: Re: West Toast #2
: juniorSantos March 25, 2007, 05:28:15 AM
yeah mason had the same problem with fast forwarding..

sorry im new to all this video stuff, so im still trying to figure everything out. im trying to make it stream on that divx site again, but when i encode it drops a bunch of video frames so the audio sync gets all messed up.

future videos will be put up faster/be of better quality when i start to get an effecient system going.

school/work is also holding me back. i want it to be summer vacation already

Hey, we're getting a freeze error at the 30:00 mark on the video. Everyone please wait for a later encode.
: Re: West Toast #2

VLC closes the video at that point... but at least VLC can fast forward/rewind through the other parts.

no excuses santos... we all have our problems, we just gotta deal with whats in front of us.  do things correctly or dont do it at all.  this no fast forward thing is unacceptable.  please refrain from allowing this to happen in future projects.

as for separate clips.. we dont do that here in socal.  it wouldnt be dramatic that way. and like the TNT channel, were all about the drama... unless you wanna do the editing for us, then be my guest.  but as far as the videos go, jr.santos is doing a kickass job, tho he is a ubernoob... at mb.. at video editing.. and at life.  hey.. at least we dont have any of that annoying ass talking that the camera mic picks up in other vids.. some people say dumbest crap... thats right.. you guys know who im talking about.  geez, plug the mic up or something.

ha ha! being a dick FTW!!!! Drama FTW!!! Ubernoob FT.......L!!!!!!

DISCLAIMER: if you take this seriously, you are a moron!  But I'm serious about jr.santos being a ubernoob

no fast forward+one single compilation ftl :(

We're all used to the denjin video format. Do you mean you wouldnt want to see a single compilation even if there was fast forward? I personally think seperate clips are boring.

And like I said I'm still trying to figure things out. Calm down people. I dont think everyone realizes how much time and energy it takes to consistently put up videos for you guys to enjoy. I now know how it is for the denjinvideo staff.(not talking to you IF crew)

So thanks XAQ i appreciate the FTL after putting hours and hours into this.

anyways better version up soon!!  ;D

JuniorSantos dont worry man. Your doing fine, keep up the hard work, just ignore flamers.... They should be appreciative someone is even taking the time (hours) to work on this shit...

I like the latest ranbat vid. Im gonna ask gootecks what he used. We would be able to have it for dl/stream on the frontpage.

Santos: Looks like a good portion of West Toast made it to the FTP but it appears to be cut off before finals. Was this intentional?

Also, sound appears to be slightly offsync in the Arly vs Bell match. What's your computer specs, and have you defragged your HD? That usually helps with the little micro-breaks during encoding.
: Re: West Toast #1
: Zantua March 28, 2007, 03:31:00 PM
i remember talkin with bsan and he said his compy was several years old.

also a few days ago when he was on comp 23 here at IF he said his specs are close to that

i know that but thats what he told me.
: Re: West Toast #1
: juniorSantos March 28, 2007, 04:13:19 PM
no it shouldnt have cut off. i started the upload then went to work, so im not sure what happened. gah this is getting frustrating, it takes like 4 hours for each step and its not working out..

the audio sync goes off for a bit towards the end, but is fine during the finals. that problem was from video capturing from camcorder to computer. encoding should be fine. hows the quality of the video other than that?

but yeah my computer is a few years old. only has 512 memory  :-\
i get home at 9. so ill try to fix it then

http://www.meltybread.com/juniorsantos/Interface_03-15-07_west-toast-1-finals.avi

Hmm. Looks good, the encode went well.

However, the size is a whopping 588mb. Keep this up and I'm going to have to upgrade my hosting :psyduck: so I suggest the following:

size: 320x240
bitrate: 600kbps video, 64kbps mono audio. It looks like you had 192kbps stereo, so you were using 3x-6x more bandwidth than necessary for audio.

640x480 = 307,200 pixels
320x240 =  76,800 pixels (1/4th the size)

Using a divx bitrate calculatorbrute force mathematics, you can achieve 511kbps encoding rate and get a 350mb file to cover the entire west toast tournament, making your file 41% smaller than its current state. 511kbps looks really bad at 640x480, but is smooth as butter at 320x240. Try it out and see how it works.

Calculations:
File Size: 588mb = 588*1024^2=616562688 bytes
File Length: 83.7 minutes * 60 = 5022 seconds
616562688/5022 = 122722 bytes per second, or 120 kilobytes per second
However, kbps stands for kiloBITS, and 8 bits = 1 byte. so, 122722*8 = 981776 bits per second, or 958kbps.
Subtract 192kbps for your stereo music, and that leaves us with 766kbps for the video.

64kbps sound, and 500kbps video (at 320x240, which is 1/4th the size) = 564kbps total bandwidth, or 58% of its original size.
Divide 564kbps by 8 for 70.5 kilobytes per second. 70.5 * 5022 seconds = 345mb.

If we want to be really aggressive, we can cut it down to 200 kbps for video for a 164mb file, or 264kbps for a 200mb file.

We've learned in the past that Marvel vs Capcom 2 videos usually have to be around 600kbps to capture the action because there's so much crap flying on the screen, but 3rd Strike videos can handle much lower bandwidth. I'm not sure about Melty Blood, yet, so some experimenting may be in order. I also know encoding these takes forever and a half, but if you take care of all the tedious experimenting and learning now, it saves you a lot of time in the long run.

Also, how much RAM do you have in your system? We could get you an upgrade for that, and that might help with the audio/video sync issues.

Tom you should edit the first post in this thread with the new link to the vid. Or just make a new thread for the vid's sake.
: Re: West Toast #1
: Arlieth Tralare March 30, 2007, 01:45:57 PM
I'm gonna wait till santos uploads the new video first, he needs to do some more work on it because the lower quality resolution makes the fonts unreadable. Once that's finished, i'll put a new link up. But in the meantime, i should edit that first post anyhow. I'll do that now, thanks.
