In case you don't know what this is about, you may need to take a look at Zar's most recent post on the Hydra GP Tournament thread right here:

I like how no one mentioned

DISABLE THE FUCKING OPTION TO PAUSE DURING VS MODE
this is far too often overlooked in modern ports of fg's. I recall chibi mentioning to me though that the creators of skullgirls implemented a feature in their game that makes pausing mid-match highly unlikely (hold several buttons + start of 5f or so).

Aside from having to develop a GOD-LIKE training mode (which I hope ecole continues to try and build on [gl getting at vf4e status though]), I feel that having the option to switch between arcade and console balance should be considered as well.

As for business-minded suggestions, we should try to construct a "portfolio" of sorts demonstrating our dedication to the game and scene(s) (I *think* this is what komidol was getting at, guys =/).

This site, for one, can be presented to ecole staff along w/ other international sites of the same caliber or better (e.g. that brazilian[?] site cristu mentioned or if EU has stuff setup too). There's the facebook mb acct. as well, I believe (and twitter?). we also have bits of footage which will further display "our" devotion/loyalty/whatever to mb (theres the BBG stuff, evo footage, an mb interview on Rithli's youtube acct., various EU/latin american/S. American youtube and stream footage, the wiki pg, guides and tutorials, etc).
I mean, if they want a reason to even look our way, I feel that we have to put something together that's worth their time so they can shell out the bucks to help us get what we want (and of course what they want. CAPITALISTS BASTARDSSSS).

...but yeah. "It's time to wake up" or however the new meme/catchphase goes.

Anyway, I like what I'm hearing and I made this thread here to compile videos and what not of that old fashioned American Spirit. Its up to us the community to show the big people up at Ecole what we're all about, so I suggest you get posting with links or whatever you can to show our support of everything Melty Blood related.

Put in something  preferably with commentary and plenty of hype of course, they don't wanna see any old Actress Again match vid with Zar, the human Swiss army knife with an OS for every occassion. With that said, I make my move:

What Zar said, step on up you guys. Remember you don't have to be American to have that American spirit. American Melty is like a war and we've got to grab as much ammo as we can when we go in there, and when we go in.... we GO IN. So show em the hype, show em the support, show em what we can do.
: Re: MeltyBread Portfolio Thread
: Komidol September 12, 2011, 03:05:12 PM
So you guys want me to give this portfolio of sorts to the Ecole CEO at Hydra GP given the chance.

In that case, we'll need to fill out and organize all the matches trying to have the best combination of most hype(good announcing, fun sounding), prestigious(Tournament championships), and skill-based (high play level).  I think they should be separated into two sections, one for player environment and another for actual matches.  Beyond finding youtube videos, we should have 2-3 concrete points.  I think among them, the localization of the game should realistically be the goal since that will drastically increase the size of the community.  What we want is more players and more access to the game (so we can avoid the stigma of JP having a version ahead of us for too long, which in my time here, I felt was the biggest problem for the community).  What Ecole wants is to make money.  We need some middle ground here.

Someone mentioned to me Atlus ( the people who localized Arcana Heart 1 ) are still in business.  Maybe they would be interested in doing a port.  I don't think Aksys would want to do melty, but let's try and come up with a small list of companies who may want to localize the game for an English/International release.

Beyond that, other great suggestions should be posted here as well.  I would also like to include some pictures, like Kamina put out.

So to sum it up,

Let's have a "Player Environment" section aka HYPE.  (This section will include links to videos such as the Tournament reactions, player interviews, and compilation videos such as the NECX one).  Also included in this section is a bunch of pictures of people just playing melty.

We'll also have a section with a player registry (I have had that player compilation in the regional board for months, so we can definitely just steal all our names/played characters from that and submit a super compact version) and then put a bunch of player videos.  This section can also have an appendix of majors in the last 2-3 years and links to those tournaments top 8 and above.  This would also be a nice place for stuff like award ceremony pictures (we have a handful from EVO, but also, NEC and FR every year).

Furthermore this is all going to need to be organized, printed out, and compiled into Japanese and then checked by Dakanya or Curbeh.  I'll also need to prepare a short explanation with Korean CL.

It's basically up to he whoever wants to take the initiative to start going from links to pictures and videos into something tangible that can be translated by professionals and then all put into something I can print out.  I don't want a vanilla folder with a bunch of bad scaled pictures and youtube links with names that can't be read.  We want this to be something seriously considered.

I also want to mention all in all I can't guarantee this can get to the hands of the Ecole CEO personally, but I will do my damned best to try.  However, that shouldn't be a de-motivational reason to work on the project, because in the worst case scenario a final document can always be uploaded to the international relations group of Hydra GP, where it can be publicly displayed to the JP community.  So either way it will increase our exposure with the JP community, which at the very least, helps.

Well there are 3 dumb complications. Out of all the main meetups for AA that have ran, Frostbolt/Frozenwave's channel got deleted which had the footage from the latest (better) ones it, one that was streamed ShoMeYaMoves deleted the vids before we could reupload them elsewhere, and we had no capture device at the last one last year.

I have some random footage. Disclaimer - most of it is either day 1 or first time playing AA with real people. The level of play we had later on isn't anything amazing but it wasn't THIS sloppy at it's peak in 2011 and 2012 lol. If you dont want to throw in shitty play like this in there its cool.

Unfortunately, the biggest MBAA tourneys we've had in Europe were streamed but never actually recorded (nor grabbed off the stream while it was still available).
Irysa posted UK vids, I'll dig up some mainland footage. Most of this is really old stuff, and the level is play isn't very high. But hey, we play the game, and some of us are quite passionate about it, and really looking forward to AACC.

More to follow if I find anything cool.

These are just a couple highlight vids. Could post a lot more bad match recordings, but I don't really have anything hype like commentated matches or random community stuff.
Good luck guys! I'm not expecting a localized EU or US release of MBAACC, but anything that will increase the game's popularity in the west is a plus.

How many videos would we want in a portfolio like this?

I say people from each region start posting what they feel are the top 5 most hype vids from their respective areas (then we can further break this down into a concise list of videos for those ecole dudes to watch, (if they even do lolol)).

Added.

As majors I have:

Summer Jam 4&5
Final Round XIV
NECX
Winter Brawl 5
EVO 2010

And I have video for EVO, NECX and Summer Jam 4

Any majors I'm missing that happened over the course of the last year or so? Please provide rankings (at least top 4) and video if possible.

Edit: Also, all of you outside of the US. What events do you want them to know about? I don't know of any majors outside of the US.

Edit 2: In case anyone was wondering there's 127 players listed so far.

You can add people from my local area:

Oldboy (C-WLen)
Synyster Spirit (F-Akiha)
Cookie (H-Aoko)
Qpunch (C-Wara)

I'm assuming that you want the player list to... have more bulk.

we don't run events at "majors" in europe because they're all pretty much terrible and its easier to organize our own smaller meetups and venues. Anything we do ranges from like 5 to 20 people basically staying at somebody's house or at a venue for a weekend.

Honestly I think out of everything I linked the only thing that was tournament footage and not casuals from before or after was the Finland Oulu thing, other tourney footage as explained isn't available anymore.

I know, but I figured if he wanted better organized stuff then I don't know if you'd really want the other shitty causal sets and I removed some of the dumber stuff (interviews with drunk players)
: Re: MeltyBread Portfolio Thread

Thanks for the lists, I'll add them in about 2 hours.

For the general community section I'll include the EU stuff, a couple pics each from NECX, NECXI, and BBGXII, the NECX Hype vid, the 19v19, Biohazard, and Hal's drunk commentary. Anything specific things I should add? (Try to avoid gambling pics)

Edit: Remember people, I'm putting everyone down as one main for clarity. As of right now I'm just using whatever you list first.
: Re: MeltyBread Portfolio Thread
: Komidol September 16, 2011, 05:44:22 AM
Hype videos are good but lets try to keep dumb commentary away.  It's not like they can even understand it and I'm sure they wouldn't like any loud screaming into the mic.  Especially if it's drunk loud screaming.  Japanese generally don't like that.

Just saiyan.

Feel free to cut it out of the version you give them. I figure one or two would be fine if just to show the fun that we have with it. They both have gameplay to go with them anyway.

Here is the current list. Please provide a moon if there isn't one listed. Let me know if there are any duplicates or errors.

...just a teeny bit.

On another note: After watching the EU crowd footage all I could think about was "FFFFFFF -- I really wish we had someone who could throw together a sick compilation movie". Man, I got some sick ideas but lack the skills to bring them to fruition.

also a update about the forum design: dippy says hes gonna try to get on it asap but I dunno personally when it'll get done

so yeah one week left guys, lets get this shit organized. Livingshadow is obviously doing player compilation, who else would be willing to organize pictures and/or videos?

I haven't posted in a long time but I think this is a great idea. I don't have any videos really (I have some GFs of one tournament but there's no commentary) or anything else of much use, but I'd love to see this come to life.

Also, this is a HUGE maybe but in reply to Zar's desire to make a compilation video, there is a member of my BlazBlue community that is really awesome with PhotoShop and he's pretty good at video editing. I might be able to talk him into doing a compilation, especially if we could organize some kind of small donation for his work? This is if there's no one else up to the task, but I can guarantee he does quality work.

Will someone please make a chart of all the characters played in MB so we can get a full visual statistic of who America plays, since we have all the characters listed.

Because the chart would be pretty unreadable if you did it by moon, let's not include that.  Just each character.

I'll try at Excel. But everyone can finish before me

Edit: I made a "prototype" chart and sent to you via PM, Komidol

I feel this thread is derailing

...just a teeny bit.

On another note: After watching the EU crowd footage all I could think about was "FFFFFFF -- I really wish we had someone who could throw together a sick compilation movie". Man, I got some sick ideas but lack the skills to bring them to fruition.

I feel similar about the derailing bit.  Everyone should get vocal though, now. Anyway, maybe we should use a different list.  I mean, I'm sure Living Shadow's list was very comprehensive but do half of these people even play the game? (Kind've rhetorical, I know a good handful definitely don't)  I can't believe in a player list that has V-Akiha at the most played character.

(http://i.imgur.com/MOvL3.jpg) Let's cut the source material down a bit so we can have a more accurate representation of tournament play.  Basically, cut out players we haven't seen/heard from in over a year or so?  I think that's reasonable.

Also, as for the actual chart itself, maybe we can make it pie chart/percentage style instead since our numbers are abysmal and I think that would actually hurt us in the end (if it was presented)  Also, in the meltybread youtube profile page there is the Japanese listing for all the character names, so use those and put the English name on the side in paranthesis.  You can also rename the chart itself character usage statistics.

As far as projects are concerned, I'm sure we all wanted to do compilation videos or what not - but in truth, we had years to do that and we were just sleeping on it the whole time.  It's these sort of big project ideas we should continue to pursue after HydraGP is over to keep the scene fresh and alive for when Current Code comes out.  Then uploading good matches and tutorials from the start to get people interested and capable of playing the new game.  The wiki and a lot of tutorial vids were done really slow, and I think it hurt the scene overall not getting around to them until around Evo time.

Like week one of current code we definitely need a system mechanic video like the one Curbeh did.  But yes, derailing aside, let's keep what's possible into our hands.  Let's ask ourselves these questions;

Here's what I want to include in the portfolio:

A solid collection of at most a dozen videos with descriptions.  These videos should show some of the greatest matches of all time and be high quality.  They should also include "hype" vids, showing our scene at it's best.  Even though the gauntlet's at Team Sp00ky and BBGXII videos are some of my favorite matches, those were only recorded to stream and fairly low quality.  Not to mention one of those vids is like an hour and no CEO is going to waste his/her time.  We need to present a high quality video, a short line or two about why it's important, and why it's worth watching.  I would include at the very least Rithli's NECX video, which showed how dedicated our scene really was and how much we love the game.  It shows how many people are really willing to play.  I know when Ashe saw that video, he commented "American Melty is like a war!" and was really amazed.  Let's use videos that send the same signal to the Ecole CEO.  I think EVO Finals would also be important so we can note the big difference between American and Japanese level of play, as proved by a mirror match.  We could use this to explain how there are no game centers and a console release would help us.  Furthermore, we should include the Evo match with Kusanagi to prove the international exposure this tournament has gotten.  Maybe we could include a video like Zar's Option Select video so we can show that America does understand high-level play.  These sorts of things will be good to give them a well-rounded idea.

About 5 good pictures of Melty Blood players and game moments.  Feel free to start nominating pictures and making collages.  Fire up that photoshop, Chibi.

List of events this community has hosted, and explanation of what we've done to help the scene.  I'm sure if they know we carried a bunch of TV's into the center of NYC just to show off their game, they might see all sorts of potential, including advertising.  Maybe someone who has been to a lot of tournaments like Ehrik can help with this.

A list of potential companies to talk to about porting the game. Atlus is #1 on my list, you fighting game buffs should know a handful of others.  I know someone like Bellreisa has a lot of knowledge about the industry.

Character usage statistics and comments about the game.  This is where the high level analysis of what could make the game better.  Let's keep character buffs/nerfs out of this.  I'd like to leave to this pretty exclusively to Tonberry to come up with some intelligent overview, but the rest of us to cut down the usage list into something actually representative.

If you know a GODLIKE video editor who can take a lot of our better lower quality vids and turn it into something Rithli did by all means, but for now, let us focus on the humanely possible.  I want something tangible I can print out, in Japanese, and hand to the Ecole soft producer.  Which mean we're going to need to give Dakanya/Curbeh a lot of time (if they even really want to do it).  Essentially this means you only have a couple days at most to really get something presentable in English.  You will definitely not have until Friday to get everything together.  That's impossible for me, and anyone even remotely interested in getting the project to Ecole's hands.  Especially if me and Kamina in the end have to translate.

Who decides what gets into who's hands?  Well, since Kamina has not much to do this week, is the founder of the Hydra GP International Relations group, and one of the reasons me and LK had a place to start in meeting Japanese players - I think it should be him.  So GET AT HIM.  Since Evo he has been doing a lot of work.

I highlighted some people but if anyone can help 行け!行け!行けええええええええええええええええ!!!!, do work so Kamina can sort everything out ASAP.

The problem with analysis of what can be done to make the game better is that we're two versions behind.  I can only play theory fighter with respects to CC and there is no way they are going to use console as the base, which makes what we say somewhat meaningless.  The only things I could really ask for are "Give Warakia crazy things the way you did with everyone else.  Give me a reason to play H-Wara.  Make F-Wara 2b(1) 2[c] loop practical after 6c 623c" and those fall under asking for buffs, which you said you don't want.

What's the point of this analysis if it isn't for justifying buffs/nerfs?  Why do we even need it if we're just doing this to show them that we exist?
: Re: MeltyBread Portfolio Thread

I can give a suggestion for getting a different player list. Have an admin tell you: of the ~3187 members on this site, how many accounts have been 'active' in the past year/ the past 6 months/the past month.
Active means logged in at minimum. You wont get chars or anything. And if they're 'active' we can just assume they are interested in the game, and a potential market for them to sell to.
Might solve your numbers problem, or make it worse. A pie chart with percentages is just, misleading and not useful for them.
Not sure how they make decisions, but from a small list of tournament turnouts you can prolly predict how many copies in general you can expect to sell. (Assuming some kind of relationship between the number of tournament going players and the number of copies sold).
Just a suggestion. Feel free to ignore.

Maybe they really have no idea that we even exist? They literally had no idea anyone would play the game outside of Japan prior to Evolution 2010; their initial response to MrWizard's request for sponsorship was one of confusion and befuddlement.

I think Komidol doesn't want Ecole/Frenchbread to get the idea we're stupid and/or clueless about what we're talking about, which could potentially happen if stupid buffs/nerfs get requested.
: Re: MeltyBread Portfolio Thread

I think Komidol doesn't want Ecole/Frenchbread to get the idea we're stupid and/or clueless about what we're talking about, which could potentially happen if stupid buffs/nerfs get requested.

That's a part of it but my primary line of thinking behind it was this:

Someone said in a round table meeting at Ecole that "Don't you think it would be fun if there was a way to combo off raw airthrow?  That would be something that would give all the players something new to learn, give a lot of characters more to work with, and change the dynamics of the game a bit to make it more fun."

I was thinking those sort of engine changes might be considered or features we would like to see added, this is a chance to have it brought up at that meeting.  This is a real chance to make a serious change in the game!

Maybe they really have no idea that we even exist? They literally had no idea anyone would play the game outside of Japan prior to Evolution 2010; their initial response to MrWizard's request for sponsorship was one of confusion and befuddlement.

And Evo aside we're still pretty sure they're ignorant to an untapped market.  That's why we're doing this!

EVO was a high point, but we want them to know we've been doing this for years!  It's also a real shot at localization consideration to grow the scene.  Let's all pull this together, if you have any work bring it out now, in the next day or so.

I agree with this, I'm trying to keep my data as simple as possible. I personally am going to be leaving the graphs other data out of my version and use the player registry as a sort of signature.

As for numbers, I have the number of entries for each of the tournaments I listed. NECXI got 51 entries.

I remember when Japanese player teruta came to UK for a few years he uploaded a bunch of our matches onto nico, they're on this mylist (http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/13200649) and are all terrible.  UK is gonna pick up this game pretty big hopefully, we're planning a big launch event sometime in january-februaryish and we're gonna push to have the game at Hypespotting in March and maybe SVB in the summer. We have a bunch of assorted materials from our scene but none of them are really anything approaching professional quality to have in a portfolio, really.

SO uh what are these banners for anyways

also what do we need last for the portfolio?

The portfolio is already done and being translated.

Curbeh definitely wasn't kidding when he said he needed it by the next day!

Anything after that time isn't being used in the portfolio, me and Kamina compiled a report of the materials to the best of our ability for Curbeh to translate (and unfortunately due to time constraints, some editing as well - so you should all thank him!).  I don't mean this directly to Ehrik, but to everyone.  We all need to work to get things moving forward.  We didn't really get many helpful things out of the 1-1 1/2 weeks, and Kamina took a day off just to complete it.  I really want to see this community work it's hardest to move projects forward in the future outside of a few select people.

For now, the site will be mentioned and included in the portfolio, so I think the thread is (hopefully) being used as a graphic design playground for the new forum layout and graphical possibilities.   Thank you to everyone who is helping Chibi with that.  I really hope we can get a new skin up by tomorrow, or the latest, the next day.

That being said, in the end me and Kamina decided on a timeline of our major tournaments.  We included a couple high quality-high skill level-high hype level footage of each tournament, a description of what it meant to the community, the dates, the names of the top 3 winners, and the significance it had to the community.  We also included a graphical representation of all our tournaments from the tournament and events board since BBGXI.  From there we left a brief message about potential localization options, the strength of the community, and just a hope and aspiration for them to consider us in future potential business decisions.  We tried to find a good balance between not making it tl;dr (for Curbeh's sake as well) and media footage/pictures to make it something he wouldn't just drop on his desk and never look at again.

I also sent him a message saying that I wish to present it to him with Korean CL (who will want to talk about the Korean scene).  Hopefully he'll spare us 5 minutes of his time.

Thank you to everyone who helped us with the project thus far!  I'm hoping we can get more people (especially people really familiar with the scene and the game) to work even harder in the future though.  I think this project could of gone a bit better, it was pretty heavy work end for some people by scores and miles.

I hope that the info that I dug up regarding tournaments helped out.

I think the graphical stuff they've been working on has been sig related. Not quite sure. If all else fails, I'll see what graphics I can produce. But you guys will have to deal with my preferences on style.

Yeah, that text looks awesome. Or at least it would if were some sort of runic magic circle text. Way too hard to read for non-black people.

Fix'd.

I are disappoint at you too Malik. It's Melting Bread Since 2003.

HONESTLY my first assumption was "Meating Bread Since 2003" which was why I asked because there is no way in HELL that it could have possibly said that  :laffo:

I was thinking these could be used as a custom header for our site that updates every time you refresh, kinda like what Homingcancel does.

Either that or headers for character specific threads.

It's actually a fucking terrible stroke of luck that Rithli took down his NECX video night before Hydra GP.  That was like our best card, by far.

If anyone saved it please post it in the next 7 hours.  Both as a downloadable and up to youtube.

Your best bet is to contact Rithli and see if he still has a copy of it. Judging by what I've just researched it's possible for him to recover it off of Youtube if he wants to but only he as the account owner can do it.

Final color prints on high quality paper and binding were expensive at 1700 yen.  Anyone who wants to throw me 1$ via Paypal, much obliged -> KireiKotomine@gmail.com

After Mikado I had dinner with Hare and CL.  We talked a lot about the game, what a PC port would mean, and what direction the community wants to influence the game.  CL is very much onboard with what the a PC port means to the tournament scene.  How people come to tournaments and don't know how to use sticks, what netplay would mean, and various other effects.  His Japanese is pretty good.  The three of use will approach the CEO in...a few hours.

Here's some pictures of the final report:

Talking about Mikado, any results about the "Pre-HydraGP" 2 on 2?
