C-NAC damage: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm11603362

match 1 win was epic.

NAC is a valid character because of one reason: deer jousting.

besides that, his lowered damage is crap, he has to do so much to stay in the game now, the smaller hitbox doesn't really make up for it, imo

My scanner is shit, but whenever I do get a good one, if you are still wanting scans...

I've got 2 copies of 1, 2, 3.

No. 1.
I was on Ebay looking for no. 1 and I was bidding for one. This guy I was bidding against brought the bid up to $90. I bid at $90 then gave up because he kept outbidding me, so I looked and found someone selling it for 'buy now' for $100. $10 more and a guarantee buy, so I bought it. 3 days later, the bid ended and I won at the $90.  :emo:

No. 2.
I bought no. 2 on ebay for $40. I brought it to work so I could read it while work was dead (when I worked as a manager in retail). It mysteriously vanished and I thought someone threw it away since I was the only one at the place who could read Japanese. I went on Ebay and bought another for $30. Three months later the missing one turned up...somewhere...I don't remember where.

No. 3.
I bought no. 3 at Kinokuniya in LA for $20. The next month my friend went to Japan and saw the magazine and bought it for me not knowing I already owned it.

No. 4.
Friend went to LA, bought it at Kinokuniya for me. Maybe I should buy a second since I have two of all the rest?

No. 5.
Bought online and had it shipped via Tenso.com. Tenso failed and lost my order...or something...and I never got it even though I bought it. Friend in Japan now is getting one for me and should be back in a week and a half.

I dunno, in my opinion, Taigi seems the most fitting. Oh, and Canaan...of course Canaan was rather ambiguous anyway, so that's kinda cheating.

In other news, I've had this Ciel-sensei avatar forever. I'm considering a change to something new. This strikes my interest:

GARcuied, champion of great justice.

I bought Type Ace vol 1 for $90
(Then I lost it so I bought a second for $100 only to find my other the day after the second arrived)
I bought Type Ace vol 2 for $70
3 and 4 I got for cheap through Tenso

At this rate, shall we start a donation drive for Shin to thank him for his work?  :mystery:

Wait till I start translating Mahoyo. Translating a few pages from a magazine is nothing compared to translating the script for an entire game. I'm both looking forward to it and not at the same time.

In other news...Shin is bored because nobody on Facebook wants to chat and I don't use IMs anymore. Join me on Facebook for all my boring updates. www.facebook.com/shinmasaki

I will at least be updating progress stats on there regarding translations. I don't use Twitter, so Facebook is my update page.

good stuff, I'll get to looking at these as soon as I get the chance to really sit down at the computer. In other news, a friend of mine is in Japan for the next two weeks and I'm having him get a Type Moon Ace 5 in person because tenso.com apparently lost my order.  :emo:

they publish them whenever they feel like. #4 came out in December 2009
#3 came out in October 2009
#2 came out in January 2009
#1 came out in ...I forgot...

I wish it were a monthly release on a regular schedule so I know when the next is coming out. You pretty much have to just look out for it and jump at it when you get the chance.

AI Shiki is made to make you lose on Lunatic. It is impossible to beat her without dying at least once. As she is the Yama and intends to teach you a lesson for your misdeeds, you cannot beat her without dying. I'm not trolling about this, this is how the game was programmed.

I am very impatiently awaiting my Type Ace to arrive. I ordered it the week after Evo and it has now been almost 3 weeks. Tenso.com is becoming unreliable very fast for me. I may want to reconsider having them ship my Mahoyo copy when it comes out...

Just attempted a run with Marisa B and Reimu B with EoSD on Normal. I'm never going back to amulets again.

Needles are boss killers, while beams are insanely good at clearing entire waves of mobs clean of the screen.

Shin, how is Youmu top tier? Her hinderance bullets are nowhere as good as Reimu's yin-yang orbs, and her shots have below average firing rate. I know that Charge 1 can destroy bullets, but when your screen gets flooded by a mass of bullets, hinderance and (curses) Lily White, your slash doesn't keep up and you have to blow a bomb to get out of the situation. It's a little hard for her to outlast another opponent IMO.

I would pick Marisa or any of the Prismriver sisters as top tier over Youmu in Touhou 8.

You would be surprised with how well that slash can do. Watching top players play who can weave through needles width spaces, that Slash clears walls like none other. Youmu's shots really aren't all that great, but she has a slightly smaller than average hitbox and able to clear shots makes her able to survive for long times. Reimu's Yin-Yang orbs become ridiculous after about 3 minutes of a match...when you have bosses, followed by Lily, all the while having damn Yin-Yangs all over the place...also you have to be careful with your weaving against a Reimu as her shots can fold over themselves walling you in. If you are playing against a player, that is.

If you are playing against the computer, because of how the game is programmed, Aya and Reimu and Tewi are all quite powerful.

omfg stop it guys nothing good comes with touhou talk
fix'd

I have cleared 6, 7, 8, and 10 on Lunatic. 11 wont recognize my USB controller, so I can't make an honest attempt since I play with pad. 12 is damn hard...I can't 1cc the game on Lunatic because Shou's fucking lasers are a bitch... That said, I haven't given it a real attempt on Hard, but Shou's lasers still curve around as do Byakuren's regardless of difficulty. This sucks because I really want to beat up on Kogasa in Extra.

I've cleared Extra on 6, 7 (and Phantasm...Yukari's streaming shots are lols), and 8 (yay for safe spots against Mokou). I've seen people who can't clear 10 on normal 1cc clear Suwako...for some wtf reason though, I can't seem to beat her. Koishi can go to hell with her heart shaped shots. Oh wait...she already lives there.  :psyduck: Nue looks damn easy.

In Touhou 6, I actually prefer Reimu B and her Sealing Needle shots. Her Homing Amulets make some stages easy, but it does make bosses go a bit slower. I prefer Reimu over Marisa because of smaller hitbox, more control than Marisa, and I like her dialogue better than Marisa's. I prefer Reimu moving slower, since you can get more micrograzing possible when in heavy danmaku. Sealing Needles > Homing Amulets for damage and slower speeds are vital when you don't have a visible hitbox (if you don't activate it with the patch). When you bomb, you autocollect which is great for the opening of stage 2 for both points and power, which are both important as this will get you extra lives faster and attack power max sooner. Reimu's bombs are much better than Marisa's in that they stay active for a good while, but you can still move while bombing allowing for more auto-collection and positioning for the next set of enemies, whereas Marisa is stuck in place with very little movement available.

Touhou 7, use Sakuya B. Touhou 8, Team Reimu/Yukari is broken. Touhou 9, Youmu or Reimu, because they are top tier. Touhou 10, Marisa B is broken. Touhou 11, Reimu/Yukari is broken. Touhou 12, Sanae B is lols.

I thought it was Anemia? that's what it says in my translation patch i use for EoSD anyway... "*sob* I'm so anemic I can't even recite the spells...."

Now, why would anemia make you not able to recite stuff? It's a given that Patchy is asthmatic already. While it does say 'anemic', that doesn't make any sense. I'm thinking that when the script was written, ZUN mistook asthma for anemia and wrote the wrong word in.

Anyway, at the start of her Extra fight? You mean with Silent Selene? Royal Flare is the one that pisses me off so much.

Me, I've never caught QED either...that spell is a bitch at the end... :slowpoke:

It does sort of have an anime. One episode was created and that was it. The artwork and seiyuu that they had were quite good, in my opinion. However, from what I understand, ZUN was upset with the production of this and requested the team working on this anime to stop production. Part of him getting upset about this had to do with the possibility of Touhou getting licensed, which was a big no from ZUN, so the show stopped. I personally liked it, from the one episode, that is.

Reimu fought Patchouli twice in EoSD? Really? I really got to play that game again  :psyduck:

Patchouli is the stage 4 boss in the regular game. She is also the mid-boss in Extra. Apparently, her asthma has cleared up by Extra.

well, when you make a world where the only three males in the universe are a turtle, a grumpy reclusive shopkeeper, and an old half ghost gardener/swordsmaster who has gone missing for the past XX years, it's not too hard to make a lot of gay pairings in Touhou. MeixSaku = <3

as great as the games are, the biggest thing going for Touhou is its fanbase and everything that the fans are doing associated with the characters. The stories themselves are mostly pointless and have little value besides introducing the characters. To sum up the stories of Touhou, here's the Touhou story meme that's been circulating:

Reimu is a bitch.

The Highly Responsive to Prayers: Reimu goes on a homicidal rampage.

Story of Eastern Wonderland: Reimu seeks revenge for Mima's revenge for Reimu's previous rampage.

Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream: Reimu interferes with academia and scientific progress.

Lotus Land Story: Reimu kills a youkai who tried to help her.
She also breaks into a mansion and beat up the gatekeeper and everyone inside because for some reason she believes that would stop ghosts from going to her shrine.

Mystic Square: Reimu orphans Alice and destroys an entire world for its creator's belief in the free market.

The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: Reimu places a little girl who wanted to go flower gazing under house arrest.
I would also like to add that on the way, she beats up retarded kids, violates private property, and picks a fight with an asthmatic person. TWICE.

Perfect Cherry Blossom: Reimu prevents an innocent girl from being revived.
Not to mention beating up the self-appointed guardian of an inhabited village with the stated intention of plundering it for good luck (which she then seemingly does off-camera).

Immaterial and Missing Power: Reimu breaks up parties.
Also prevents a girl from achieving her dream of reuniting her people.

Imperishable Night: Reimu strips Gensokyo of its defences against a Lunar invasion.
Not to mention the repeated killing of the elderly in the Extra stage.
Alternatively, Reimu does everything in her power to stop the heroes from resolving the incident.

Phantasmagoria of Flower View: Reimu attacks people for no good reason.

Mountain of Faith: Reimu oppresses other religions.

Scarlet Weather Rhapsody: Reimu endorses slave labor.
Not only that, but she also beats up her best friend to get out of doing chores and spends the majority of the story throwing baseless accusations at every person she meets and beating them up before they can protest.

Subterranean Animism: Reimu cuts back funding for alternative energy sources.

Undefined Fantastic Object: Reimu illegally seizes a merchant ship's cargo, then beats up Jesus.

Hisoutensoku: Reimu blames little kids for trouble because they look like they're having fun.

Double Spoiler: Reimu refuses to cooperate with important paparazzi.

And that is Reimu, the main heroine and the one the story follows, for the most part.

Questions...forming...  ???

Does ZUN actually make any money from Touhou?
If there's no endings to the games, how do the fans know what's canon and what isn't?
Why IS Cirno considered the strongest?

He does make money from the games that he sells directly. He sees no profit from the CDs or the doujins that are sold. As it is not licensed, there are no royalties involved in any of the Touhou merchandising or anything. He makes money by being there personally selling the games and the manga he was a part of. In an interview, he was asked about this and says that he continues to make Touhou games because it is fun and he sees himself as merely a fan as well and not as a creator. He's not in it for the money, or else he would have sold out long ago.

There are multiple endings to every Touhou game. It was merely a request, one of two, that ZUN made, that nobody publicly display the endings so not to spoil the game endings for those who have not cleared the game.

Cirno is the strongest for a few reasons. As a fairy, she is perhaps the strongest of her entire race (fairies) earning the ability to be a stage 2 boss, a stage 1 mid-boss (for a full youkai), and a player character twice. That player character is a huge status point. She isn't that bright, however, and uses the term あたい when talking about herself. In Touhou 6 where she makes her debut, Cirno refers to herself as a powerful enemy and in Touhou 9 (where the whole Cirno deal exploded), one of her win quotes is "I'm the strongest".
