Damage against standing/crouching opponents

After testing a few combos in practice mode, I noticed that I do more damage when I'm hitting a crouching opponent. Is this something new, or have I just not noticed this before (in MBAC)?

I just checked MBAC, (practice mode, as Arc vs. Shiki)

5a (whiffs vs crouching)
5b (617 vs crouching, 572 vs standing)
5c (950 vs crouching, 880 vs standing)
2a (381 vs crouching, 308 vs standing)
2b (427 vs crouching, 396 vs standing)
2c (855 vs crouching, 792 vs standing)

So it isn't new.
