Keyboard >>>>> pad > stick btw.

Let me revise that.

Stick >> keyboard >>>>> pad

Its like consciously deciding to use a bottom tier character.

I sure hope you were fucking kidding. Also if it were for me I'd want everything on a cab hehe, but we don't have that leisure so stick/pad is whatever, as long as I don't have to hear about someone whining about their key got pressed accidentally.

I'd like to hear some logic on how a stick is better than a keyboard.  And don't say something that also says street fighter the movie the game is the best game ever because some random schmuck said so.

Actually, it IS a pain in the ass. Take this scenario for example:

Two keyboard users are going to battle each other, both of them just happen to have the -exact same- configuration, as that is what they are used to playing, what are you to do now?

Flip a coin to see who keeps it? What if there is only one keyboard(althought probably they would each have their own).

Are you going to be monitoring where they press every single key?

All of this is too much of a hassle, it's just way better to not allow them at all. Now, I am assuming you can configure keys for keyboard in MBACVerB, I remember you couldn't in MBR(I think), I am not so sure since I've never played on the keyboard, but still, that situation can show up, can't it?

I would say keyboards are a definite no.

No, you need to drop playing with a fucking keyboard and get on that pad / stick.
While we're discussing input devices and their viability, let's ban pads as well. They are eyesores and are equally annoying due to their so-called "incompatibility" with the one true ps2->usb adapter, the Pelican. We're playing a fucking fighting game here.

The day you enter SBO you'll be sorry.

Oh, and since we're in the restrictive mood, let's also ban any sticks other than HRAPs and good-looking custom sticks because all the other ones just plain suck.

On second thought, let's ban HRAP1's because their button layout hurts my hands and their color scheme isn't quite sexy enough.

Furthermore, let's forever disallow HRAPs with stock Hori buttons because they fucking suck more than pads.

See where I'm headed with the arbitrary BS and lukewarm reasoning?

I don't play on pad anymore.

And yeah I'm being restrictive.

You guys have already acknowledged that playing on a keyboard handicaps you, so drop that shit and pick up stick or pad.

Though after talking to Zaelar, I've agreed with him on the notion that keyboards could be allowed, but only when it's been proven that they can't control the other player, don't need software to do so, and can work default controls.

Good luck with that.

The biggest issue is 2 keyboard players against each other. It's impossible to get both of them to run the same 1P-style controls against each other. Too many problems.

/quote arlieth -- There are ways to do it.  Easiest would be just have a second keyboard with the keys rearanged.(I imagine thats the easiest anyway).  A switch that switches the keys from one to the other should also be possible.  I was thinking about gutting a keyboard and a ps2 controller and wiring a keyboard to the ps2 guts, which would then use a converter and work just like any custom controller as far as input is concerned.  Someone did this at evo, check the controller thread on srk.

/quote chibi -- They also need to be able to get to the correct character if 1p/2p side ever comes up.

Forcing the use of pelicans provided for the tournament is the most that would be needed; I can't think of any issues that would come up, just the rare controllers that lag with it and usb controllers.  Pelicans work for most things and the 1p/2p side isn't an issue as you can label the converters.

For no reason other than all of the complications they can cause, my vote would be no keyboards allowed. I have nothing against pads, especially after considering they were an intended controller for the ps2 version, have no compatibility issues, and will continue to be an intended controller if there are any future versions of console Melty Blood.

As far as all the theoretical "Don't use a keybaord in case you go to SBO" bullshit, shut up. I seriously doubt anyone on this forum will actually compete in anything further than qualifiers, and if you do manage to prove me wrong, than congratulations -- But I'm willing to bet you were using a stick as your primary control device already...

Yes, it is probably possible to have two keyboards with the same controls acting as two joysticks via some software out there, but it isn't worth the hassle. Sorry keyboard players, but if you want to compete in real life tournaments, you'd better learn pad/stick.

I think keyboards should be limited to the one that's plugged in though, no unplugging/replugging.  If it's a laptop, probably stuck using pad.
Yeah, an already plugged in keyboard shouldn't pose any problems, especially if the tournament sponsor makes sure it is one that allows inputs for more than five buttons.

That said, if you want to be really competitive, sticks or pads are the way to go. I used to play keyboard once, and it's a pain in the ass to do arc drives with it.

On a retarded note, as Q Chu once said, I would like to see someone play MBAC... WITH THE POWER GLOVE. >:D

The thing is, pad is pretty bad to some people (Including me) and not all of us can exactly afford a stick. Hell, that's the only reason why I haven't switched to stick yet, but Keyboard isn't that bad to use anyways. (Oh, and Arc Drives are pretty easy to pull off on one when you're used to it)

what about custom sticks that use keyboard encoders(something like this), im sure you could get it to be switchable from p1 and p2 sides aswell.

If you can plug it in to a pelican it's fine.

If you can plug it into usb and it works without anything being installed on the computer and you can't control the other player's character, it is probably fine.

Or anything involving a 12378 or 9.  It doesn't look like it has any up/down control.  If the wheel is tiltable for up/down or it came with a throttle...
