Something that happens to games when they become popular?
« on: May 29, 2011, 10:52:57 PM »
After watching a discussion between some starcraft 2 pros (State of the game), they brought up some good points...
Not sure why I'm posting this but i thought it was interesting

For some reason, when games start to blow up and their scenes begin to become huge (the transition from brood war to sc2) the flood of new people is good... more people to play with, just its overall sort of good.
The point they bring up is that on forums and stuff, the newer people read things and start arguing when they don't know much... or they want to prove their side right. (i guess the younger and the lesser intelligent?) From what I've seen, their argument points aren't very good, almost as if its just a circle of the same lines and the same idea and nothing really develops except hate. Also it sort of makes the pros of that community use the forum less and lots of shit starts to appear in each post.
It sounds like when a game blows up, the smaller tight community gets split and the forum is ruled by the not-so-intelligent people.
Not sure if I should be saying this because I haven't done anything really for this community (sorry guys Quebec Melty is non-existant... :'()
Anyone else notice that sometimes the random new people are total idiots? (Might not particularly have to be this forum but yeah)

Makes me glad that the community for melty has a community which is overall funny and nice. You guys trolling each other is hilarious, and are reasonably nice when random new people ask "stupid" questions. Thanks

On a side note, Naniwa (Sc2 pro) was listening to this list of music... I thought I should share it cause it's just AWESOME!

What if the small number of people there at the beginning are stupid?

Having idiots around means that they haven't had the chance to learn yet. When there's a lot of them then it becomes hard to teach such a large group and those that do teach start to give up since it feels like people aren't listening.

I think I've seen that list before, I approve for multiple reasons.

A lot of people start off thinking they're right about everything based on their personal experience and they don't listen to better players.  Good people don't like dealing with that from a lot of people and will use the forum less as a result.

Anyone else notice that sometimes the random new people are total idiots? (Might not particularly have to be this forum but yeah)

Of course not.......

The new stupid people will feel right at home! I feel it would be very unproductive though.

Haha yeah I actually didn't think there were any of those here. More like I feel like the idiots turns to non-idiots quickly. The amount of resources here are great, and this game isn't easy so I feel like the easy way out doesn't exist as much... People need to put in more effort. Its a great filter

Anyways thanks guys for the responses, I have a better understanding of this idea.

Komidol, I don't know why people troll you but its funny, you should find out why people do it. Maybe it'll help prevent it. Hehe
