The MBAC machines in US
« on: December 02, 2007, 12:36:35 PM »
I wish to know how the MBAC machines are in US, specifically the stick.

Do the sticks have a square or circle base? As in, if you were to turn it 360 degrees,
does it turn smoothly in a circle or have corners?

I'm trying to buy HRAP3, but the only thing that I do not like about it is the square base
rather than a circle base (and the price :P), so I want to know what stick US machines have.

Thanks.

P.S. What sticks do you guys use?

Most, if not all, of the machines on the west coast have a circle gate using bat-top HAPP sticks. However the scene prefers to play on their own sticks using the PC version. Sanwa (Japanese) sticks with ball-tops and square gates. I personally prefer the square gate. If you wanna rock Tougeki, Japanese arcade standard is the way to go.

Thnx for the response.

So other than difference in feel, are there any gameplay issues with square gates?
It's just that in all places they say that square gates are great for 3D games, but not
for 2D games that require lots of quarter circle and half circle movements like MBAC.
The major concern for me using square gates is if I will mess up on correct directional
movements such as accidentally doing up diagnal rather than straight up as their are
no curves to tell me where my stick is at.

Do Japanese machines use square gates or circle gates?

... wow sorry for the endless questions.

Japanese machines use square gates. You don't get curves, but you feel like a click when ever you hit a diagonal. Personally, I prefer square gates to circle gates... by a lot. I know for sure whenever I'm hitting a diagonal on a square gate.

It should be noted that the restrictor plate in the HRAP3 can be switched out fairly easily if you end up hating the the square gate.

Yeah I agree completely, I love knowing when I have hit the diagonal-- also the clicking gives me an erection.

The actual stick used by japanese arcades (most of the time) is the sanwa JLF.

Some arcades may also have a few cabs using the seimitsu ls-32 which is a stick I actually prefer for melty blood.

Other options include the overpriced but high quality sanwa flash, and the korean balltops.

That's what our cabinet used. Though I'm not sure if they kept the same sticks, when the moved it to a diff arcade. I don't know much about sticks, but I love this one. Definitely going to use this stick when I make a custom one.
