It's pretty common for them to include the equal sign as a spacer.

From what I understand, they do that equal sign thing for Western ordered names, just to make readers recognize that her name is written out in Western order (wouldn't want people to call her Brunestud now, do we).

That's correct.  If they're going to denote the name as western or have it at least ordered in a western way (given name, then surname), they will put the equals sign between the names.
