The perfect controller gives fast access to every input available.  Regardless of this, a player is best off with whatever controller they are most familiar with within certain limits.  An extreme example is if a DDR player decides to pick up fighters they aren't going to be doing their best by playing on a DDR pad.  As long as you are executing everything you want reliably, then your choice of controller is fine.

Actually, playing MBAC on a DDR pad does not sound too bad theoratically... it could potentially be a new and innovative way of playing the game?

PLUS A GREAT WAY TO BURN CALORIES!!!!!!!

Using a pad right now but very seriously considering getting a stick. Pads give blisters and swollen wrists, :'( vastly reducing effective practice time.

As for which is better consider playing an FPS between a pad and mouse and keyboard. I will admit there are some pretty badass Halo players (one of my friends is obsessed with Halo 2) however a mouse and keyboard setup provides quite a few more advantages and at a high level of competition this definitely comes into play. The same is true about pads and sticks, although the point at which the advantages start to make a difference won't come up with 90% of players as there isn't a huge advantage with a stick.

At least thats how I see it.
Holy shit, it's a flying baby!

Pad. I haven't played many arcade games and I never leave my house have been a console gamer for the longest time.

It's all about personal preference. I'll get around to trying MB with a stick eventually.

Good luck playing a 1337 Satsuki or VAkiha without a stick  :P
I can do Satsuki's combo motions perfectly with pad and still fail horribly due to the fact that only using your thumb sucks for fighting games.
It's a whole different story on my VSHG. Fingers FTW!

Seconded. Why limit yourself to just one thumb when you can use all of your fingers? As an example, I find it much easier to do Kohaku's BNB with 5c(one hit) 5B j.c B etc. on an arcade stick as opposed to pad, where I have to be satisfied with the inferior 5c(all hits) j.c B.
At a time like this... I WISH I HAD A DIGITAL CAMERA!

The more beautiful and pure a thing is... the more satisfying it is to corrupt, isn't it?

Don't have an arcade around here. Never got used to stick. I play pad for now. Might transition eventually, if I decide it's worth the money.

General consensus says anything > keyboard. I say use whatever.
Playing: Arc, Kouma

American Tierlist:
Top: players just play the fucking game instead of asking for tiers. Low: players ask for tiers.

After playing stick for a month or two now it's become alot more comfortable. Certain things on pad just because troublesome, even though my movement was better on a pad. Still, loving stick now, and wouldn't go back.

;p

The new 360 Guitar Hero controller has a D-pad on it.
I'm thinking about playing Melty on that.

Epic.

I used to use keyboard until I got the hang of my pad.  My thumbs do not forgive me, however.

Hey guys, I've been looking for a stable but inexpensive stick to last me a PS2 converter.

I've been looking for the Hori Fighting stick 2s without any luck, and the CD Japan FightStick for PS3 doesn't look to be PS2 compatible.

If you can find me something online for <50$ or around that price range, I'd really appreciate it. PS2 pad... used it in the past, never again. However, I can't get a Real Arcade Pro or the Fight Stick Pro (> 90$)

I was in your same situation when I got my stick. I paid attention to eBay for 1.5 weeks or so until I managed to score a Tekken 5 collectors edition set in new condition (including game) for $40+$10 shipping. I need to sell the game still, I'm going to sell the game to my friend for $10 next time I see him.

Pros of the stick: Pretty solid, large (i prefer it that way), heavy enough to not move around.
Cons: Not easy to mod/replace parts if anything goes wrong. Buttons are hori ones of medium quality. As long as you don't abuse it, they *should* last a long time though.

I used to use keyboard( i can only play nice with Wara with the keyboard) but the controls get all mixed up, i mean the inputs, f.e: with wara i do 2.C > 2.B > 2.CC > 'launcher' but in the keyboard most of the times i do 236.C cause the input time is much acurate and faster : |. The same thing with the game-pad it works but im not fast enough with the input and the combo doesnt conect, lack of practice imo  :slowpoke: Anyway i got used to game-pad, with the practice the input became faster but i still cant play right with Wara with game-pad lol  :mystery: Sooo...lol...currently i play and prefer gamepad, no more finger pain ;p
