When's Melty on Steam?
ahaha that's no--wait, what?
-
I know there are a lot of great fighting games out there, but when I sat down to think about it I couldn't think of any.
Wanting to get into some more fighter games besides MBAC I was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions.
Also I don't know of the "Cult" versions to play...
Games I know of:
MBAC
*SnK
*KoF
*=What version do I play?
-
How about kof.
-
Go play Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter III Third Strike, they each are the best in their respective subseries.
-
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core.
-
I thought I already noted KoF? Eh
Oh yah! How could I forget about Street Fighters, Must check
Guilty Gear XX AC... I think my friend has that? I've watched it never really played (Probably not that version though)
-
Go play Street Fighter Alpha 3
This was a joke, wasn't it?
I think KoF98 is worth a try, and of course Guilty Gear XX Acc Core.
-

Nope, honest to god.
-
When I played SFA3, I thought this game was very weird. It had good graphics 'n stuff, but the game itself was... stiff. I started playing fighting games like KoF and the Garou Densetsu parts, first one was Garou - Mark of the Wolves (which is my favourite SNK fighter after all, fun to play via kaillera). But SFA3... nah.
-
Samurai Spirits (Samurai Shodown), Darkstalkers or Marvel vs. Capcom...maybe Rival Schools and Project Justice
-
If you like loli-fighters, you'll love IaMP :V
-
Toki- I mean Hokuto no Ken, or Loli no k- I mean Arcana Heart are both well made fighters, minus the tiers :psyduck:.
-
Aside from the popular ones already recommended, here are some great manga-based fighters. IMHO:
Bleach DS 2nd (NDS)
Narutimate Accel 2 (PS2)
These are lesser known games that tend to be overlooked by the fighting game community just because they're based off a manga.
For PC doujin fighters:
Akatsuki Blitzkamp
Arcana Heart
And of course, you have to mention VF5 as far as 3D fighters go. But I'm not such a 3D fighting game fan.
-
One Must Fall 2097.
-
For PC doujin fighters:
Akatsuki Blitzkamp
Arcana Heart
lol

Yeah uh Arcana Heart is for the PS2 >_>

To each their own, I guess. Being used to and having grown up with the older SF games, I actually thought SFA3 was quite awesome.
-
Well, there's always M.U.G.E.N....
And then there's MVC, CVS (Capcom vs SNK), Rival Schools is good, Tekken (all of them), and the Virtua Fighter series.
Then there's Guilty Gear.
-
Well, there's always M.U.G.E.N....
DIAF KTHX.
Repeating a bit of what's already been said:
GGXX^CORE
IaMP
Soul Calibur II (IMHO: SCII > SCIII)
I personally own KoFXI, but I haven't gotten to play it much since the only person I know that plays fighters at all doesn't have a fucking PS2 (I'M LOOKING AT YOU SONITI GODDAMNIT).
-
Do people here like, avoid comp or something? Most of these games have no comp.
-
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core.
Thread should have ended here.
-
Go play Street Fighter Alpha 3

I second the GGAC and KOF, May Sallutes You: (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d120/k9neko/may-clapclap1.gif)
-
I play IaMP
-
I play IaMP
Me too!
(It has comp)
-
What a marvelous list this is!
IaMP looks amazing from a video I saw on Youtube.
Apparently I have a Samurai Showdown game for SuperNES!!!
Also one more question...
What is usually played at tournaments?
-
It all depends on your location really. The Guilty Gear scene seems to be pretty big in general (from what I've noticed, most melty players main Guilty Gear). 3rd Strike and MvC2 also seem to be pretty huge.

Ahh, thank you
Last question I SWEAR!
When picking up KoF which version?
Im thinking KoF IX?
I tried a little research but... I prefere your guy s's opinions.
-
-Street Fighter III: Third Strike is hella fun. It's what I played before I discovered Melty Blood (I found it ass backwards; I played MBAC before Tsukihime).
-Marvel vs Capcom 2 being pretty hax, though it's been ages since I've played it.
-King of Fighters is supposed to be a good series, though I can't say for sure.
-Immateria and Missing Power is good if you like lolis and want to mindlessly shoot magic at people.
-Guilty Gear was a fun series for a short while, but it quickly got old. Honestly, I think the gameplay is crap. It's more fun just to run around aimlessly; auto-kill moves and retarded supers suck the fun out of it. However, the sprites are pretty hardcore.

I'm sure I'm not the only person here that read this and though "What the FUCK Guilty Gear are you thinking of?"

Wow, you're a dumbass. Are you playing Guilty Gear 1?
Anyways, ST is the best game ever hands down.
-
Ahahaha, that GG sounds like a sidescroller or something. Seriously tho, 3s has the best comp in the country.

Those last two are amazingly ignorant
-
Oh man, I just remebered I played "Jojo's BA" what a strange game that is...
I don't know if anyone else has played it? Or even seen the anime?

That sounds like a game mechanic from Shaq Fu!

When it comes to tourneys, I agree that it does vary with where you go. Capcom vs SNK 2 (a.k.a., CvS 2) is also played at tourneys, as well as KoF XI. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection also falls into the category of tourney games.
For me, I stick with KoF XI when it comes to tourneys, because that's my best fighting game thus far. SF III: 3s is a close second, and I tried my hand at it in the last tourney that I was in (Woo, for Makoto!!). I'm not too confident in my GG skills and I can't play any of the top tier chars in MvC 2 anymore. It might change if I continue to practice Jam in GG and my team in CvS 2.
Also, LoL, Shaq Fu :D.
-
I'd say IaMP and EFZ are pretty good choices. The VF series is also outstanding, though I haven't really tried 5 since I refuse to waste money on a PS3 or xsuck360.
GG is also a good game, but it's excessively difficult to get into without having played the previous versions. You either have it, or you eat dolphins like there's no tomorrow. God, I freaking hate May and her bullshit knockdowns.
-
Shaq Fu, most epic basketball fighter ever. :O
-
STAY AWAY from:
Brudal Battle
Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport
Tekken 4
Street Fighter EX
DO PLAY at least once:
Soul Blade
Star Gladiator
Fatal Fury/Garou Mark of the Wolves (Err, pick one?)
Can't think of anything else not mentioned off the top of my head.

If you get hit by a random Instant Kill in the middle of a match, I don't know what to say.
I completely agree, I love to dash from one end of the screen to the other with Axl aimlessly. :V

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!
I rather dislike Guilty Gear as well. >_>

The whole combo breaker thing is used way to liberally on this board.
-
DREAMCANCEL
KOFXI is pretty awesome, especially since most stores that carry it well sell it for no more than 14.99 USD.
Neo Geo Battle Coliseum on the other hand, is only worthwhile if you absolutely must have/play all of SNK/Playmore's games. I felt the gameplay was too simplistic and didn't balance the characters very well, not to mention that SNK boss syndrome has been compounded in the form of King Lion.
-
Shishioh really isn't that good. Top/God tier is Mr. Big and Kim. And the gameplay is simple in the sense that it compares more to Super Turbo than modern games.
-
Don't mention the black star =P
Im starting to see a LOT of repeats.
Is it true that these are the only good fighting games?
I think ima look around for some doujinsoft, they have some awesome games out there.
-
I recommend IaMP, Smash, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
-
Also one more question...

You just keep getting better and better! :fap:
EDIT: Do NOT pick up Soul Calibur. All of them suck.
The only problem with SC is that noob button mashers can beat people that know what their doing.( :mystery: but it should be illegal)

Unless you're talking KOF XI,
what's considered Top Tier in NIO is Hotaru and Kim. The next few contenders are Tung Fu Rue, Mr. Karate, and Mr. Big. I personally play Shiki and Hotaru.

As there is no reference to Samurai Shodown V Special anywhere in this thread, which is very good and well-balanced, this is obviously false.
I mainly play that and IaMP these days.

I was talking about Battle Coliseum. NGBC Top Tier is Kim/Big and maybe Hotaru if you can do the trap. Trust me on this. I hang out with the top 3 NGBC players in the country. Tung is just gimmicks galore, too. As soon as you can block dive kick muscle man or beat it (Big Spin) then he's got nothing.
Big is top tier for several reasons. 2a beats most of everything. Spin beats every jumpin in the game if you do it early enough, even Mudman's divekicks. And you can hitconfirm all of his shit easily for high damage.
EDIT: Here is the official tier list.
S Class
Mr Big, Kim, Hotaru
A Class
Marco, Iori, Robert, Haohmaru, Mizuchi, Hanzo, Kyo.
B
Tung, Mai, Lee, Kaede, Moriya, Neo Dio, Washizuka, Mudman, Cyber Woo.
C
Shiki, Athena, K', Mr. Karate, Fuma, Kisarah, Shishioh, Terry, Shermie.
D
Akari, Rock, Geese, Asura, Mars People (and Rising), Chonrei, Ai (And Rising), Genjyuro.
E
Yuki, Chonshu, Nakoruru
Karate should probably be higher though since he's hard as hell to punish.
-
Guilty Gear XX#Reload for PC with netplay.
-
Im starting to see a LOT of repeats.
Is it true that these are the only good fighting games?
99% of fighting games have no comp, so what's the point of playing them? Even a lot of shit mentioned in this thread has no comp.
-
Where I live, almost no fighting game has had any comp, so I play what I like and seek to improve though netplay and traveling to majors.
My personal favorites:
Super Turbo
Real Bout 2 (easy to learn yet holds up very well at high level...still played in Japan to this day)
World Heroes Perfect (seriously, this game is like the precursor to Guilty Gear, I've even convinced Brandino to pick it up!)
Samsho 5 Special (this even got mentioned already, yay!)
GGXX (Slash was my favorite, though AC is no slouch)
I can give much more detailed info on the Neo-Geo stuff if anyone's interested. =)
