WTB: Thin Monitor
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:16:22 PM »
I'm looking to buy one of them thin, flat panel, lcd thingymajiggers, but I don't want any display lag when I melt the bread. What keywords do I need to look out for, if want to hit those awesome one frame links?

Response Time?
Aspect Ratio?

Also, I need one that has a screen refresh rate of 75 Hertz or higher. Otherwise the flickering hurts my eyes, and I won't be able to get any work done, and I'll fail all my classes. On CRT monitors, anyways. I dunno if that's a problem on LCD's, I've been out of the tech loop, shrug-shrug, etc.

I don't think there's much flickering problems with LCD refresh rates. It does, however, affect mouse speed.

Aspect ratio is the screen orientation. 4:3 is standard TV and CRT's. Laptops nowadays usually have widescreen, 16:9 or 16:10. Little to no effect on lag.

Response time is what you're looking for. The lower, the better. Although, nowadays, LCD's don't get much lag. It's mostly HDTVs and stuff.

You might also want to try looking into flat-panel CRTs. While they're not as thin, there isn't a problem such as screen update lag.

Hmm, it's been awhile since I've touched anything involving LCD delay.

However, you didn't really state what was different. I guess I'll go refresh myself with wikipedia.

I don't even think lcd's flicker if you're worried about that.  Eye strain just comes from brightness since an lcd is just that liquid crystal stuff and a bigass lightbulb behind it.  Think gameboy advanced before they gave it the light lawl.
