Fighting Stick Help.
« on: October 06, 2008, 07:58:11 PM »
I need some major help with a question. I finally got Melty Blood on PC and I have been playing online and its lots of fun, But I just don't like the keyboard, or the controller. What hori stick should I buy that would be perfect for MBAC?

HRAP1 (no longer manufactured)
HRAP2 (uncertain)
HRAP3 ps3/pc only
HRAP2:SA (comes with sanwa buttons instead of HORI stock so you dont need to mod buttons)
HRAP3:SA ^ (ps3/pc only stick) (avail for pre-order)

HRAP1 is still being manufactured via amazon.co.jp color. If you have a hookup in Japan then you can get it.

Just because you can find them in stock does not mean they are still manufactured. Plus the player 2 button layout on a HRAP 1 is horrible.

Plain HRAP 2's are surprisingly hard to come by these days, though HRAP 2 SA's and 3's are plentiful and easy to grab off of ebay or in a specialty store.

Theres also the hrap 2 SE which comes with saimitsu instead of sanwa parts.  I'm not sure if theres also a hrap 3 SE version.

I wanted the hrap 2 SA but couldn't find it, so I just got a hrap 2 off ebay and got sanwa buttons seperately.  As long as you have the proper tools switching the buttons is easy.

The stock hori buttons(on non SA/SE versions) aren't that good and should be replaced if you get one.  I suggest sanwa, but saimitsu isn't bad.

So the only ones I could find on ebay were the HRAP 3's and the X360 ones. Is there a picture of what the HRAP 1's and the HRAP 2's looked like?

I never found the buttons bad, but maybe I just haven't used the good ones.  Building your own stick isn't too hard and is pretty cheap, shitty madcatz controllers that are somehow still working do well for this.   Just don't tear off the analogs going ohh well these are useless *bangs head against wall for stupidity.

So are the sanwa buttons better that the Hori buttons?

I guess I did underrate them in my post.  They aren't horrible, but after switching to sanwa I immediately noticed a difference.  It felt like all my moves lost a frame of startup.

All of them look generally the same. Also note there's a difference between a HORI FIGHTING STICK and a HORI REAL ARCADE PRO..

Here be an HRAP 2.
