: MBAC Netplay Assistant 1.1 (handles hostnames!)
: Leviathean December 13, 2007, 08:25:55 PM
After playing a bit with all these netplay applications, I got a bit annoyed from looking up and typing IP addresses over and over.  Why can't I save these IPs into a database together with a name + comments, and then join a game at that IP automatically without having to type anything in?

So I made a small program to do just that.

Unzip the contents into your MBAC folder.  Run MBACNetplayAssistant.exe.

Enjoy your easier MBcaster experience.  :V

(If you find any bugs or stuff, post here and I'll try to get to them if I have time)

Doesn't this go in the netplay section? Players who have dynamic IPs kind of defeat the purpose of your program anyways. It'd be useful if your program could say... handle hostmasks.

I could be wrong, but doesn't Hamachi turn all of your IPs into dynamic ones?

IIRC Hamachi IPs are static but you have to be in the same network to interact with other users and their free networks only allow as many as 12 users connected at any given time (online or offline). Also Hamachi has the possibility of generating lag and delay.

most people have static ips usually, so great addition to have

Dynamic IP users could get free hostmask services as well such as DynDNS.org

Great attempt at a utility program though. Give the guy some credit. +HEAT  :teach:

I'm not sure if DNS resolution works with MBCaster though. CowCaster, it works for sure, I know this much.

MBCaster does not resolve hostnames.

Yeah MBCaster does not. Which is why I mentioned in my first reply that it would be useful if this program did.

Okay, with all the grumbling about hostnames and whatnot, I added the ability to resolve hostnames into my application.

In the field where you used to type in an IP, you can now also paste the hostname of that person there, and it will automatically resolve by the time it reaches mbcaster.  Yay!

The download link is still the same url, listed here again for efficiency.

Take it easy, it's just suggestions of how you can make your program better, it's not so much of grumbling.

Thanks.  :V
