: When to use Shiki's AD/AAD
: KidPhantom December 02, 2007, 05:28:54 PM
I was really disappointed today to learn that AAD for Shiki is blockable. My god, how fighters block Mystic Eyes of Death Perception...  :mystery:

But besides the point, I'm trying to learn ways to set out for his AAD or his AD. Today, I played around with qcf + a/b and cancelling that in to an AAD. It works on the comp, sure, but that's cause the comp can't block for shit. Probably won't work in a real match... What do y'all think?

Isn't there already a topic and wouldn't the situations be similar regardless of a difference of characters? Tohno's  Arc Drive is better anyways because you're more likely to be in MAX than BLOOD HEAT and it's unblockable versus Nanaya's.

Nah, I do believe it is blockable.

Sorry, don't quite get that... I'm kinda noob, but what do you mean by being more likely to be in Max?

There is another one in Nanaya as we all know, but I was wondering if you could set-up for Tohno's AD/AAD with something like qcf BECAUSE it is blockable. I mean, I don't want to never use his AD/AAD cause its just too cool.
And... Not sure if situations would be the same=P

IIRC Tohno's is blockable at a certain range (otherwise it is unblockable)

MAX = 'natural heat' when you go over 300%

Oooh, knew about the MAX, but didn't know about the range thing.

Thanks a lot, that helps a lot.

Shiki's (A)AD is unblockable..... some of the time.

AD is blockable about the time Shiki's feet leave the ground.

AAD I believe stops having an active hitbox by the time his feet leave the ground.

Wow, even more depth description, thx.

So, essentiall, his AD/AAD is like Kouma's or Akiha's grab right? 'Cept its not a grab, and its way better to do up close, am I right?

In my opinion Shiki's non-blood heat arc drive is generally a poor choice of moves in terms of risk vs. reward and meter management. Throwing out any EX move will net you the same or more damage on it's own and you can combo into and out of those. (They also have safe setups as well)

To answer the OP's original question, seeing that I use my arc drive sparingly and generally only in blood heat I tend to use it after a dash in heat in the corner or after baiting a move with a medium to slow recovery time.

not like any of Shiki's EX is safe anyways.. you problaby end up with more meter using an EX instead of a AD which puts you at 100 percent instead of 200 percent, so whatever floats ur boat.

Hey, true, but the move is just so cooool!

I mean, you go MYSTIC EYES OF DEATH PERCEPTION BIOOTTCCH!

And if you get owned anyways, most of the time you can at say, "At least my char got laid by your char so =P."

i would like to see you say that when you fight Warchia, Nero, Nanaya, Shiki, or Kouma

Hmm the best idea for this super is to dodge then do it. Yes this is a game i recommend doing this at the end of the match. At least at the end of the match they are nervous and unsure what to do. When you dodge they will try to mash A or jump or backdash. If in any of these situations at point blank they will get caught.

THE ONLY WAY AROUND THIS MOVE IS TO DODGE!!!!!

Keep that in mind remember dodge is not a command used a lot in this game only for certain situations in example akiha's 2C. Anyway yes this is a good super but risky early in the match. I recommend using it at the end of a round or match (I prefer match for the kill). Other than that it may miss because if they input a jump command and then you activate super boom you miss. Match ender thats it.

Hmm, this seems really iffy to me depending on what's being dodged (especially if there coming in from the air in which case your screwed no matter what) as they could have ample recovery time to avoid it or poke you when your recovering (a spam, jumping and backdashing are all safe to do on dodge and leave the dodger with no advantage) and I could be wrong about this but I'm almost positive you can't cancel out of dodge. Seeing as you have invincibility frames with this arc you can just use it after you bait a meaty and catch them in their recovery frames.

A good thing to note about Shiki's non blood heat arc though is that some characters can actually dash through it from a moderate distance if their quick enough and the same ending frames of it that are blockable are also shieldable. (generally right after his back leg crosses his front.)

I say the best time to use Shiki's AD is in the corner and you dash in with 5a, if they block then you can get them with the AD for being so close to them. Another time is during a combo like 2c 5c AD but doesn't do very much so that is pretty much useless. As for Shiki's AAD, it's pretty useless since it has no reach, easily punished if dodged, and you would most likely not be in BH most of the time to even use the AAD.

AAD is SOOOOOOOO much more usable than AD.

thono's AD and ADD is a bit similar to nanaya's, just faster and short ranged compared to nanaya's, and not to mention that my brother uses him to counter my nanaya so here's a little tip

fake them to dash toward or away from you then use it. only exception to this when that character has teleports and extended back dashes. it also helps when you got them stuck in a corner

For noob or scrubs:
blockstring, 214b (cancel) AD/AAD
wakeup, mash 2aa, stop, AD/AAD
