The tournament rules on the MBAA page for EVO 2010 are still TBA.

http://evo2k.com/?p=22

My friends and I have been discussing which game setting will be the standard for this tournament--original (console) or arcade.

Since the game will definitely be played on console, I would assume the original version will be used; however, I've heard rumors that many Japanese players will be competing in this tournament and arcade settings may be used to satisfy these players.

Does anyone know which version will be used at EVO this year?

Including myself, there are probably many more players who are barely learning this game in a mad dash to develop their skills before July.  Perhaps, the differences between the two versions are not significant enough to derail all the hard work put in before the rules are officially announced.  Still, confidence and peace of mind would be very helpful.

Thank you.

I believe it's generally agreed on that Archetype is banned.

I don't see why Arcade would be used. I would definitely not enter this tournament if it "catered" to japanese players. There's no reason to. They have consoles too.

Original mode is pretty damn close to MB:AA:CC it seems like, unless you're playing Ryougi or S.Akiha. There is no real reason to not run the tournament in Original.

Archtype:Earth will be banned or things are going to get stupid.

The guys running Evo are not dumb and the game is gonna be run in original mode, its dumb to think the Japanese don't have consoles. And of course banning Arc Earth will be done since its pretty much universal across the board.

Most tournie vids I've seen from the JP end are from the arcade version. (H-Hisui & her stools out for an eternity).  If the game were to be arcade only, I can see how ppl here (US) would be upset without Ryougi, S-Akiha, or Koha-MechHisui.

I personally wouldn't mind either way, though I'd like to know which mode as soon as possible so i can practice accordingly.  There are little nuisances between these 2 versions after all.

I'm happy that JP players want to come to Evo, but what everyone must understand, is that Evo is our (the U.S.'s) tournament. Therefore, the tournament should be conducted using our rules. The ruleset should not have to cater to foreign players especially if they have the means to practice (in this case, PS2). Hell, Evo is already an open tournament, that's already "catering" enough.

Original mode, that's what CC is based on, and it will be out in Japan by then, even if that wasn't the fact tough shit, they had to deal with console ver last evo for sf4.

Exactly whatever the case may be we are more console oriented here in the states and EVO is run here in the states as well so no matter what we are running console. If the Japanese are going to come fine but they gotta deal with our rules and what not. If not the airport is right there they can take another flight back home.

 Blahblahblah
EVO should and will be using the PS2 version of MBAA. This is what EVO is now, a console tournament, the Japanese themselves understand this as well. Even though they generally do not play the console version of fighters, CC should be out before EVO anyway. And the PS2 version and CC would practically be the same thing besides changes here and there.

Pretty much.  There's really no reason to use an "arcade only" rule list, banning AE is one thing, but falling to an arcade only banlist would seriously ruin a lot of Ryougi players' day.
