after practicing.
-
Losing makes you better. There is no reason to be discouraged.
TRUTH
-
I used to but now im used to it but a win against manifesto is common so that brings joy!
-
I don't lose. :mystery:
I don't get discouraged.
I get a little annoyed when I lose to scrubs in netplay.not that often but shit happens.
-
lol practicing. :V
-
Losing is a good thing.
It teaches humility.
-
Practicing alone has it's limits. Doesn't matter if I can do omgwtfbbq stuff in pratice mode, I will still lose that poking game against a decent player.
However I do get discouraged having to calibrate my shit all the time. I can open up practice mode and bring up my cutting synch loop to 97% success rate with no visual/sound cue (yhelothar netplay tactic), only to have it go down to 30% the next day.
I do plan on continue playing mb daily for a year or two. If I think about all the time I will spend in practice mode just to not level down.... I wonder if I should switch to warc or something.

They will beat you to all the throws and win the ground pokes. It doesn't matter that they are just winging half-ass combos, they'll win because you can't land your stuff. It really is frustrating at points.
I pretty much stopped practicing the combos (since I can land them somewhat reliably) and went back to basics. IADs on command, better timing on air throws, block strings, etc. Eventually I can see patterns and break through the poking game, but it takes time and effort. I think playing vs someone who has experience with other games helps a lot since it forces me to know my character inside and out as in what normally beats what (excluding bullshit clash...), how to bait stuff, how to halfass combo off a random hit that got through. Sure that type of game isn't very flashy, but apparently half a combo landing into a favorable position is much much better than no combo at all because I couldn't get into that perfect max damage setup I tried in practice.
In short, srs business :D

Solution: Don't lose. :mystery:

I just go play someone easier.

I just go play someone easier.
How does that help you though. If you're playing someone below your skill level, and you know that they're below your skill level, doesn't that defeat the entire purpose.

Makes you feel better through victory (though it might be a total thrashing depending on your opponent's skill level).

It would be empty to feel good about beating someone you know you can beat. Maybe it's just me, but I don't get satisfaction from winning unless it's someone equal to my level or higher. :mystery:

It's just human to feel shitty after losing, you need something (or someone) to displace that dissatisfaction. :V Of course, there are many ways to cope with it. I wouldn't beat on someone on a lower skill level than myself (I'm a huge VAkiha scrub myself) :V

You know what's odd, I find that I have no qualms to losing, even repeatedly in a row, to anyone EXCEPT for the people that I actually know and trained to help them get to where they are today. For some reason playing them I end up getting frustrated easily and start playing worse. It doesn't really make sense. Maybe it's because I've always been better than them, and I generally feel I should be better due to me knowing how they play very well? I dunno, but it bothers me somehow.

The harsh reality is that they have overtaken you in skill, when they were once your apprentice.

But that's the thing, in any other game that wouldn't bother me at all. I was TRYING to make them better than me. But it's more like...they're still playing the same and making the same mistakes, but I just can't punish them anymore because I'm making just as many mistakes myself. It's just frustrating to not be able to do what I know I SHOULD be able to. You know?
