just as a side note, I have the red octane, ps2 -> usb, gamecube, xbox adapter and that doesn't lag at all with my hrap2 with no usb tweaking.

I use the Magicbox 3-in-1 (PS2/DC/Saturn) and it works perfectly with my HRAP.

I also picked up a Xbox/GC/PS2 adapter from walmart for $10, and it seems to work well also.

I was thinking of getting a HRAP but all that lag talk leaves me a bit reluctant. Is it worth spending 100-odd bucks for one if I already have a hori fighting stick 2? And if I do, will I need a new adapter (currently using EMS dual shooter)?
There's nothing to fear now.

The pelicans are linked in the original post, just use the 'find a store' link to locate a Gamestop that has one in stock.

EMS dual shooter lags regardless. You should get a new adapter. You'll notice the difference.

Picture

The Radioshack adapter on the left has input lag with the HRAP2 when testing on ReACT.

The Pelican adapter on the right has no input lag as far as I can tell.

Sorry, I don't have another stick to test it on.

I think that Radioshack converter has lag with certain sticks from what I've read from other posts. I've got the sort of old Radioshack with the blue shield on top of a black box, and I never noticed any lag when playing my T5 hori.

I guess it's Bring-Your-Own-Converter if you don't want to lag. *shrug*

I have definitely confirmed lag on the radioshacks.  They're marvelous for anything that isn't so precise you need frame-level accuracy, but nogood for melty.

I got the one mentioned in the original post...and I can't say I'm seeing much difference between the EMS, the old PSjoy and it. The pelican however is very compact and doesn't require drivers/joy2key so I'll probably end up using it. Good stuff.

Edit: Speaking of HRAP, are the HRAP3's just plug and play in pc? I mean hell, if those work properly why not just get one of the new ones and not bother with converters and such crap.

Yeah, HRAP3s are plug and play.  It counts on how serious you want to buy them though, since outside of PC they're only useful for PS3 at the moment, but as PC sticks they're excellent.

Bleh, I don't even have a playstation (boycotting Sony). I only got a converter because when I was buying my HFS2 there were...no HRAP available.

So I guess I'll be getting a HRAP3. Joy...200$ for the one with the good parts =/

Just get an HRAP3 non-Special and order and install the buttons yourself. You'll save money that way.

Money are going to get spent regardless. This gives me a reason to actually go to work for the 2 weeks I have left of summer...so it's probably a good thing since I'll be up a few hundred bucks afterwards. The feeling I have royally nutted myself doesn't come from the price of the stick itself, but rather from the shipping.

i'm not thoroughly convinced that USB overclocking will make that much of a difference for devices like gamepads with the Pelican.

As far as damage to your other connected devices, i haven't found a single reported incident, though devices DO seem to stop working high polling speed for Hard Drives is a resource hog, and detremental to its speed. There is also the importance of what kind of USB controller chip you have, and if it will play nice with your connected devices. There is also a document that mentions that each USB device comes with it's own Polling Interval value, that was primarily introduced when USB spec upgraded to 1.1.

Anyway, if you can read it, it's here:

http://www.lvr.com/usbfaq.htm

it could be, that the Pelican was originally designed for Guitar Hero, that it was manufactured with a high default polling speed, we won't know unless we get a readout. Though for you other people with other ps2-usb converters WITH lag, maybe this tweak can help you.

The pelican adapter forces analog to be on.  This might be a problem for some people.

Yeah, I was playing with Zaelar yesterday and Hisui kept jittering in place.

I ended up looking at the controller while I played for a bit and saw that the analog is forecefully left on, leaving my thumbs to sometimes accidentally brush up against the analog sticks, thus Hisui jittering in place.

That's obviously very bad, so it's a heads up to all you pad players out there to watch out for it. I'll bring two regular radio shack converters just in case people want them (such as myself).

That's odd... I play pad as well and maybe it's the way I hold it but I've never run into that problem.

I personally use the Super Joy Box 5 Pro (from playasia) and had never realized this lag even existed.  I just tried the USB Tweaker (first link in the shoryuken post), and my god.  What a difference it makes.
I have much to learn.  Evidently I'm one of the few F-Kouma's in the west?  If I get good enough, maybe I can make people see why I like him.

I go back and forth really D:

I was playing Zaelar on PC but we didn't have pelican converters, so I feel back into using a pad, and now I'm used to it so I guess until after Evo I'll stick with it.

This is the converter I've had for some time. about $20 shipped, two controllers per adapter, no lag whatsoever. I bought them for all my friends, and the only issue we've had is accidentally putting the switch to "game" rather than "PC".
