Oniblade!
« on: December 19, 2007, 02:34:54 AM »
Hell it's been released in Russia and I was able to get a DVD at the promotion festival.
I can say one thing: HAWT!

Seriously. It's often compared to DMC. That's correct in it's own way. But Oniblade has not only the standard Hack'n'Slay, but also several magic skillz both good looking and being hell effective. The gameplay is damn fast. And when I say damn fast I mean it. The girl doesn't have a WALK animation at all XD

So you are running from Stage to stage, beating up monsters, getting souls with which you can buy skill- or weapon upgrades. There are 4 hotkey slots in which you can put magic stuff. So while you beat up guys with the mouse, use magic with the Keyboard. The skills are somewhat between standard magic arrows and mass damage stuff. Also boost spells and heal magic (costs souls :slowpoke:).

The graphic is hawt. Not best-of-the-best but very good looking, especially the totally overused HDR effects, that makes this game somewhat awesome. If you slay with the mouse, you can just mash onto the left mouse key which will result in fast hack and slay or you may hold the button every slash and the game turns into a short slow motion in which you can react faster and land more combos (because fast klicking is really hard to time). Mass battles are hell of a style. Slaying, gaining magic power from slaying, using mass destruction skillz, casting magic missiles at the darkness (Ya, I know~) and then beat the shit out of the enemies again.

Though it's not that simple. Most there is a unique monster that makes your life hard. It's like one shooting fireballs frequently or spawning more overlords / doing a barrel roll. You know what I mean. Beating this guy up first is nessecary, but don't forget the other monsters.

To say it short:
If you like DMC, half naked anime chicks, blood and eye-burning japanese-like magic effects then you should spend this few bucks into this game. It even has different endings and Cel Shading video sequences. Though it's only available in Russia (or the internets :teach: ) and not translated into English yet. But hell, it doesn't matter! :psyduck:

Kay. Back to work. *takes out his gunblades and beats up some random civilians*

Not all screens out of the net are good. There are really beautiful moments and stylish skill sequences all the time. I even managed to record two videos of skill animations:
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/7673/Animation1.avi (320x240; 186kb)
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/1825/Animation2.avi (800x600; 862kb)

Some shots made by myself.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/5495/shots.rar

I am using some of them for avatars and signatures in other message boards. Fits good =D

The ones from the actual website for the game are bad?  Didn't look bad to me... but I do wear glasses......

Don't twist my words. I said that not all screens are good. Not that all are bad. Different thing.

There's a problem by "Getting it". If you mean the unofficial way then there's a big stone in your way: Starforce 5.

Some day in January 2008 I think. But better think of the end of January or at least the end of February.

Btw.

There's a boss I hate pretty much just now. It's a giant dragonfly. You can't deal damage to it while it has mini dinos around it. You first have to kill them with hack'n'slay, ice + fire magic or simply with the strong mass damage spell.
After they are dead you have 6 seconds to deal damage to the dragonfly. 6 secons. :psyduck:
There's no time for shooting slow fireballs or magic missiles, simply penetrate it with your gunblades shooting. With the turbo spell and maximum mana for mg-like shooting, no problem. But the energy bar of the dragonfly seems to not decrease at all (because the guns don't deal much damage).
After those painful 6 seconds, the dragonfly builds more pylons, I mean, spawns more overlords. Err, mini dinos. Then the dance starts again.

I'll shit bricks tonight! :slowpoke:

It's just like in ReAct. Click your way through.
But later in game, do NOT switch Load with Save. It's horrible. :V

1: Resume
2: Save
3: Load

Watch out! :slowpoke:

I'm on the battle with the... guy with the mask?  The hell are you supposed to do.  The way I'm killing him sorta works, but it would literally take me two hours to do it.  Chain-freeze-lock is bs.  :V

It is right after the, 3rd(I think) battle with the blue lion.  It's the one where it cycles through torches, summons, yell of doom that pushes you off the stage.  The mask guy has spikes sticking out of his back, summons specters, and freezes you when you are close or cast magics.  Since every magic spell was deflected or caused him to chain freeze/poke me.  I ended up abusing the the red crystal respawn with light enchant and the single target aerial attack, but he takes next to no damage and camping  the bottom area where he can't hit me while waiting for the crystal to come back is pretty sissy.

Try them out. After you bought an upgrade, put them in one of the slots (Q, E, X, C, etc) and test them.

I prefer the golden boost, golden leaf sword power-up (don't know :V) and the chain-thunderbolt. Stuns enemies for a little period. And effective against metal spiders.

Maybe I can explain every skill with a screen.

Heals an amount of life, cost souls, depending on your level

Shoots an ice bolt, freezes enemies, light damage

White Len cameo. Ice crystals crack out of the bottom and freezes enemies around you.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/3831/shot%202008.01.14%2001.16.28.jpg

Don't really know. I call this Goddess mode. But it boosts your speed and your damage. And the glow is useful as a torch. There's a dark version of this earlier in the game, I don't have an idea if you can choose out of good or evil. The evil one looked stylisher though. Leasts as long you have leaves.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/7254/shot%202008.01.14%2001.12.35.jpg

Glowing golden swords with nice leaf effect, boost damage. (Goddess blade)
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/5993/shot%202008.01.14%2001.14.24.1.jpg

Shoots a golden energy ball. High damage. (Goddess beam x_x)

Nearly the strongest spells of the game, damages enemies around you. (Goddess whatever)
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/9703/shot%202007.12.20%2019.43.05.jpg

Electrifies your swords, if you have luck, you might be able to stun enemies for a short time, depends on the enemie though.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/9414/shot%202008.01.14%2001.16.46.jpg

Thunder bolt. Light damage, possible stun.

Chain reaction thunder beam. Does mid damage and stuns the enemies.

Fireball. Low damage.

Fireblades, light damage boost.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/4955/shot%202008.01.14%2001.17.22.jpg

Heat wave or something. Mass mid fire damage.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/9273/shot%202008.01.14%2001.17.50.jpg

Your basic gun. Low damage, slow.

Upgraded guns, still low damage. Shoots faster if you have mana.

Even more upgraded guns, low damage. Shoots damn fast with mana, you should try combining this with your goddess mode, damn fast shooting.

Light teleport. Useful to get out of enemy mobs. Teleports into the direction where the character is looking.

Improved teleport, further distance. Teleports into the direction where the camera is looking. (Does this damage? I'm curious because of the sword icon)

Improved teleport, even able to teleport in the air. Teleports into the direction where the camera is looking. (Same here, don't know if this does damage)

Your swords. Mid damage.

Throws all non-flying enemies at the ground, I don't know if this deals damage at all.

Your basic BnB :V Throws the opponent in the air and deals several hits, VERY high damage, the most powerful special move in the game.
http://www.npshare.de/files/36/2491/shot%202007.12.19%2015.43.01.jpg

I suggest there are more skills, but I haven't played any further.
