When's Melty on Steam?
ahaha that's no--wait, what?

So for those of you who didn't know, I'll be studying in Japan this summer (from July to December).  It's extremely difficult to get a student visa given the recent events, so in between summer and fall semester in Japan I need to leave the country for at least a week to renew my default 90 day-visit on my passport without getting deported by Japanese immigration.  As you may of guessed, plane tickets are expensive these days between the uprisings in the Middle East and this country's dire need for oil.  So traveling back to America between semesters would be about 5x as expensive as just taking a short "detour" to a nearby country during my break.

So long story short, I'll be taking my vacation in South Korea for a week over the summer in-between those semesters.  So, I wanted to inquire as to who are the Korean top players, and where the Korean scene is most active.  Since it doesn't really matter where my plane tickets goto, I figured I'd hit up a major MB city with solid arcades.  (And maybe goto a Starcraft League live).

Anyone got the info I'm looking for?

Also, anything else that's awesome/special/cool about South Korea I might want to consider?  Or should I just go hit up Hong Kong?

Dude, who gives a fuck about Korean Melty players?

Go enjoy a week off from class and take in Korea, you can play Melty again back in Japan.

I consider being able to go play Korean players and meeting them to be a part of "taking in" Korea and having fun.

I heard they had some good H-Nanaya's and F-Ciel's.

Meh, sounds like a waste of time to me but whatever.

My dear friend, not to sound offending, but if you could draw up a 7-day itinerary for me to "not waste my time" in South Korea where all days would be something far more interesting over playing a region of melty I'll never have the chance of playing again, I will consider it.

Like I said, if there's interesting things in Korea I don't know about, you guys should tell me.  I do want to make a bit of an adventure out of it.  I'm pretty open-minded about it but it just doesn't seem like there is any reason to NOT take a day out to hit up a popular Korean arcade on a weekend and play.

I've always had a passing interest in Korean culture and this will actually be a decider on if I want to try learning Korean later in life over a language like Chinese or Italian.

I don't mean to jack this thread but...

Does anyone know anything about the Melty scene in Shanghai? I will be there this september for around 3-4 months studying. Even if it ain't the melty scene does anyone know any arcades in Shanghai?

It was sort of a similar question so I didn't wanna make a new thread. Plus Komidol you could always go shanghai..

lol I got scammed at a tea party trying to find an arcade around people's square, that was before I learned to ask for "game centers" rather than arcades

never found a shanghai arcade but the chinese arcade scene is cool if you like scrolling shooters and kof or tekken. I never saw any melty though, found like one BB, one GG and one SFII machine out of about ten different game centers. Maybe shanghai is better, I dunno

aaaaand as a supplement here's a thread from shmups (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27054) about a couple decent shanghai arcades, not a whole lot about fighters but if you are at all interested in shuutingu geemus it'll pique your interest

Did you ever find any information regarding this then? It turns out I may actually be in Korea studying rather than Shanghai so it would be nice to play some Melty in my free time and shit

Actually not going to hit up either, got my visa and everything worked out.  I think CL will be coming to Japan sometime next month if he can though.
