So, I'm a pretty below average arc player... My best bnb is 2a 2b 5b 2c 4b jbc jbc airthrow, I cant do the wallslam yet. having trouble connecting the first string of of the wallslam. Haven't tried the relaunch yet.

Anyways, I pretty much only play local atm, and my friend is really hard to beat, which is infuriating, because he doesnt even really know any combos. He plays as Tohno Shiki, and I just have a horrible time trying to poke through his pressure. Its unreal.

Some good examples of things that he does (because I can't post a video) are 2aaa 2b (236a?.... the dash forward slash move, safe on block)
hell go for that a few times out of a j.c, and I can usually always block it. My only real option is to sj.2c for the amazing clash frames.

The problem is when he starts to get more air heavy in response.... is there an alternative ground solution to his blockstring? I dont think sj.2c is the only way to get out, that just seems unrealistic.

also, occasionally he'll just rush in and "2aaa - dash- throw". Its fast as hell and kinda still looks like the blockstring, so... I dont really know what to do.

Remember, you have access to shield. My guess on the response if he's going in like that is to hold shield and cancel it into 214c when he hits it.

Tohno's pressure is tough, but there are holes in it. It sounds like your friend is getting the basics of the blockstring down.

If he is just jumping in with jC, you prolly have time to dash out of the corner.
I think you have a gap to jump out after that special you mentioned.
If he is re-dashing in and you know he will, you can poke him with a 5C or something.
And shield.
If the special is not airtight in the string, you can prolly dodge or back dash it and punish.
I personally have no idea if any of that will work. It's just stuff I would try 1st.

I also forgot to mention, 214c has clash frames on startup.

Tohno's pressure is nothing much, really. 236a and 236b are safe on block, but both leave him in a slight disavantage, so that is the time to escape or poke him.

My advice: just block until he commits to a move that you know you can get out after or wait until you think you can, then try to get out or hit him. If that means taking a few throws, so be it. It's not that much damage and he gets no scary mixups from it. Otherwise, keep looking for a hole in his blockstrings and start punishing once you see it (EX, shield, mash, etc)

thanks for the advice, it should help. I was just kind of avoiding shields because they seem kind of risky. Never seemed to work for me against 2aaaaaaa

but perhaps the j.c is different! I just have to believe!
