The Extra button...
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:25:08 PM »
Hello, I am new here ^^ also to melty Blood. I was wondering... I play ciel and Len / WLen, and I ALWAYS had a hard time throwing while in the air cause im a massive spas :psyduck: but i was setting up my new controller and i realized i had an extra button, so i bound it to a+d, so now when i need to throw i just hit forward and that button, and its amazingl easier. I just wanted to know, is this cheating? Should I actually hit a+d or is this ok to do? ^^; :mystery:

also hello everyone!!! :D nice to meet you all!!! ;D

Moved to Melty Blood Auditorium.

Please properly introduce yourself in the Introductory Thread.

Mapping A+D isn't cheating at all. If you can help it, try adjusting to the quick action button instead. It works almost the same as mapping A+D but you also have access to heat activation and dodge depending on whether your pad is in the neutral or down positions respectively.

Also, welcome to the boards.

Yeah, Quick Action is better to use. 6Q is a throw, 2Q is a dodge, and 5Q is Heat activation. If you're wondering about what I mean by the numbers, look at the numpad. 5 is not pressing anything.

I used to map the A+D macro to the controller, but then I adjusted to quick action. Which, to be honest, isn't really hard.

I wouldn't consider it cheating, but it's unnecessary.

Every keyboard player has this "extra keys", too; the one Draku mentioned and the Ex-Shield key, so it's not cheating at all, it's very comfortable, I can imagine how hard it would be to press A+D in the air with a gamepad.

The standard input config on keyboard is

J K
N M , .

and means

E F (extra keys)
A B C D

Hmmm. Depending on the keyboard, some combinations are HELL to perform. Some people can't enter Blood Heat while covering, and that is kinda irritating sometimes.

And the diagonal + anything combinations were impossible in my older keyboard. That were the lols.

Oh, and hi everyone.

Yeah, older keyboards didn't allow multiple keys hit at the same time. This was hell. Even my newest keyboard only supports 4 Buttons pressed the same time. It's impossible to play with 2 player at the same keyboard.

Hi there.

I use the A+D macro on my 8-button joystick. I use the right 6 buttons except to the bottom left of those i have a thumb-flick throw macro. I just like it more that way. Given a couple minutes, I can adjust to quick action just fine though.
