best character for a beginner?
« on: December 28, 2009, 09:48:25 PM »
Having introduced myself I'd like to get down to business now. lol. Can anyone recommend a character that a beginner can start with?

as well, can someone give a basic explanation of mechanics? How does one activate heat and bloodheat mode is the main question I have... and a list of controls on the ps2 version. Anything else that anyone feels would bebenefitial for a first-time player to know would be apreciated.

Hi there

Characters that might have some success with beginners are:
F-Ries, Tohno's, F-Kohaku, F-Miyako, H-Roa, and some others that I might be escaping my mind right now.

Heat is activated with A+B+C or 5E when you have 100 or more meter. Blood heat is activated when are in MAX and you do the same thing (ABC or 5E)

PS2 as follow on default.... probably:

[ ] : Weak attack (A)
X : Medium attack / Menu cancel (B)
O : Strong attack / Menu confirm (C)

∆ : Shield (D)

L1 : [ ] + ∆ Macro (AD)
L2 : [ ] + ∆ + O Macro (ABC)

R1 : Quick action (E)
R2 : [ ] + X Macro (AB)

Just check out the forums for anything else that you might want to know. Many things that a frist-time player could be found here and in mizuumi's wiki : http://mbaa.mizuumi.net/index.php/Main_Page

Have fun

Yea right, good luck with that one.
F-Miyako is not a beginner friendly character lol

Press buttons, receive damage. Probably the least intensive of the Miyako grooves as well.
However you can interpret F-Miyako's "skill requirements" as you will.

C Mech Hisui or F Nero might be good for budding beginners.  But I don't want any more Neros in this world anymore...

As an addendum to Curbeh's post...

First off, there are four states that relate to Heat and activating.
Normal- Anything in between 0% and 299% circuit (meter) for Crescent and Full moons.  Anything between 0% and 199% for Half moon.
MAX- Upon reaching a full bar of circuit (300% for C/F, 200% for H) you will enter into MAX.  This is a pseudo Heat.  You can use your Arc Drive (your super, performed by 41236c) and you can Circuit Spark by trying to activate (A+B+C or 5E) when you are in blockstun or hitstun (think of it like a GG burst) which will use all of your meter.  Time does not stop and health does not regenerate in this mode.  Half moon will automatically activate Heat as soon as you reach MAX.
Heat- This mode will stop time, give you health regeneration (as long as you are not in hitstun/blockstun), and allow the use of your Arc Drive.
Blood Heat- This mode will stop time, give you VERY fast (Crescent) or even instant (Full) health regen, and allow the use of your Advanced Arc Drive (just a better version of your normal AD).  This mode can only be activated if you are already in MAX (which means Half moon cannot activate Blood Heat).

Activating Heat is different depending on the moon style you're playing.  Blood Heat, however, has no difference in activation between the moons styles.
Crescent moon- You can activate heat anytime you are in a Normal state and have at least 100% circuit.
Full moon- You can only activate heat by utilizing the Initiative Heat (IH for short, otherwise referred to as a heat cancel).  IH can only be used in MAX, and you use it by activating heat during the active frames of any normal attack or some special attacks (dependent on character).  It resets you to a neutral state (much like a GG roman cancel), regenerates all red life, and puts you into Heat.  It goes without saying that IH allows for some amazing things.
Half moon- Heat activates automatically upon reaching MAX.  When in heat, you will automatically Circuit Spark at the first opportunity (usually the first attack that hits you will trigger a spark).

Thanks all. I'm planning to try out all the recomended characters and see which one I like... and hopefuly get to some sort of level where I can play in front of ther people withou being embarrased. lol. But that shouldn't be a problem since the MB scene in Vancouver isn't exactly big. At least not to my knowledge.

If you come from an sf background then F-Ciel is for you!

3 strong anti-airs (due to removal of abundant clashing frames, chars like Kohaku, miyako and ciel are 'special' in this case)
Strong 'footsie' (which is almost non-existent in mb)
Consistent knockdowns produced by low-flipper (236A) that reaches close to half screen and leads to extremely simple wakeup game
Solid dmg for moderate effort
Several hit-confirms that lead to good damage (it's 3rd strike, y'all)
Simple frame traps that don't involve 'reverse beat' (which is a somewhat difficult concept for beginners to pick up)
zar are you even aware that your attitude is what drove people off in the first place. i think zar's attitude is worse than all of that. cause neither of you guys mean anything. but zar can poison shit around him. zar's the one that gets personal online and does realtalk that's out of line.

Sion is difficultish, I don't know too much about Ryougi, V.Sion is fairly simple in crescent/half moon style, V.Akiha is a challenge, Aoko is among the hardest in the game to play.

It's like I'm really throwing Hadoukens!

I'd have to recommend F-Tohno for the sheer hilarity value. Fullmoon versions seem to be easier for newcomers to get into.

I don't know too much about Ryougi

Ryougi's not too hard to pick up. The basic combos are very easy. However, her more damaging combos take a bit of work to pull off.

There is no sure best character I think...

The best character for a beginner is the character the begginer find the coolest.

It would also be the best thing to do to choose one of the hardest ones, the harder the better: this will develop you a lot faster as a player.

After you master that char, you can choose those that fits your gamestyle well (you'll have to find out which character it is with time).

Thats my opinion :P
A little bit of console ain't too bad.
