How do you bait an opponent into a counter super?
« on: April 24, 2008, 07:21:54 PM »
MB has no counter supers I know of, but for other fighting games like KOF, is it possible to bait your enemy to hit you (a human opponent) when you're using a counter super (supers that activate when an enemy hits you)? Or are they just too impractical for usage at all?

Baiting is universal....

For instance take your thread title "How do you bait an opponent into a counter super?" remove "how do you" and the question mark and you get your answer:

"Bait an opponent into a counter super"

seriously, it's not that difficult.

Think of it the same as landing a 214D in melty.

More appropriately, Hisui's.

Or, if you want supers, last arcs. They can be practically considered counter supers.

i think he's referring to supers like Remy's SA3 (Blue Nocturne) - the super where he raises his leg up for a second and does absolutely nothing unless the opponent hits him during this stance. another example would be dudley's cross counter...

Does Melty even have any counter-type moves besides Last Arcs? :psyduck:

Yup, moves like those. Another example is Lilly Kane's 2141236C in KOF: MIRA.

Well, not exactly baiting into a counter super, but I've used this quite some times: Using either Shiki, cast (Blood) Heat with enough Circuits left, and go into a blockstring just about anywhere. Leave a little leeway when you're finished with your string (a couple of frames only, just to let the opposition try and counterattack) then immediately unleash your Arc Drive. 9 out of 10 times, you'll catch them right in the middle of a whiff. :D

That might vary. An experienced opponent might be a bit warier when you activate your heat, so he might not attack like that.

And that's not even really a counter, if the opponent doesn't move, or keeps blocking waiting for you to continue, he'll get hit anyway.

Can't believe I just now thought of this. Wouldn't Last-Arcs count as "counter supers"?

Yeah, it's just that, instead of actually using the super to counter the move, you use the super BECAUSE you countered the move.

Much more productive, I daresay, and not as depressing when the opponent doesn't attack you when you use it.

.....
(weeaboos...)

the problem with counter supers is that super moves are usually preceded by freeze frame before execution.  so the major disadvantage is, "oh, the screen just froze.  i better stand still for a second."  so in the case of blue nocturne (remy 3s), you need to execute the super while your opponent is in the middle of an attack already (during activation but before execution).  so it gives you a very small window unless you see a really laggy move coming.  i've only ever seen two ways to effectively bait opponents into super counters.  first is on wakeup since most players like to use meaty okizeme and conter supers are instantaneous.  second is to stagger your rushdown on your opponent to bait them into poking out and counter the poke.
