How is IaMP played?
« on: December 16, 2007, 01:23:55 AM »
I'm playing on story mode as Patchouli, my first opponent was Marisa - after shooting at her for quite a while, she activates a spellcard, which supposedly is some unlimited super move that she can use on me over and over and over.  :psyduck: :psyduck: After using a continue, i killed her , then she gets up and activates another spellcard, and I went, "wtf, this is rigged".

I can't activate my spellcard either - the command list states that it's 236D, but Patchouli just does a forward dash when you input the command.

How the heck is this game played  :psyduck: :psyduck: :psyduck:

Activating the spell card is just 22 D.
then your character gets a magic circle.(that's just for display)
and to use the card, its 236 D.

In story mode, the other characters have a special spell card that is not usable.
Or its an upgraded version of a playable spell card.
Patchouli is really easy to play, because all you have to do is attack the enemy from afar.
Notice the red portion on Marisa's hitpoints bar? When you beat her up to that portion, she activates a spell card. Yup. She'll use it until you kill her. If her hitpoints bar is all red, that means she'll immediately activate a spell card and won't stop until you knock her down.

When advancing stages, you'll need to kill the enemy more than twice.(of course in games it always gets harder and harder :( )

:teach:
So good luck. ;)

Remember nanaya_t from Sacchin Toast? They're kinda like that, except because you can actually graze bullets as opposed to blocking them this time, you can reach them and hit them. Also, depending on the kind of spellcard they're using, they can get knocked out to the point where they never even get to use their supers (Alice is one such example - she's actually ridiculously easy to beat down once you get the hang of it if you keep on the offensive). Others, like Suika, have a spellcard that they can't get knocked out of, so it becomes a game of timing your grazes and getting those hits in.

After using a continue, i killed her , then she gets up and activates another spellcard, and I went, "wtf, this is rigged".

Lol, that's a slight nod to the original games. Upon depleting a boss' lifebar to a certain point, they activate their spellcards, and all hell breaks loose (their defense goes up the roof, and you have to avoid everything, etc). They just translated that to the 2D fighting platform.
At a time like this... I WISH I HAD A DIGITAL CAMERA!

The more beautiful and pure a thing is... the more satisfying it is to corrupt, isn't it?

I can see that they're incorporating original Touhou elements into a fighting game, but facing danmaku in IaMP is pure hell.  :psyduck:

The final boss hides your fucking mana and health bar during her last spell card. Worst fight ever.

I had a tough time with Yukari initially.

Just when I thought it was over, ZOMFG, NEW HEALTH BAR!

I hate dealing with that unblockable blade thing that flies around (and off) the damn screen) repeatedly.

I also have difficulty there...
Suika's final spell card is all or nothing, I guess...
Because you don't know if she's the one who's gonna die or it's you..
But when I used Patchouli, I just abused her Royal Flare. Hehehehe....
But about Yukari.... I don't want to talk about it because any character I use loses to that laser spell card thingie!!! >:(

Actually, Marisa already does that. While she flies around.
