Iron Blue Intention - Ciel Combo Video
« on: September 18, 2007, 01:04:20 AM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phq7mrUFI5k

My long awaited ver.B2 Ciel combo vid is finally up, with new material as promised. The title of the video is named after the song I chose which is from the Castlevania series. It's one of my favorite franchises of all time especially since it has correlations (albeit kinda subtle?) with MB (vampires, alchemists, the church). I thought the song was very suitable for this video because the title was an accurate illustration of the character; iron(black keys), blue(her hair color), intention(a vendetta to destroy Roa). I personally love how this turned out and I'm inclined to say that it's my best one so far. Hopefully you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Other thoughts:
-To maintain consistency with the title, I used my main color (#22) and the training dummies are all wearing a predominantly blue color scheme.
-Critical hits were turned off in order to display approximate combo damages.
-100 hit combo right on the dot. This one was murder to pull off since I would keep landing either away from the corner or in the corner randomly and I would often input the wrong commands for the relaunch.
-I'm not a pro video editor as you can see but I think the 2 intermission moments worked out nicely and were sync with the bgm transitions.
-The ending image was edited to match her intro pose.

Honestly I really liked the editing of this. It was simple yet effective, with focus on actual combos instead of how many effects you could have going on the screen at the same time. The intermission screens were also exactly what I thought they needed to be, short and sweet. People watch combo vids for the combos, not for a slideshow of character shots and I feel like you provided just enough of an intermission to keep the overall pace of the vid consistent.

Also, have you used that 100hit combo in an actual match? Must be one hell of a Psyche out move.

The editing was good.

The content was highly lacking.  Something like 90% of the combos are bnbs with wasted meter.

I'll give you a high-five for the music choice though.

I'll have to agree with Zaeler, most of the combos were either things I've seen before or combos that were bnbs but with more meter.

Although, I loved the song, brings back memories of playing PoR :p

<Graven> When you are Ciel, don't try to win, don't even try to do anything. The more you do, the stupider and bigger faggot you become because you're using Ciel.

I'd agree with you guys, but remember, this is melty blood. Each character only has like...5 real combos, which is hardly enough for a combo video.

I think we should adopt the smash brothers style of Combo videos which is instead of practice mode, its against other people in real matches. That way, mind games, mix ups, and combos that are actually useful can be shown instead of this, where its simply lots of combos where most are completely useless, but look cool. It also then showcases the skill of the actual player, rather than the combos of that particular character.

show me 10 matches doing cool shit in matches... cause i surely dont seemyself do cool shit in Matches to win, it usually ends in jC.. throw... 5a... Katto... that is pretty boring... or CH trade, i mean rarely isee anythign cool being done in matches..

example: 2 arc drives and somethign crazy happens or what not.

Smash Play is different style then mb so i dont'think MB can pull that off :V.. plus if the combo looks cool and is INvalid... then it shows... ggpo..

besides, i think that is what HF blade wnated to show, simple stuff, practical stuff and useful, if he wanted to show really cool fancy stuff, i woudl think he can just cut the combo down, in time and size and show the cool stuff...

But if you have different types of combos mixed up, you're not exactly going for your targeted audience.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It seems that everyone's favorite part of the video was the bgm. I wished more MB cmvs used Castlevania music in them.

I'd have to say one of my favorite parts of the video aside from the 100-hit combo and my ability to perform the ridiculously long otg loop, was clip #5. Who would've thought that dash 2C would connect after a 5CC? It was a pretty strict link and I actually tested it extensively to see if I could use it as a more damaging bnb but unfortunately I could never space myself correctly to have enough time to dash in and hit the 2C. So the spacing on it is very specific and only works if you're far enough and the first 5C whiffs. Final evaluation: impractical.

Also, have you used that 100hit combo in an actual match? Must be one hell of a Psyche out move.
I wouldn't consider using that in a real match. If I had all that meter and actually did it, then I BETTER win the match. lol

But can't taht otg loop be an infinite? It may have been nerfed or just my imagination but I think i remember a japanese ciel doing it but fucked up around the middle.

Also, the music in my opinion was too repetitive. I never played castlevania, so I have no nostalgia bias but it was just not exciting enough.

I don't think that Ciel's OTG loop is an infinite.
This comes from personal experience experience, japanese replays and and other ciel players I've asked, this would also explain the prescence of such loop in Act Cadenza ver.B correction  edition(If its here I really doubt it is an ifinite as I really don't believe game programmers are gonna risk game balance by leaving an infinite in, seeing how the prescence of an infinite of any kind simply destroys it.
This is MB and there might still be some obscure infinites hidden somewhere in there but Ciel's OTG isn't some obscure glitch, people have been doing for a while now, so its not like this would evade their eyes.)such are my reasons to believe the OTG is a loop.
as a side note different OTG loops could be used with different characters for more effectiveness, and the loop itself won't work on every character.(Though the OTG loop used in your vid works with most HF).

Anyways nice Vid HF.
This is a nice showcase of practical combos.
