Vista Issues
« on: November 10, 2008, 07:15:52 PM »
So I've installed cadenza b on my semi-new laptop and I've been having problems with the speed of start-up. On my old XP computer, the initial MBAC config menu pops up instantaneously and same with the game when I start it. However, on my laptop, it lags for around 20-30 seconds (disallowing use of keyboard or mouse) and then finally starts up with another 20 seconds waiting for the game to start. A friend told me it's impossible to avoid with vista, but I'm hoping someone here has a fix.

Spec summary:
Vista 32 Home Edition
T7250 2.0GHz 3GB DDR2
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

Vista 32 Home Edition
T2390 1.86GHz 2GB DDR2
That crappy Intel integrated video card

This laptop with its crappy specs can still run MBAC just like my desktop. I'm not sure if it really is a vista issue.

To be clearer, my laptop is a dv9743cl from Costco. Exact specs can be found here: http://www.costco.com/Images/Content/Misc/PDF/11203300_dv9743cl.pdf

I've only had this issue with two other applications: ventrilo and TF2. Again, much gratitude to anyone who can help me with this. MBAC is unplayable with that 1 min freeze.

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about, just so you know. The problem's not related to Vista, and is something wrong with some software (virus or otherwise) or driver.

Just a renewed plea for help:

I've uninstalled/reinstalled MBAC.
I've checked that drivers and directx are up to date.
I've tried running in windowed/fullscreen, ticked on and off every option in the startup screen individually.
I still get around a minute of computer freezing up before options are displayed, then another minute when I click start, and then game running smoothly unless I alttab.

Help?

Edit: just want to note that I have the same problem with the demo as well.

Try adding MBAC to your DEP programs?

Right click My Computer in the start menu, go to Properties. On the left, choose advanced system settings. Click Performance. Go to the tab all the way to the right, turn DEP on except for the programs I add to this list, and then add MBAC to the list. It helped MY load times, anyways, or I might be crazy.

Nope, still doesn't help. Thanks for the response though.

Patch to 1.03A? You never mentioned that, so I think you missed that step.

I have tried, thanks! Again, I'm thinking driver compatibility, vista issues, or language compatibilities here.
