How to play on LAN?

I need help about how to play on LAN with my brother.
We always need to cramp at a chair together and play.
Sometimes the keyboard is really not responding and either one of us will die.
Please, any solutions to play on LAN?

I'm not sure if this will work:

Portforward a port. (e.g 8000)
Host with the computer.
Connect to IP:8000 with the other computer.

If you guys are connected to the internet through the same router, just get his router IP and connect to him (or vice versa). Simple as that.

have him open a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd) and type ipconfig.
the IP address listed there is the one you use to connect to him.

Use MBCaster... The one to netplay. But input the IP of the other comp on LAN.
