Okay guys, so we've got a certain amount of time before the full version of current code is out.
Theres been complaints here and there about what the demo had to offer, so why not make a list of those issues that need to be fixed? Frenchbread is following us ever since the whole Hydra GP tournament, so they don't mind hearing some American feedback. If you have a reasonable issue with the demo, things to be changed added or whatever, post it in here. We can probably get someone to translate it all and sent it straight to the anime fat cats via twitter. If we don't speak up now ol' St.Manabe and his anime elves probably won't be going in the right direction with the game to make it more gdlk than it was before. So there you have it American Melty Blood Community, get to work and do it fast, compile those lab notes and put it in this thread.

For some reason when I place my cursor over Nanaya Shiki and then press the A button, the game doesnt seem to respond to my request and looks as if it does nothing.I have tried multiple combination of buttons. The B button seems like the only button that responds, but that would only take me back to the previous screen.
Ive tried all the combinations of A and C.Ive tried plinking C and A.I've tried even piano-ing,but it doesnt seem to work.Alas I've come to the conclusion it was indeed a programming error on french bread's part and thus I thank you for this thread, because through this I can send the message to French Bread so they can fix it as quickly as possible.

PS:The slowdowns, fix them! Other than that I've had a positive experience with the demo.

I think it would be a good idea to have configurable buttons ingame. Also, keyboard support.

Yeah I agree.  Button configuration should also be available in-game as well.

And make the button configuration available at the character select screen.

And put Status Display back in

: Re: The 12 Days of Current Code Wishlist:Letters to FrenchBread & Ecole
: ehrik December 19, 2011, 08:06:28 PM
the only resonable suggestion so far has been greg's

@Charby: There is a once again button, check your demo

@button config: frenchbread said they already too far along to add that in (?) or something along those lines. Pretty sure fiendmaw already directly asked them this before several months ago

They probably won't do keyboard support, but don't worry; Mauve has already made a tool for it.

edit: I just wanted to ask them to consider doing a downloadable game + cd key online purchase thing...they would get a lot of customers like that imo.

also i want match replays, unless thats going to be available already.

: AARP|ZTB December 19, 2011, 08:23:02 PM
Being a training mode monster, I feel the following should be considered:

Status Display
As Ghreg mentioned earlier, bring this back please. Despite its overall encrypted color coding display, on a base level it was simple to understand and revealed tons of info on normals, specials, ex's, jumps, shields and just about anything that involved a character moving on the screen. This was an excellent complement to frame data imo.

Unlimited Guard Meter
Also mention by Ghreg, run it back. This issue is more of a pet peeve than anything else really. It really just makes working w/ extended guard strings a bit less annoying. Having to reset the meters by forcing guard break becomes irritating after a while. Add in unlimited guard so we can press more buttons w/o interruptions.

More Jump Options
Include a jump forward and jump back option in addition to vertical jump (with pauses in between jumps!). Maybe even add in super jump 8 and super jump 9 as well. An option such as this would make testing for situations like air-to-air attacks or ground-to-air attacks easier to work with.

Jump From Hit/Gurad
As seen in KOF13. Have dummy jump in a direction after recovering (fully) from a hit or guard. Good way to test string viability and to check for frame advantage. Sure there are other methods to check for the former but having alternative testing methods doesnt hurt

Delayed Random Air Recovery
Have dummy air recover at random heights and in random directions when hit out of the air rather than teching always on the first possible frame.

Downed Recovery Random +plus
Have dummy randomly tech only after receiving damage from the FIRST otg string. Eg Aoko does throw>dummy will not tech>aoko connects first otg string>dummy randomly techs in random direction when string ends.

Recover Special
Just as you have Recover A, B, and C (coupled w/ state you can get jumping and crouching attacks as well), including an option to have dummy recover w/ command normals, BE normals and specials would prove useful.

Screen Position Reset
As seen in UMVC3. Screen resets meters and position on screen can be determined w/ reset + additional inputs (eg in left corner, in right corner)

Kamone Option
Have dummy guard FIRST attack high only then immediately crouch guard only. This obviously helps to test for fuzzy guard setups and to practice consistency w/ the followups when landing them . Would be much easier than doing a dummy recording and trying to synch up w/ the counter to emulate this imo.

Bunker Point (excessive)
Have dummy bunker at random points (w/o fail) during a guard string

Heat Option (excessive)
Have dummy (randomly) recover w/ reversal heat when standing from a down.

Input Display for Replays
Not related to training but it's nice to know what players are mashing on playbacks of replay recordings. Also helps to know where you may have messed up an input during your own matches.

More Jump Options

I don't want to scroll through that many more additional options  :toot:

Recover Special
Just as you have Recover A, B, and C (coupled w/ state you can get jumping and crouching attacks as well), including an option to have dummy recover w/ command normals, BE normals and specials would prove useful.

Again, I really don't want to scroll through that many options :toot:.  It'd honestly be easier imo to just set dummy to do something and try to deal with it then scroll through every BE, 236, 623, 22, for A/B/C versions to get the one you want.

RIDICULOUSLY IMPORTANT!  Please, please include this option.

That was made assuming the developers even cared enough to do their job, which i thought they might after ten years of working on this game. Of course i was proven wrong.

My statement still stands though. With consoles; most of the bad shit I'm getting from this demo would be mandatory. At least with a PC version someone can fix it. I also made that post after hearing Mauve would make a caster for it. If that doesn't happen then i'll just stick with emulator netplay.

"Magical Kohaku Prision" -> Kohaku's Magical Prision
Prison, rather.

I agree they should fix up their names. At the very least fix Arcs' name.
: Re: The 12 Days of Current Code Wishlist:Letters to FrenchBread & Ecole
: BurstOfAnger December 20, 2011, 01:10:08 AM
Arc's name has no issue. It's just the Japanese way of naming foreign names, the '=' is to show that the family name is last, as in Japanese, it's first. They'd fix it if they'd start seriously marketing it to the west I guess.

I agree with a lobby system. I don't want to be randomly matchmake'd into a game with someone a thousand miles from me and having to face lagg.

It's the standard everywhere with a direct connect option. I'm quite thankful we have that option. With out it, we'd have to use the matchmaking option. :gonk:

Just dropping by to mention something I thought of while fooling around with a friend.

-VS needs room creation (to play with a set group of friends), which ought to include spectating for everyone.
-As mentioned earlier, maybe have a global lobby (or multiple regional lobbies??) that include ping ratings for other users in order to improve upon matchmaking

-lower priority, but it may be a good idea to fix the English spellings of the characters' names.  Stuff like Powerd -> Powered, etc.  Yumiduka -> Yumizika is arguable.  Arcueid=Brunestud can stay for all I care.

I just have to ask this: What if you didn't have a PS3, they released this game for that system, and your PC was good enough to play the PC version instead? You would have to pay about $200 anyways to get a gaming console just for "A GAME".

IMO, a computer is more important than a gaming system in the first place, so people would be more likely to have that than a PS3 or Xbox360.

Unfortunately for me, my computers can't play the game at all, nor do I have a PS3/Xbox 360. With the rise in technology, however, I probably WILL have a good enough PC later on. Problems are much easier to fix on a PC than a gaming system, anyways, so any future console releases would only be advantageous to you.

Anyways, to stay on topic in my first post  :D :

The name fixes and infinite guard meter don't sound unreasonable. I'm also hoping for Match Replays, perhaps even while spectating.
Also, Mauve.

: LivingShadow December 20, 2011, 08:12:37 AM
Well, first I'll start with the good.

Training mode has improved quite a bit. We can now replay on recovery and hold multiple recordings. Status would be a good addition, but it would have to be more helpful than what was in MBAA PS2.

No real issues with the gameplay on my end, but then again I literally just bought this laptop.

The only thing I could see that would need improvement would be the online mode. But I think they're still working on that.

Yeah, I'm hoping for this too.... it's not that hard to make a downloadable game. Plus, there's little risk for the company when they make a game downloadable (no money spent on shipping or packaging).

I'm loving the game and don't need any big changes.

However the most important thing they could do is to some kind of digital distribution. It would be amazing to have Melty on Steam, I would get multiple copies if the price was reasonable and get my friends to play it too.

I may be the only one who actually full screens this game once in a while, so I'm not sure if this is an issue only affecting me, but screen tearing needs to be fixed.  It's odd however, because the game seems to be taking the steps to avoid this, such as limiting frames per second, reading my monitor's refresh rate...

I've found that screen tearing is observable in many arcade match videos as well.

netplay: knowing the ping would be nice

Perhaps going: start>run>cmd>ping 'the host's/client's IP', is good enough?

Did you guys know that in direct connect mode, the person hosting, after starting the host side, has his IP and port copied to the clipboard? So he can just ctrl V it into text? Or that the client side can use the connect from clipboard option? Meaning the client can select the host's IP and port that they pasted into text, hit ctrl C, and simply connect from clipboard. Typing IPs? Pshhhhh! Who needs a lobby system? IRC, ctrl V, ctrl C, done. Hell if you remember someone's IP you can connect from history! Fucking sweet!

If you're having trouble with port forwarding, and you really want to host, simply bypass your router by unplugging the Internet/WAN cable from your router and plug that cable directly into your PC. Then plug it back into your router's Internet/WAN port when you're done playing Melty for the day, or someone else needs to use the internet.

"Please make your netplay work properly so people stop looking at me to be some sort of savior I'm not interested in being"

I mean were we all really expecting them to release PSN style netplay with the matchmaking option? On their 1st time making netcode? With regional lobbies? For a Japanese only release? Was anyone really expecting them to put up the server boxes to support that type of network? They'd have to have the servers physically in the regions they'd support, have offices and staff to support them, ect. Who honestly thought that they would have more than one server running the matchmaking, and thought that server would be anywhere but Japan?

I don't think they made this netplay for anyone but the Japanese. They were however, good enough to give everyone else the option to direct connect. I honestly was not even expecting that. I was hoping they would, and am thankful for it's existence. It is at a minimum, better than the matchmaking option for everyone outside of Japan.

Seriously, I'm complaining about the complaints in the complaints thread for our BRAN NEW GAME! Half of the complaints are not actual problems, most of the rest are asinine complaints about the matchmaking service that is not even meant for people outside of Japan. How about more complaints about the direct connect option? How can they possibly make it more kick ass than ctrl V, ctrl C? Maybe if it chewed bubble gum too...

2v2 tag battle and team battle.

In training have some way to have the dummy play a random recording from a set.  Basic example of usefulness is set the dummy to jump in with an attack then land and go low, set the dummy to whiff the jump in and go low, set the dummy to jump in with an attack and do a second overhead of some kind.  Then try to block as long as you can.

just my 2¢:
  • The usual A+B macro for 1-button dashing.
  • Two additional buttons (fn1 & fn2) just for menu navigation is an overkill. We would be better off without them.
FN1 and FN2 aren't used for menu navigation.  They have their purpose in training mode for swapping manual control to your dummy and resetting positions.

The two button settings under Start:
Confirm [決定]
Cancel [キャンセル]
can be set to any of your keys, used or unused.

Check your bindings.

Perhaps going: start>run>cmd>ping 'the host's/client's IP', is good enough?
It's not good enough because it takes too much time, especially if you're the host, and the fact that ICMP traffic may be filtered by firewalls

A hitbox display. After using them for so long its just a part of my training ritual to have a complete training mode experience. Sorry if I'm spoiled by them but I need them  :laffo:.

If it's any consolation, framedisplay will be updated eventually.

When it lags in netplay, it tries to devour your video card, aka it takes all the resources it can from it. Why does this happen holy shit

Some sort of disconnect option
Thankfully for the most part the game automatically detects when you're SOL in terms of connection and will disconnect for you, but I've been in situations where at the character select screen I REALLY wanna get the hell outta there as the match already looks pointless at that point.

And of course in game key-rebind tool if possible.

So I'm wondering. . .when exactly will these requests be translated and shipped out to the fatcats? We have but, what, 9 Days left?

A toggle to automatically save replays of vs matches(both local and online) with timestamps, similar to MBCaster's original function.  Makes running tourneys easier because people won't accidentally forget to save their replays and means if you can't afford a streaming setup then you can upload a local tourney's footage to youtube later more easily.

A guard damage display in training mode so people have a standard for how much guard bar something does in a more precise way.

I also second the request for a ping display.

Steam release.

That would be nice. OK, I understand, anti-piracy, supporting developers, etc. - fine.  But don't make me pay additional cost like shipping fees, VAT, customs and God knows what more just to get a few alphanumeric characters called "key".
Not to mention I don't own blu-ray drive, so I will have to obtain it via "some other" method. I belive there are other people with similar "issue".

You don't need a blu ray drive for the game lol

Everyone else has tapped everything I might care about except one thing: Borderless fullscreen mode - This would eliminate streaming problems I'm pretty sure. Borderless 800x600 is probably best for tournaments.

Let me buy the game via some kind of direct download option! Shipping shit from Japan is retarded-ass expensive and forces me to deal with the horrific evil of UK customs. Just put a download option on their site for like 4500 yen and I would be all over that shit.

Seconded. Also, fix the netplay; it is randomly discriminating against people for no apparent reason.
