Just started playing this game...
« on: November 19, 2007, 05:30:02 PM »
and I suck. I know I won't be able to be good at this game right away but I would like some help on things. Normally I can get through Arcade/Survival mode easily but I don't think I would be able to stand a chance during Netplay battles. The main thing I do not get is doing long combos. For example, a combo would be "2A 2A 2C 5BB jA jB airdash jB sjc jB jC". What do the numbers mean? Is that like a delay time?

Another thing that is bothering me is performing an ex-shield when trying to do a Last-Arc. I've tried looking up how to do an ex-shield and I have done it a few times but it doesn't activate my Last-Arcs.

First of all each character has different combos.
The numbers work like a telephone or a numpad of a computer. 5 is standing straight 8 is jumping straight up, ad so forth, so 214C would be down-back Hard attack. What controller are you using?
What Character Are you using? Ex-shielding a.k.a. parrying is pretty useless for a new player. it is kinda hard to use it must be timed right and it is like a block but you receive magic circuit (super). To
do a Final Arc you do half circle forward C (hard).
If you need help you know where to find me.

I'm not using a controller. I'm using the keyboard to play (arrow keys to move, NM,. to attack/parry). I use Akiha Vermillion.

Well i used keyboard for a while. (i suggest upgrading to a controller but keyboard is by far the best to learn on)
i assume you use nm,.j?
n=light
m=medium
,=hard/feirce
.=parry
j=quick action (down+j=dodge;forward/backward+j=grab; nothing+j= go into heat/blood heat.)
I don't know too much about akiha i suggest asking Kix or looking at the child boards for combos and tricks.

Alright, thanks. Is there a certain type of controller I should look for or will any of them work?

The most popular option is a PS2 -> USB converter made by Pelican, which lets you use a PS2 gamepad on your computer.  This gives you a solid gamepad that's tried and true, and allows you to use a PS2 arcade stick if you decide to go that route later.  There is a radio shack PS2-USB converter as well, which has a bit of lag,  but depending on your level of play, it may be acceptable.

Most PC gamepads have pretty shoddy Dpads, either too loose or they're 4-directional instead of 8.

That USB converter looks pretty cool. I might check it out later, but first...

I was looking around my house and found an old computer controller. It kind of looks like this.

Will this work or should I just get the USB converter?

Walmart is where I bought that one. Yeah, it's USB.
It should work then
If you like playing with it it will work
it is a little harder to play with a controller on mbcaster ir you want to use d-pad.
I can tell you how do do that if you need.
If you world rather play with ps2,xbox,or gc then the converter is the way to go.
I bought one and i got to of my friends to buy them, But you need to get  a driver for the xbox and gc controllers,.
You must plug it in let XP install the hub, then plug in a PS2 if you have one of will use one. then install driver then attach gc and xbox controllers.

Oh, good idea.

I'm having troubles using the controller. It worked fine earlier but now it isn't responding. All I had to do earlier was plug it in after I loaded the game up but now it isn't doing anything at all.
