Dont pay my ranting any attention. This should happen in some form or another. My issue is personal.

but I'm not in favor of saying "fuck Japan" over that when we have an opportunity for a domestic release. We've all worked too hard for that shit to happen.

Well I did say "some" not all, nor did I say fuck japan, I am really happy that the people who want to come and can afford to do so are making the trip. I am however not in favor in donating to anyones full ride if they really dont want to come in the first place, but only as a last resort...but I do see your point.

I second that notion as well.  I'm not in favor in donating toward someone's ride for free.  While it's great they want to come and can potentially be sponsored, that sentiment doesn't swing both ways, imo.

If Ecole wants to pay for Japanese players to come, then that's fine.  The US community should not shell out any cash to get JP players to come.

Yeah, I'll be giving money to our own players to get to Evo first before I give it to the Japanese, sorry.

Getting your ass to Evolution (yes, YOU) is priority one; everything else is priority two.

Now if after you've secured passage you want to throw some bucks at a player (domestic, foreign, alien, etc.) that's your choice.

Well having some Japanese players might or not help the EVO scene. Don't think it will have a very big impact from a foreigner point of view (my 2cents view). Of course they might showcase alot of high level play but I think you guys have people who can showcase that too, not on the same level but close.

On top of that, not everyone knows what the hell is MBAA much less the players from Japan. Keeping the hype alive at EVO will still be the most important thing I guess. There is a EVO APEC which is EVO Asia Pacific held in Sydney, Australia for people around the region to participate. Currently the game which they are hosting is SSF4, the champion of the tourney will be sponsored to fly over to Vegas free and seeded thru the prelim rounds. So maybe pray hard they might include MBAA too, but my hopes ain't too high for it to happen, pray for the best only.

Well, these players are currently the best around. Pretty sure we're still far behind them. They'd be the best at demonstrating high level play and (hopefully) getting people interested in the game. Here's hoping Ecole will sponsor some of them, or that someone will hold some sort of qualifying event/tournament for sponsorship. I'd really like to see Yoshino show.

Update:

So I talked to Mr. Wizard on IRC and this is basically the break down:

  • It is against EVO's policy to have their hand in bringing players over to an open tournament
  • It is possible to have a sort of partnership program where they supply PS2s, games, and/or funds for EVO in exchange for advertisement, but that would be the extent
  • I will be sending an email later to Mr. Wizard in to clear the details and have him write up a letter to ECOLE for that
  • Even EVO can't have their hand in bringing players over, what ECOLE does on their dime is... (ok?)

Even just having ECOLE's name at EVO is a step in the right direction in my opinion. I'll update everyone as soon as I find something else out.
They can't get enough of me

Some points were expected.  Good news though.  Ecole and Evo working together (even if it's only minorly) is a good step in the right direction.

This is quite exciting and even 1 or 2 of them would be interesting.

Clearly, you weren't mashing hard enough.

It's only been a few days, I assume Teruta hasn't been able to get in contact with all the players yet, or maybe they are mulling it over and have not responded back yet. Wonder if Kaimaato will show...

watching SBT, SAT or whoever in EVO video with English narration will be really cool...

How about finding a way to netplay Japanese people with delay 1?

Can't come = Set of circumstances that means that they actually cannot come.

Any donations would be for the "poa" group... But hold off on that for now.

Yes, let's give them money even though they're NOT in the "want to come but are poor" group.  It would make sense to give people money that can't come for reasons that don't involve money.

On a more serious note, no one should be donating money to get players to come (unless you're super baller and make like 100k+ a year).  Focus on getting yourself (and possibly your poorer US MB community members!) to Evo first and foremost!

Calm down, Spirit lol. It was a (horrible) typo. I was looking specifically at GO1's name (in "too poor" group) when I had donation thread in mind but for some reason typed "can't come".
