REAL PS2/PS3 Converter
http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/converters/real-ps2ps3-converter/real-ps2ps3-converter-review/

    * Power On/Off Controller
    * Power On/Off PS3 Console
    * Memory Card Management
    * Quit the game when playing
    * Assign controller to different port
    * Convert all the PS2 controllers to be used on PS3/PC/Mac
    * Easy and convenient to use, simply hot-plug the PC USB socket and install the driver, then it works perfectly
    * Real vibration feedback function
    * Both digital & analog modes are available
    * Support all the vibration types
    * Compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and the newest versions of Windows XP together with Direct X 7.0a or above

"Both converters ranged on average between the low 1s with 1.25 frames being the low and 1.375 frames being the high. Now all these numbers may be a bit overwhelming and may sound confusing to you. Just know that through this testing it shows that the REAL converter is as consistent as the Pelican ones when it comes to inputs.

Ultimately, I have to pass the converter crown for fighting games to the REAL PS2/PS3 converter as it does everything the Pelican one does and more. Length wise they are about the same, and they also both have LED indicator lights as well as the much needed PS/Home button. One advantage the REAL converter has is that it supports vibration feature wheras the Pelican does not."

Overclocking the USB does increase CPU cycles (so your CPU will work a bit harder) but yes, it's 100% safe.
: Darkshine@SRK
Okay, so, I tried the first prograt that was listed that alters the USB speed, and it completely fucked up my computer. The USB ports no longer recognized anything that was connected to them, and I had to use system restore and select a restore point over a month old to get functionality back. So, I'm just warning y'all.
: Fallback@SRK
You have to make sure your USB keyboad and or mouse device can work at that speed. Most higher end devices can. Here are two articles with links to programs that can tell you what speed your mouse and keyboard can run at. It works fine for me at 1ms.

http://www.truecarnage.com/how-to-ch...ider-it-r1.htm
As for this rate tweaker, I personally don't notice any difference, but it's probably there. Maybe the change will be more pronounced on a more laggy converter setup.

Old Stuff:

Arly Update: You can pick up the Pelican PS2/USB(PS3) Adapter through Amazon.com for 11.99. Click Here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KIPE12?ie=UTF8&tag=melbre-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000KIPE12)
(Please note that this is an Affiliate link and Melty Bread receives $0.48 for every one that you guys buy.)
:slowpoke:

Important Note: According to the reviews, this one from the Amazon link is not the same as the one gamestop was selling earlier so I can not vouch for this working. In fact, the reviews seem to state the opposite in fact. Furthermore, the picture provided is obviously not the same adapter. Proceed with caution >_>

The proper model # for the Pelican adapter is PL-6338 as stated in one of the comments.

12/5/07 Update: The old site with usbtwkr seems to be dead so you can find the file here (mirror 1) (http://frozenheat.net/usbtwkr.rar) or here (mirror 2) (http://fhaw.info/usbtwkr.rar).
Gamestop appears to no longer have the pelican ps2-usb adapter available on their website, but I'm fairly certain that they still have them in stock in my local stores - YMMV.

I was doing some reading on the forums and came across a few posts stating that the HRAP2 performs rather poorly when connected to a PC.

After running some tests, I verified this to be true. After some advice about not using radioshack adapters, I was directed to the Pelican PS2 > PS3 adapter which apparently also works for PCs.

My conclusion is that it runs just like the PS2 version I was playing no more than half an hour ago and my execution seems to be on the same level with no signs of input lag whatsoever.

So, if anyone's in need of a fairly cheap PS2 > USB adapter for the now-released PC version of MBAC ver.B2, then give this adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KIPE12?ie=UTF8&tag=melbre-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000KIPE12) a try.

tl;dr: Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-m-77-3-49-en-15-real%2Barcade%2Bpro-70-10up.html) works perfectly with this PS2 > USB adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KIPE12?ie=UTF8&tag=melbre-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000KIPE12).

If I can lay hands on em, I'll try em.  I'm using the classic converter, with the blue top.  I also have the more modern 'tinybox' one.  Neither seems to have a problem in the least.

: Re: Pelican PS2 > USB Adapter = Godsend
: Sledeau July 28, 2007, 09:00:20 PM
Yeah, I used to use the blue top one. I had a hard time noticing lag but I noticed a bit with doing some things with my hrap2, like shielding successfully and air dashing right before I hit the ground. I did a side by side of the blue top radioshack usb adapter and the pelican adapter by just jumping with hisui and trying to air dash before I hit the ground, and I found it much easier with the pelican adapter.

Pelican adapter kicks ass.

No, I'm not employed by gamestop or pelican. I'm just glad I got this all sorted out before the PC version was released without resorting to getting a completely new stick.
I gotta get myself one of these and I'm gonna assume that you got it from Gamestop.

Well, I'm getting a pelican because MBACPC is ungodly strict, so I may never have noticed, but I now suspect lag.

: Re: Pelican PS2 > USB Adapter = Godsend
: Arlieth Tralare July 29, 2007, 11:45:10 AM
Actually, I think even the Pelican has a slight amount of lag(we're talking maybe 2 frames at most here), but it's no worse than using any other converter on the PS2. It's actually more difficult to get used to the PC speed (compared to PS2) than it is to compensate for converter lag- you could even argue that the lag doesn't exist, and whose perception is solely due to timing differences. I need to play a bit more first to be sure, though.

Hahah, I'd be SOL with this. Over 9000 of the devices on this laptop involve USB, and I think the trackpad would still pick up even slight bits of motion.

a bit of warning for overvoltaging your usb ports

if you have hard drives or flash drives in those ports, you might fuck them up. so i suggest you try this on a motherboard youre not willing to cry over if it fries. I'm hearing the safety threshold is 500hz. any higher and youre risking damage to your connected devices.

I was thinking of getting a HRAP but all that lag talk leaves me a bit reluctant. Is it worth spending 100-odd bucks for one if I already have a hori fighting stick 2? And if I do, will I need a new adapter (currently using EMS dual shooter)?

I think that Radioshack converter has lag with certain sticks from what I've read from other posts. I've got the sort of old Radioshack with the blue shield on top of a black box, and I never noticed any lag when playing my T5 hori.

I guess it's Bring-Your-Own-Converter if you don't want to lag. *shrug*

I got the one mentioned in the original post...and I can't say I'm seeing much difference between the EMS, the old PSjoy and it. The pelican however is very compact and doesn't require drivers/joy2key so I'll probably end up using it. Good stuff.

Edit: Speaking of HRAP, are the HRAP3's just plug and play in pc? I mean hell, if those work properly why not just get one of the new ones and not bother with converters and such crap.

Yeah, HRAP3s are plug and play.  It counts on how serious you want to buy them though, since outside of PC they're only useful for PS3 at the moment, but as PC sticks they're excellent.

Money are going to get spent regardless. This gives me a reason to actually go to work for the 2 weeks I have left of summer...so it's probably a good thing since I'll be up a few hundred bucks afterwards. The feeling I have royally nutted myself doesn't come from the price of the stick itself, but rather from the shipping.

i'm not thoroughly convinced that USB overclocking will make that much of a difference for devices like gamepads with the Pelican.

As far as damage to your other connected devices, i haven't found a single reported incident, though devices DO seem to stop working high polling speed for Hard Drives is a resource hog, and detremental to its speed. There is also the importance of what kind of USB controller chip you have, and if it will play nice with your connected devices. There is also a document that mentions that each USB device comes with it's own Polling Interval value, that was primarily introduced when USB spec upgraded to 1.1.

Anyway, if you can read it, it's here:

http://www.lvr.com/usbfaq.htm

it could be, that the Pelican was originally designed for Guitar Hero, that it was manufactured with a high default polling speed, we won't know unless we get a readout. Though for you other people with other ps2-usb converters WITH lag, maybe this tweak can help you.

: Re: Pelican PS2-USB Adapter + USB Rate Tweaker = Godsend
: F9|Chibi August 13, 2007, 03:04:20 PM
Yeah, I was playing with Zaelar yesterday and Hisui kept jittering in place.

I ended up looking at the controller while I played for a bit and saw that the analog is forecefully left on, leaving my thumbs to sometimes accidentally brush up against the analog sticks, thus Hisui jittering in place.

That's obviously very bad, so it's a heads up to all you pad players out there to watch out for it. I'll bring two regular radio shack converters just in case people want them (such as myself).

My computer w/ crt monitor works well without the tweaker, with it I 'feel' a very slight improvement.

My new laptop w/ lag display, has some lag on its own, while with the tweaker is it very much playable.  There is probably still a slight delay though, I'm just not noticing it.

This is using the first download in the link to srk with it set to 500.

do parallel port converters have any lag? i'm using this really old psx -> parallel port converter and i was wondering if there's any lag in there. i'm using a hori fighting stick 2 and i sometimes switch to pad. i don't feel any real difference. what about HRAP's? anyone done any testing with those using a parallel port converter?

i also have a radioshack converter, but since those have been proven to have lag even with USB Overclock i'm going to refrain from using them. right now i'm going to keep using this parallel port converter, if memory serves me right those converters have very minimal/no lag but i'm just not too sure.

what about using USB sticks? do they lagg aswell since its a USB device?  I use my DOA4 stick for b2 and dont really notice any lagg normaly but im not sure.

If it was designed for usb then it shouldn't, but there always is a chance.

Windows' default USB speed causes an 8ms delay, which is less than 1 frame. Probably why you're not noticing it.

Anything lower than half a frame (there are approx. 16.6 ms in a frame in MBAC) should be 100% playable.

It's not an 8 ms delay, it is an up to 8 ms delay.  Assuming MB polls for inputs once a frame(60fps/16.667ms), this is a one frame delay about 1/4 of the time, slightly less.  USB tweaker to 500 and it goes to 1/16 of the time.  For some reason this feels like a big difference when using a laptop's display.

This is assuming there is no lag somewhere between you pressing something and the usb port on the computer(IE a converter lagging).  There is also display lag which this doesn't take into consideration and won't change no matter what controller you use.

I got this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200125667968&ssPageName=STRK:MERFB:IID) a while back, and haven't noticed any lag with it. Cost me $7 including shipping ^_^. I'll try the USB rate tweaker eventually and see if i notice a difference though.

If you don't wanna go to the ebay page, it looks like this:
(http://i22.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/a8/61/321b_1_b.JPG)

As an added note to anyone looking to get one of these, make sure you do NOT get the 4-player version. For some reason it seems like the four-player version cycles between reading each port, even if there's nothing plugged in, so what ends up happening is you get dropped inputs like crazy. It works great for everything that's not a fighting game, such as emulators, but it is god-awful for any fighting game.

Maybe the USB rate tweaker would help a little, but I'd rather just get something like the Pelican or EMS2. So far the EMS2 is the best one I've used, and I've never even considered using a rate tweaker with it. It's something to look into.

Just so everyone knows, I updated the first post in the thread with an Amazon affiliate link for the Pelican adapter. It's cheaper than the GameStop price, and GameStop seems to have stopped stocking them since Guitar Hero 3 came out on PS3.

According to the reviews, this one from the Amazon link is not the same as the one gamestop was selling earlier so I can not vouch for this working. In fact, the reviews seem to state the opposite in fact. Furthermore, the picture provided is obviously not the same adapter. Proceed with caution >_>

The proper model # for the Pelican adapter is PL-6338 as stated in one of the comments.

The link in the edited post only reveals a message from Amazon that the product isn't in stock anymore. If someone could suggest a PS2-USB adaptor that I could purchase and that keeps lag to a minimum then I'd appreciate it greatly. Looking around doesn't seem to be revealing a whole lot.

I'm not sure if Pelican converters are better than your average converter. Really, the main selling point is that it works with HORI sticks because HORI PCBs are notorious for being picky with converters.

Long story short: this adapter seems to have a short lifespan and although it worked great with HORIs, reviews seem to indicate that this adapter sucked for its original purpose: Guitar Hero. And thus, it was discontinued several weeks ago.

I suggest finding a new adapter for the plethora of HORI users we seem to have at Melty Bread... (I'm gonna try the one from USER'S SIDE because they're JP)

Japanese usually use the arcade for training. For japanese combo videos they probably use a usb pad or something, or a ps3/xb360 stick.

Japanese players don't need training mode; they're born with perfect execution DURRRRRRRR.

Actually, I would figure they would use Elecom adapters, as that was the brand I found floating around mainly when it was first an issue (when the PS3 first came out, before Pelican released their adapter).

For what it's worth, nearly every single IaMP player uses a USB Saturn pad.

So I got a nifty Elecom converter @User's Side.  Seems to work fine with my HRAP2.  I can do my Arc 4B relaunch combos.

Oh, and if we're doing Queen's Blade, I call Airi. :3
If you live in NorCal, you can pick up Elecoms @USER'S SIDE, an electronics store next to Mitsuwa, a Japanese supermarket. Directions can be found here: http://www.users-side.co.jp/USA_WEB/mapsj.htm

I heard from Jason Wilson that Pelican was forced to stop manufacturing the converters because of a lawsuit from Sony. They're working on something else but those in the know are aware that a component in the Pelican that Sony had copyrighted was responsible for the zero-lag response in the converters. Hopefully an alternative can be found.

REAL PS2/PS3 Converter
http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/converters/real-ps2ps3-converter/real-ps2ps3-converter-review/

Summary
Features:

    * PS3 Analog Support
    * Power Management
    * Power On/Off Controller
    * Power On/Off PS3 Console
    * Memory Card Management
    * Quit the game when playing
    * Assign controller to different port
    * Convert all the PS2 controllers to be used on PS3/PC/Mac
    * Easy and convenient to use, simply hot-plug the PC USB socket and install the driver, then it works perfectly
    * Real vibration feedback function

Hey I'm just getting in to melty blood and I'd like to use a PS2 controller(the xbox 360 dpad is the worst thing ever). I was wondering a couple things. I read the thread and I hear lots of complaints about the radio shack one with different kinds of sticks, but does it have lag with just a normal ps2 controller? If it does is the super joy box 3 a fine alternative, or should i wait for the converter in the first post to get back in stock?
: Re: REAL PS2/PS3 Converter + USB Rate Tweaker = Godsend
: Twinniss August 12, 2008, 08:53:11 PM
Real converters don't work well for analog controllers, in other words dual shock 2

if your looking forward to only playing on Pc then grab a Super Joy Box 3 Pro
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-6m-49-en-15-super%2Bjoybox%2B3-70-qc2.html

if your gonna want it to also convert to PS3 then your gonna have to grab a psx pad(you can find em on ebay for like $5) and wait for the Real converters to be back in stock

right now SRK is testing another converter for lag, if it turns out to be good then theres probably gonna be a post about it here

While I don't claim to be able to analyse it frame-by-frame, nor have much experience with the ps2 controller plugged into an actual ps2, my super dual box pro always seemed to get the job done with my dualshock 2.  After I lost that, my "usb super converter" that I got seems to work just as well (even though I don't even know who made this thing).

I'm trying to switch to using the arcade stick.  Mayflash's stick sucks, but that's why I'm planning on modding it.  At least, since it is both usb AND ps2, I don't have to deal with converters when using it on the pc or ps2.  With a converter, I used it just fine to play CvS2 on my Dreamcast (though I'm probably worse with a stick at that game than I am at MBAA).
: Re: REAL PS2/PS3 Converter + USB Rate Tweaker = Godsend
: dakanya September 18, 2009, 03:46:32 PM
HORI sticks are notorious for not being compatible with a lot of generic adapters and thus, lag is born. So if you use a HORI stick, you should be getting the best adapter available if you plan to plug in your HRAP2 to a PC/PS3
