Just some more crazy Aoko stuff. Aoko apparently can setup anywhere on the screen and in the corner, it's just a rapefest. Makes Sion's EX Cutting Sync combos look scrubby.

Standard follow up on CH off Nero or Nanaya summon is generally:

CH > 2a > 2b > j.a > j.c > j.c > throw/pinwheel. So it's pretty much what you're doing already. Warakia is TERRIBLE at capitalizing off CH so don't expect much.

You'll generally have to dash in after the CH hits. If you're fast enough, you can go for the 2c > whatever, but I don't really bother. If you get a hit off a Nanaya summon, its not air techable so go for the dash 2a, 2b. If you want to be tricky, you can dash in, wait for the tech bounce, and use 2b to poke and tech punish.

Wallachia (Warakia) / Re: Warakia/Wallachia Moves, Combos and Strategies~

Nanaya summon is only useful for zoning, and its pretty crappy at that. It hits fullscreen tho, so when you want to harass the other side or bait them to coming to your side, Nanaya summon shines in that regard. If they try to jump it, you could try dash-in 623c but that's just gimmicks. Nanaya summon, like most of Warachia's normals, is generally just a poke and something you throw out to fill up the screen. Don't use it unless the other person is on the opposite corner or after a blockstring ender (preferably 5c) because it has some pretty terrible recovery. Nanaya summon after throw works as a meaty but its pretty risky since you'll probably lose to reversal DP.

Nero summon is only useful after knockdown and, as far as oki options go, isn't that bad. Midscreen it generally loses to reversal backdash although you can bait that with 2c, 5c, or dash 5b. In corner, its absolutely wicked as you can delay it for throw. It also creates a safe Force Heat setup since the Nero claw covers. Nero summon major setbacks is that it loses a lot to shield, which shuts down the 2a, 2b, IAD j.b options. It also loses out to jumping of all things, which means you should go for the 2a or 2c meaty to get respect. One of my major peeves with Nero is that it does not hit the opponent out of reversal DP. So if you dash in and eat EX DP from Nanaya, Nero generally will not Nanaya out.

I think the most underrated setup that not a lot of Wara's use is EX Tornado. It pretty much splits the screen at the divide and has a ton of frame advantage on block. Best of all, you can use it as a meaty after EX Pinwheel and its safe. I generally use EX Tornado after 5c 22 to stuff anyone from dashing in or after throw/EX Pinwheel if I want a safe Heat setup. It only loses out against Ciel but that was pretty much a given. You can't combo after it unlike Warc summon, but at 50% cheaper, it's more user friendly. Use EX Tornado at range and optimally at half screen. If they auto-shield the tornado, go for the throw or the jump-in.

Wallachia (Warakia) / Re: Warakia Actress Again changes
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:52:53 PM »
C-Warakia will probably end up as the top choice which is sad since Half Moon seems like the direction everyone is going. Problem is Warakia overall still does shit damage so using H-Warakia really screws up your damage potential since you're pretty much saving and then burning meter you need for EX Pinwheel.

I'm still not sold on I-no dash F-warakia since his normals look pathetic. The only thing wara had going for him was great range and it looks like F-wara got toned down in that regard.

Air Katto is good I guess, and I think they sped up Akiha summon which can only be a good thing.

Kohaku / Re: Kohaku match-ups
« on: September 22, 2008, 05:06:59 PM »
Generally, matchups are considered in sums of 10. So when you say Kohaku vs. Ciel is 3-5 in Ciel's favor, you probably mean 3.75-6.25 in Ciel's favor. I'll shorten it to 4-6 which sounds about right.

There's already a matchup chart made by Arly. You'll find it here: http://www.meltybread.com/forums/index.php?topic=1170.100

Since I usually play KohaHisui pair, my experiences differ from yours a bit, but it shouldn't be that much. Just off what I remembered:

Kohaku vs. Arcuied: 5-5 sounds about right.

Kohaku vs. Akiha: probably around 3.5-6.5 for Akiha. Kohaku doesn't deal enough damage to Akiha's GGPO endurance to compensate for the damage Akiha can do to you.

Kohaku vs. Nero: probably 6-4 Kohaku's favor. You get FREE instant overhead and Nero teleporting from plants is just bait.

Kohaku vs. Sion: probably 4-6 Sion's favor. You get more health as Kohaku solo but not enough to deal with Sion.

Kohaku vs. Miyako: lost me there. I don't play enough Miyako. I would guess it would be around 4-6 Miyako's favor though.

C'mon Grow!

Wth at 1 Nero? That's even more disappointing than 1 Wara.

60
I'd like to attend as well. I'll probably end up just driving, so I can offer carpools to anyone living in Downtown LA or Long Beach.

61
Do people generally go to FFA or Arcade Infinity? I went to AI on Saturday and chilled there for a good 4-5 hrs but the only people who were playing MBAC were these random 4 yr. old hispanic kids with their mom standing over them.

On the plus side, AI has this wicked Azumanga Daioh Bubble Bubble game that I played with my friend for a good half hour. Sakaki is top tier for a reason I cannot adequately explain.

Melty Blood Auditorium / Re: Tier List
« on: February 06, 2008, 12:45:06 PM »
Like lina said, Aoko's 3c isn't really good anti-air. However, it is good for clipping people who are starting to jump. So while it won't stuff jump-ins, it will punish people who like to jump after blockstrings, after blocking orbs, after backdashing, etc.

On another note, poor Warakia really has the shit piled on him. Remember, despite his crap tier reputation, Shonen using Warakia in SBO 2006 got pretty far. It could be that if more people actually bothered to use him at all, he'd be higher up in the tier list. Just off the top of my head, I'll list a few of his good points:

1) Top-tier dash. Although it doesn't have Ciel's ZOMG clash frames, it covers ground and keeps him low to the ground.
2) Range. Sure in MBAC zoning isn't as useful in general, but it never hurt. Warakia, I will argue, has more tools than average to avoid being rush down. His crappy initial HP puts him at a disadvantage early, but Warakia really shines in end-game when both sides have low HP and are just looking to get that last poke or combo in.
3) One of the best DP in the game. Warakia's 623c is a wonderful thing. It comes out fast and comes out straight above him. I've caught a lot of jump happy players just by doing dash --> 623C. Works really well against ring-spamming Warcs.
4) Decent oki. Granted, VSion's shadows make Warakia's look retarded. But as a whole, Warakia's shadows aren't terrible. Nero blocks people from jumping. Nanaya blocks people from backdashing. And Akiha is an overhead. A slow overhead, but an overhead nonetheless.
5) Overall, the basic gameplan of Warakia is to play keepaway until you can use his high mobility to grind out a combo. It's not the most top tier strategy, but Warakia can do it well. He has shadows, tornadoes, long normals, etc that keep the other player at a distance, a situation where Warakia does best. He can do respectable damage with meter and can grind down the clock if he wants to. His biggest flaw is that once the opponent gets close, he has a difficult time pushing back. But then again, a lot of characters don't deal with rush down well.

40 entrants for Melty Blood of all things. I would not have thought it possible. Great job WC, and Arly in particular, for promoting a game to such a wide range of people along the Pacific. It's nice to see hard work and dedication pan out and people in WC definitely put in the time and effort for MBAC to gain some measure of respectability. Kudos to all entrants and tourney organizers.

A shout-out to everyone from Norcal. It's impressive what you guys have done to the local scene. Next WT, with more matches under the belt, you guys will definitely do much better. Making the trip to and from FFA in one day is too hard core though. HYPE =/= DEATH. You bastards couldn't have played while I was still there could you? Perhaps...I WAS THE CRIMINAL???

Nice Sion, Magz. Just like I said nice V.Akiha last WT. I'll officially stop demanding that you switch back to Satsuki. Wondering where you're going to go from here though? V.Akiha --> Sion -->   :mystery: You should reverse tier whore now and use WLen or Warakia.

Great job placing Lina. Proving once again that you don't need a main to win! I kinda figured you'd use Hisui but I personally thought you'd go OG HisuKoha  like back in the old days. You would have won the whole thing if you RANDOM-ed your way through though. As motivation, I challenge you to FT5 Random 10$ MM whenever I see you next time! What do you say?

With MB:AA coming up, I'd like to try to get back in the groove of things. Since there seems to be some people around Boston (or close to Boston), I'd like to have a MBAC gathering at my place in Brighton. I don't really know when or what time, but for anyone whose interested in coming, PM with your schedule and I'm sure I can come up with something.

Even better. You live in a world where when you place top three in a tourney, you still get told off for being low tier.

Here's a lesson MC: If someone winning doesn't mean crap to you, don't complain when your wins don't mean crap either.

IOW, PLAY NICE!

The magz v. psylocke match was commentated on by Arlieth. The later matches were commentated on by Sanchez.

I actually enjoyed the commentary a great deal. But Chibi makes a good point. Probably only the experienced players will enjoy the commentary because they already know whats going on. The newer players won't appreciate the humor because they're just as confused. But regardless, highly entertaining commentary.

Just wanted to give some input while I watched these vids. Remarkable playing. Just amazing. I'll put in more as the day continues.

Magz vs. Psylocke

Magz:
- Damn, you've come a long way. A long, long way. Definitely stick with V. Akiha if you can pull this shit off consistently. You've stopped doing just IAD j.C and you have some really great mixups. Solid, solid, corner traps and loop. I'm proud of you man. I remember beating you for free just a few months back. Your V. Akiha has definitely made great progress.
- Try using more empty j.C on the wakeup crossups. You were eating shield a lot and if Psy wasn't trying to be pro with charged 5b, you might have actually ended up losing some rounds.
- You were getting airthrown a LOT. Try backdashing your SJ more because Psy was just sitting on it. I would have liked to see more aerial flametongue mobility, but you did well enough without it.
- I noticed there were some execution problems in the later rounds. A lot of missed TK Flame Pit and some pretty retarded 236 nonsense that makes Satoken cry. Bad Magz. Bad.
- I dont know how effective it might be, but some 6c mixup could be put into consideration.

Psylocke:
- Best Akiha in US. I said it. No one touches you on consistency and setups. No one controls air space like your Akiha does and nobody makes me more afraid of corner rape then that j.2c of yours. I heard from some EC peeps that Zar would beat you but I'm not going to bite. You've been playing Akiha since day one and it shows.
- Watch those throw setups buddy. I know its your bread and butter but sometimes, you gotta stop rushing in and getting out-poked.
- Bait that force heat more. I know you like that floating j.2c oki setups but you'll eat heat everytime you do that. Magz was just forcing out of your corner traps because you relied on that nasty oki-setup too much.
- I know its hard to block V.Akiha in the corner but by the end, you were just getting smoked. What happened to the shield? The airthrow? You were owning Magz for free in the beginning with that those. Don't lose confidence. You know that j.a or that j.c is coming. You know he's going to IAD after that blocked j.a. Kill him for it.

Alt vs. Scott

Alt:
- Ugh...watching your Warakia makes me remember all the crap I had to put up with. Punish every mistake, every blockstring, every whiff...yah, you still do the thing you do. Your switching to Kouma anyway, but I'll rag on your Warakia regardless.
- Knockdown 2c into Nero summon. Not 2c5c into Nero summon. I know you like that forward tech into 623c trick, but I'm telling you, Nero summon after sweep is where's it at.
- You like those random Nanaya and Akiha summons don't you? I don't even know how to critique em since they worked. But you have to tell me sometimes what you think when you summon for fun.
- GG Warakia. GO GO KOUMA!

Scott:
- Pumpkin Ciel...WHHHHYYY???
- You have to play tight against Warakia and against Alt in particular. I think you were getting a bit impatient and I feel you. But sometimes, just back off a bit from the Ciel rushdown. Alt was sitting on that dash of yours and was just hitting j.c after every 2a or 2b poke you were throwing. I would actually try dashing in with 4c with Ciel since that has some decent AA properties. At worst you might exchange hits but that's better then eating a full combo everytime. Plus, you know better than to dash in with 623b.
- I know you like that flashy 22b into 214c aircombo ender (you whiffed it a couple of times I think), but really, stick with airthrow. You were killing me in casuals with it since you are really good at oki.
- You were going for the shield way too much by the second match and I kinda think you knew it wasn't going to work half the time. Also, instead of 2c after 5a CH, I would go for charged 5c. You'll get more damage off it.
- Stay patient! Rushing in is playing right into Alt's hands. Zone a bit more with knives if you have to and make him eat EX Hiero during random shadow summon.

Leo vs. Veteru
(LEO!! YOU HAD IT! OTG LOOP IN THE CORNER FTW! T.T)

Leo:
- Well, with all the WC Satsukis, someone has to be the best right? Good, good shit. Since you played it so close, its hard to say what advice I could give which might have tipped anything in your favor. Seriously, good playing.
- I noticed 2c countering was killing you early on. Veteru was IADing your 2c early on. Plus 2c while Nanaya is landing is just suicide. Veteru was just waiting for it so he could DJ and j.c punish. You switched it to 5a which really worked very well. My only advice is try to nail those 5a CH combos. I noticed you were just slamming 5a instead of fishing for the CH into loop. Its picking at hairs, but see what you can get out of it.
- You like that IAD j.c a lot, but when you IAD cancel your 214a, try going into empty j.c. I noticed you didn't try that at all during your match, but it really is a good dimension in Satsuki's game. It can lead to a lot of bite or throw setups at the very worst.
- Veteru was backdashing your midscreen crossups all the time. I would have just tried the normal SJ into meaty 2c setups to see if that would have worked.
- I almost cried when you tried to 236c Veteru after his Heat at the end of the second match. YOU KNEW THAT WASN'T GOING TO WORK! YOU KNEW IT! Plus you missed the OTG corner combo in the end. Just throw that 2c out! Seriously though, those are decisions anyone might try to make at the end of a very tight game. Its hard for me to rag you too hard for it.

Veteru:
- Veteru...the man...the theory...the IRC legend. You have definitely silenced many critics. Excellent gameplay and solid, solid execution. You didn't whiff anything and you knew what you were out there to do. You know this game in a way few people do or even tried to do. GG!
- If there's any aspect of the game that I think you need work on, its the tech traps. You probably like the sure thing damage more, but I notice a lot of Nanaya players try to go for the OTG combos after knockdown to fish for a bounce. Especially in corner. I like those 623c combos as much as anyone, and its really up to you, but I think I would toss a random OTG setup just for fun and see what happens.
- Watch more of Gao! His blockstring don't require him to dash forward :)
- Keep on rushing it down.

Post more in a bit.

GET YOUR TREES DOWN!

But yeah, the get-together was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. If I could get more people to come next time, so much the better. I'll also try to make the next one more extended since I had to boot dippy and K out early. If anyone wants to come over and needs a place to crash for the night, I can probably fit one or two peeps in the living room. I definitely want to hype up Boston so anyone in the general area who needs some competition, give me a PM with your schedule available so I can plan accordingly.

And Dippy loves walking into those arc drives. Sion anti-air bullet FTW.
