Can I run Melty Blood in Linux?
« on: November 02, 2007, 02:38:10 AM »
I've reformatted my laptop with Ubuntu 7.10.  Is there an easy way to get Melty Blood to work with Linux?  I've heard there's applications that run Windows Games in Linux called Wine and Cedega, but I only know the name.  Is it pretty easy to get done, or is there some coding I need to do?

I'm a complete novice to Linux.  If anything, if there's a Linux expert here, I'd love to chat with ya using AIM or whatever to ask random questions.

Apparently, yes, it's possible. MBCaster should work too.

You could just not use linux. That always worked for me.

By the way, Are Melty Blood and Melty Bread different games?

Wine will probably work as long as you get DirectX working with it properly. That's about where my knowledge on the subject ends. For most things linux-related, there are well documented tutorials that you can google up. If that fails, you could try #linux @ irc.rizon.net. The people there tend to be kind and helpful for such things. Ask your question in-channel and if nobody responds immediately, wait around a bit, don't just leave. Also, don't be shocked if they send you to a tutorial(s) on the subject instead of explaining it to you directly. As long as you put your best effort in to accomplish it on your own, they will probably be willing to help you out. By the way, irssi (text-based) and xchat (gui) are both good linux irc clients if you are on 'nix right now.

You can also use another way out and install a Virtual Machine application, such as VMWare, and install Windows and MBAC in a virtual machine.

Even though VM's pretty slow. I'd just install it using the methods said here.

Depends on your hardware capabilities. I have a dual core Centrino Duo running at 1.66GHz with 2GB DDR RAM on a 5400rpm hard drive and an 128MB DDR ATI Mobility Radeon, so setting up the virtual machine to have a maximum memory of 512 in a 7GB virtual hard drive makes the strain on the VM entirely unnoticeable.

This has been shown to be a viable and valid solution.

I am interested in this as well.  Can I just use Wine?  No more Windows partition on my laptop.

As I said before, I read in Wine's compatibility database that Melty Blood can be run with little to no problems. You should go check the DB yourself.
