Good evening fellas
« on: February 08, 2013, 04:44:23 PM »
Hey there.
I would like to introduce myself as a new competetive player in this adorable game series. I haven't played Melty Blood in a long time, but just recently (just a few minutes ago), my interest seemed to have sparked when someone mentioned the competetive scene this game has. When I began playing, I only played this game casually and enjoyed it for it's story-based charm (I love TYPE-MOON and have read Tsukihime).
Anyway, that pretty much sums up the reason for me wanting to join this place and learn more and get better. I've been playing Super Smash Bros Brawl competetively, so that might serve as some kind of base for better understanding of the theorical side of the game.

In Melty Blood I main Akiha and White Len (well, in Act Cadenza, anyway)

I have a few questions:

- Do you guys have a tier list for the games?
- What players do you recommend me to watch? In Smash, we tend to learn alot by watching videos of professional players.
- I never really played a traditional fighter competetively before...what are the basics I should have in mind?

So yeah, if you have read this, I thank you for sticking here through this whole text wall. 8P

For competitive Japanese play on youtube, any of the videos on these channels is good.

ZeroJapan
Clearlamp
GAMEacho
Kirisugu
MeltyBread
NagaruKamishiro

Teir List is pretty subjective. Chances are, if you pick a char, it's going to be tourney viable (B or A tier at least).
Off the top of my head what I would consider above average is:
Nero, VAkiha, Arc, Kohaku, and maybe Akiha.
This games balance is pretty godlike.

There are some real good Melty Blood basics videos that I will have to find links for later. But I'd be surprised if someone else doesn't link them before I do.

I believe Roku's video that Roy linked is a pretty good basics. EVen Curbeh's.

Yes, those are for Actress Again, but most of the things from AA can be carried over into AACC no problem or with some modifications.

And of course, welcome to Melty Bread and welcome to the scene (Insert scene size joke here).

Honestly, I recommend Xie's Beginner Mode. I know it's for BlazBlue, but a lot of it applies and he does a good job of explaining basic concepts in airdash fighters.

As for tiers, I'd definitely put Nero and Seifuku Akiha above the rest of the cast. You can do very well with pretty much any character, though. There's bad matchups here and there, but I'd put probably 80% of the cast in A tier.
