o_O Epiphany: Wasn't a guard meter in the original Melty Blood? Then they removed it for Re-ACT... and now it's back?

...no, there was no guard meter ever. There was a Vital Source meter (I think that was the name...) but that handled more than just guards.

Indeed, it was called Vital Source. Though I still can't figure out what the hell it was for. >_>

I personally would not like a guard meter in MB...

I think it would work. Depends on the rate the meter would deplete. Although I don't think it will affect gameplay that much anyway.

I wonder if it has any gimmicks to it? Much like GGXX faultless defense?  They said MBAA would have more defensive options right?

From what I remember, its a guard+dizzy meter.

Blocking would diminish the meter, and if it depleted on a successful hit, you got dizzied.

If I remember correctly it also somewhat worked for stamina as well. Every time you did an attack it dropped or something. I'm not sure though.

Useless information:

There was an invisible guard meter in MB.  If you blocked enough attacks, your character would get a reddish tint and then get guard crushed and take 300% damage.

Vital Source when depleted made you dizzy, though not the traditional dizzy.  No air recovery whatsoever (though it's not like there wasn't more than enough stun anyway), longer hitstun on the ground, and possibly more stuff that I can't remember.

You could deplete Vital Source in several ways.  First and foremost, hitting the opponent did this very well.  Stuff like backdashing/dashing/airdashing decreased it, I think shielding did too.

I remember shielding depleting the meter really fast if you held it.

you couldn't hold shield pre-ac days

also iirc basically the vital meter also made your damage weaker(not sure if this is because of pro rate or not), you take more damage, and you can't tech at all

Lol, I've been wondering what the Vital Source was for in the original Melty Blood game. So overall I guess that actually acts as your stamina meter, though all the penalties it can give you can make you feel kind of restricted.
