I don't really care for any of the games in the series but IaMP is just better designed as a fighting game. SWR and its expansion seem like more of a for shits and giggles fighter like Brawl, that or to just get your Touhou fap on.
Except I'm not a Touhou fan so I just don't really play it regardless.
Tasofro themselves said they wanted to make a "game", not a "competition", with SWR. That is, less serious, more casual. Very much like the transition to Brawl. And also seems to attract the same kinds of players.
This translates to "Does it annoy scrubs? nerf it!" "Does it give an advantage to people with a working brain? nerf it!" (1.10 came out today and seems to basically continue this theme, from all I'm hearing.)
Regarding super armor weather, that's in there to give you an actual incentive to manipulate weather, since you don't really care about most of the weathers. If you are low on health compared to your opponent you will lose the round if it comes up, period.(There is no way to avoid damage in Typhoon short of being extremely lucky, as you have to come back to the ground sooner or later.) So there is that, except I feel it's nothing more than a distraction from the meat and potatoes of fighting games and adds nothing to the overall game flow. Just the game going "here's some random-ass prediction to make things more fun and interesting! DEAL WITH IT. Does it fuck you over in this situation? I don't care, it's fun!"
