Concerning Tournament Organizing / Evaluation
« on: February 16, 2009, 06:04:38 AM »
'Sup.

I am currenty planning and working on a browser-based tournament/league/ladder organizing system for Melty Blood or you can say a system for fighting games in general. Since there are just those for clans and first person shooters or real time strategy games supporting teams =/

Organizing and evaluating the results and maintain the tourney itself is a pain in the ass. It needs time and stresses out alot.
There can be some really useful stuff included. Like, automail participans of a tourney if something urgent happened or remind them at the day the tourney begins. Handling game results by clicking a few buttons. Results are stored and will generate automatic statistics and declare the winner/ranking at the end of the tourney.
And why not create brackets within a minute? Giving permanent awards to the winners of tournaments? Not to forget tournament logs like those in MBCaster. And what about a replay storage for every tournament?

Of course, these are all optional things because the main purpose for me to develop this is the work reduction for organizers and usability for the participans.

Those are the things that popped into my mind first. And that's why I am posting this. Are there things missing that are important? Do you have good ideas that would make it more comfortable and usable? I will appreciate them!

In games like gunbound, they would have tournaments in a diff way, they would set a date and a dead line, then who ever had the most points in that predetermined time would win, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Dunno if that gives you ideas.

That could be no prob in casterstats, but I meant a tournament organizing system with criterias, local tournaments, netplay tournaments etc.
But nice idea, actually.

I suspect if one could come up with an easier more streamlined way to initiate and run the whole thing, it would likely work much better as well as be more common.

But, that's just my view as an outsider, having never done a tournament yet.  =x
