When's Melty on Steam?
ahaha that's no--wait, what?

So, since I looked around and couldn't find anything talking about it, apparently Mauve's Caster is all the craze these days.

Anyone care to fill me in on how it is or is not different from Tropsy's Caster?  Besides the lovely feature of remembering your last menu choices.

Well, basically, mauve is implementing features from Cowcaster, his own mod of IaMP's Caster. Those features happen to kick ass. The only big things that I know aren't implemented yet are player naming (so you can have replays with the players' names in them when using auto-save) and custom palettes (which I doubt he'll even work on since MBAC has so many palettes anyway).

You can find my MBCaster here. (http://mauve.sandwich.net/MBCaster.html)

The main important ones, though:

I'm pretty much done with it short of finding some way to do something about the remaining desyncs though, and that's a low priority item for me at the moment.

You guys can do whatever you want with it as far as I am concerned.

The little convenient zone where it links all the useful shit after you get the game on the Meltybread front page still links to Tropsy's MBCaster. Well it's not like anyone visits the page anyways, they just go to the forums... once they've assimilated themselves into the community anyways :psyduck:

Judging from the insane quantity of downloads I get of it (100+ every day), I'm pretty sure everyone knows about it anyway.

And anyone that doesn't just isn't hip enough for it.

Would it be possible to implement a variable for your IP and your enemy's IP for the naming of replays for the next release? I tried to do it myself but my compiler refused to compile it :|

Ugh, I'll think about it. Low priority at the moment though.

However, "your IP" would have to be set externally.

Is there a way of turning off automatic delay calculations? For some reason, it keeps changing the delay to something ridiculously high after a few rounds, even if there was absolutely no lag in the previous matches xD

Delay is not changed mid-session automatically. Period. If it changes in the middle of a session, then you pressed one of the number keys to set it manually in match.

The automatic setting at the beginning is bugged and always accepted regardless of what you input; my fault, it slipped under the radar and I never realized it. (Hey, it's accurate enough.)

How much bandwidth does netplay use?

I'll have a 5gig per day cap once I get Resnet. That's really high, but I just want to be sure.

Well, let's see.

60 packets are sent per second by each side, they come out to:

26 bytes UDP header
4 bytes Caster header
1 byte identifier byte
6 bytes game information
12 bytes input data
and every 20th packet gets 22 bytes of sync data.

3006 bytes/sec each way, so 6012 bytes total per second.

This is about 21 megabytes per hour.

If someone is spectating on you, this is increased by 25%, or 27MB/hour.

I REALLY don't think you have anything to worry about.
