Is there a better method? (Learning Arcade stick)
« on: December 08, 2007, 07:22:28 AM »
I'm at the point where I feel easily familiar with my arcade stick, but I don't have the acute kind of control I need to have spot on execution.  More and more practice seems to be yielding very little benefit.  This is beginning to frustrate me, and thusly I ask:  Are there any methods or exercises, beyond rote combo practice, that I can use to tighten up my control?

I'm afraid I don't know what fbs is, or I'm forgetting.  I don't have trouble with the basic specials, it's mostly complicated precision movements like 2367As, IADs into specials, etc where I run into trouble.

Well crap. That's the command interpreter.

I discovered today just how bad MB can 'forget' joystick directions. Apparently, if I'm blocking for an extended period of time, and I go from 1 to 2 (Downleft to Down) and hit Q to dodge... I don't get dodge. Because MB forgot that I was holding down. This is especially bad when waking up against Ciel.

:psyduck:
<bellreisa> arly *has* given up 3s

<linalys> it lives on in crouch shield
<proxyZAR> and it will die there too lol

Also, don't let Veteru hear about you badmouthing the MB Command Interpreter.  It's godlike after all!

Yeah, don't get too upset over how MB interpets commands / directional inputs. It can be royally dumb sometimes.

Just be thankful you aren't playing Arcana Heart.

Shit is fucking tragic, makes MB input problems look like a joke.

Sonofabitch.  Honestly.  It's starting to click, but there's no logic behind it, just instinct.  I just feel uncomfortable not having fine-tuned conscious control.  Muscle memory feels so limited to me...

Meh.  Thank you all for your advice.  I'll continue to practice.  I hope to make a good showing at WTX.

hmm, for those short cuts, its better to practice with KOF since most of the short cuts can be used there.

2367 are pretty common in KOF

Could be worse: you could be playing HnK.  Seriously, the input on that game is so loose that a combo with Toki that is supposed to be 2AAAC -> short teleport (623A) can turn into 2AAAC -> 236236C super if you don't go back into neutral before doing an uppercut motion. D:
