にほんご を わかりますか
« on: July 06, 2007, 01:36:38 PM »
I suck at Japanese.  So you dudes who are good with the language, please help me.  おねがいします。

In a profile I use somewhere else, I'm adding a few Japanese lines to look for someone to practice Japanese with.  Here's what I have so far:

にほんご を わかりますか
(Do you understand Japanese?)

いっしょ に べんきょう しましょう!
(Let's study it together!)

Should I end with shimashou or shimasu?  I think it's shimashou, because it's indicating 'together'.  But I think "issho ni" already suggests that.  Also, should I add a sentence between these two to make it more smooth?  I'm thinking I should add something like "I'm still learning it."  Basically, I need a sentence that lets the reader know that I'm not a pro at Japanese - that I'm still learning.

"shimashou" is correct

If you wish to let a person know you aren't good at Japanese

私の日本語はあまりですが私は今日本語を勉強します。

I've only gone up to Japanese 4 in high school but I'm continuing it in college. (Just graduated.)

しましょう Means "Let's Do." anything with the ending of ましょう Means "Let's". Such as いきましょう。Which means "Let's go." Does this make sense? there are 3 types of verbs. Type 1, Type 2, and irregular. Irregular verbs are verbs such です Are irregular. Mailorder, if you want, I can't practice and study with you. I wouldn't mind, and I know quite a bit.

I'm not about to pretend to understand Japanese, but you are missing an "n" in "nihongo" if you haven't already found out.

Some stuff I use to study/learn:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_language
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_verb_conjugations
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_grammar
http://dict.regex.info/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/FG=r/dict
http://www.polarcloud.com/rikaichan/ (firefox extension)

But nothing helps more than someone who already knows the language so I would highly recommend taking Shashin up on his offer.

Please note that the best way to properly say hi to a male Japanese person is still "やんのコラ!?"

I don't know that much. I took some classes, but all I can really do is read and write. My grammar is lacking, and I also know very little verbs. That's why I said I would study with him.

Meh.  I'm self-teaching, which is a stupid idea, but there you go.

http://lrnj.com is a good place to start.
