Screen Tearing
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:27:31 PM »
Do you guys know how to avoid it? My PC never do that but whenever someone brings a notebook this shit will happen. Do you know what can be done in that case? It happened on TSB stream now and it happens a lot here when people bring notebooks for events so I thought we should understand this better to prevent it from happening since it's really annoying. Was it maybe the resolution (they used 1280 x 720)?

Here's an SS I got from the stream

Screen tearing happens because of refresh rate miss matches between the video card and the monitor. Make sure both are at 60Hz.
Make sure the video card drivers are up to date.
If the problem persists, you might want to hook up the laptops to an external monitor.
You might try to turn on triple buffering on the video card, but I don't know if melty supports it.
The only other solution for tearing that I know of is v-sync, which sounds like a terrible idea with melty.

I was testing some stuff here and figured out. My PC never did that, then I chose 1280x720 and bingo, screen tearing. I guess the easiest solution is play in 640x480 (default). The game will look the same in fullscreen anyway so this shouldnt sound sad for anyone. If the problem persists then doing what Texas Tim said should be the next step.
