changing the aspect ratio
« on: December 04, 2007, 10:20:53 PM »
i've tired for days to look up on how to change the aspect ratio of MB on both my PC and laptop, more for the laptop though.  My laptop is running vista and its a 14in wide screen. its running an ATI xpress 200M. when i set the panel setting to use centered timings it runs really small. the res is like 640x480. any help would be great  ;D

you cannot change the aspect ratio of MB, you can however stretch the image and play it horribly deformed if you would like to <.<

go to your graphics card control panel.

under display, select fixed aspect ratio scaling.

this might sound off, but my laptop doesn't have that option. the only options that i can do are from the ATI catalyst control center. and there are no option for aspect ratios in there at all. i don tknow if this is the newest vrs. but i can't dl anything new from the AMD/ATI site. it has to be from gateway, its a little annoying becuase i'm pretty sure the new vrs of the catalyst control center has alot more functions. also i'm running vista home prem on this laptop.

That's how my Catalyst looks, and how I configured it to keep aspect ratio while scaling the image to max possible size on the screen.

No, this is the exact Catalyst Control Center that came with my laptop, an Acer Aspire 5672.

well it looks like i can't update my drivers at all, they installer keeps telling me that it can't find the INF file, god i'm starting to hate vista, but i've always hated ati. the only driver that will install right is from the gateway website itself. this is what i get for buying a cheap ass laptop. its the MT3075 from gateway.... >:(

My HP Laptop has the same problem.  Not all video cards have the ability to display stretched 640:480 in a 4:3 aspect ratio, your choices are "stretched" or "extremely small window".  Had the same problem with Starcraft.
