I'm not surprised that Rise is dedicated to announcer duty. Actually, I'd be surprised if she was anything else as she had absolutely no combat ability in P4.

dat commercial :fap:

Was this when you played it at Bell's?
Yup.  Were you there for that?  I don't even remember who all was up chilling with me besides Brett and Jeff.

I actually wasn't there that night. I do, however,  remember glorious whispers of GalGun the next day.

Thoughts on Dark Souls, guys?

I finally got this game, like a week late. Cleared up to ringing the first bell. Good times.

Also if you are complaining about the button configuration in this game you're nuts.
I'll be real, I was lost at first when norcal made me play Demon Souls.  Random x presses wasting grass and shit.  lol

But really, after a little bit of play, I couldn't imagine it any other way.  Very good setup.  The fact that you're raging so hard over it, Roy, makes me giggle.

Was this when you played it at Bell's?

Wow someone in Rside that wants to play Melty! lol.  I'm currently living right next to UCR.  I did move, but I ended up rooming with some friends here.  I pretty much gave up on fighters at this point after the small AH3 scene here died lol.  I got tired of playing the same Japanese players over and over again online and all of my friends pretty much dropped it and started playing marvel and SF4 again.  I'm willing to get into Melty again, but it's been a while since I played.  I also have no car anymore.  I pretty much have to rely on Fatacon for transportation now :x.

So Fatacon... what do you play nowadays?

Edit:  O yeah.  Danny still has your AH3 copy lol.

What is this?! After a while we didn't even play anymore! TRAITOR! :gonk:

I haven't been playing much of anything, and don't forget, I already moved back to NorCal. No rides for you! :laffo:

P.S. Damn it. Forgot Danny had my copy before I moved lol

That's understandable. We just have differing opinions of the matter. Well, Reiki kinda separated himself to begin with. It seemed as if he didn't acknowledge the players NorCal already has. There are monthly tournaments going on for MBAA (and have been for quite some time now). I understand his aim is to get a CC cab, which is great, but his initial statements were basically "Oh, you guys play over there, I want something here." Instead of integrating with an already existing community of players who have been proven to travel to various places for MB, it sounded like he wanted to do his own thing. That's fine, and I'm not knocking him for that, I just treated it as such.

Plus, you can't really use the train of thought "It wouldn't have happened if we thought like that back then." Back then, there wasn't a scene to begin with. No one to tell you how things worked in the past or what could be done. It's great that you guys have built it to what it is today in America and I respect that, but that was a different time, a different game (AC?). At this stage, you've had the EC movement, the WC movement, the EVO movement, (can you even say that Canada had a movement? lol). We've seen it evolve over time. Some areas still have scenes, some no longer do. All I'm saying is games have lifespans, and so do their scenes. How is the steam in the MB community? You'd have to be ignorant or blind to say that it's still at EVO/pre-EVO levels. There's no harm in analyzing where it's at now.

I'll even requote one of my initial posts in the thread:

"Like I said. if you want to push for the game, then do that. No one is telling you not to."

Is that Leona in your avatar? Best thing about kof, cause i said so. :fap:

I believe that's Touwa Erio. If Leona knew you saw her in something like that, she'd probably kill you. Apple Juice.

Of course, pulling new people in, you obviously expect newcomers (thought it seemed like, for the most part, the people who were there and some semblance of knowledge about gameplay mechanics). One thing, I should point out (and remember, this is not meant to be insulting), is that you should be a bit more approachable. I came up to you purposely not introducing myself to see how you would react. I actually talked a bit more than you did (granted, I talk more than most people lol). You didn't ask who I was, nor did you introduce yourself. The bad part about that is, how does that look to a newcomer? It makes them feel less comfortable, less invited. I walked in as if you expected me to know what was going on. Near the end of the night, when randoms came to see what was going on, I felt like they had to ask you "Oh hey, what's going on over here?" before you acknowledged them. Not like they played or participated or anything, but it would have been more encouraging if you said something like "Hey guys, we've got some setups for a fighting game called Melty Blood. You're welcome to join in and ask questions if you'd like." I mean, if you want to have the role of promoting the scene, you have to be willing to play the part. It's possible that you were just down from the disappointment of the showing (which you expressed), but you gotta keep up that enthusiasm if you really want to carry this thing. You can be in touch with as many people as you want, but you have to keep people hype if it's your scene. Scenes don't last if people don't care.

It was, however, the first session, so it can always be improved on. Just move on and make the best of the next one.

EDIT:

Please fucking move to the East Coast, your devotion and determination would fit right in here.

I'm halfway upset reading this thread, but fuck it keep doing your thing and don't let a fucking soul stop you.

What in this thread makes you mad, Chibi? I think it's just people being realistic. Even James knows that the NorCal scene has seen ups and downs to near nonexistence. Even so, people are giving him their thoughts on the matter instead of leaving him out to dry. I came late to his session and still paid to support both the arcade and his endeavor. There are people in NorCal, even just WC in general who do love Melty. We just understand the state that things are in and are letting him know what he's up against. I personally hope he succeeds, but a "You-can-do-it" attitude just doesn't cut it in a Capcom infested world. Better to give him feedback he can use for future planning than not say anything (at least that's my goal in posting in this thread). If I didn't think it was worth my time, I wouldn't have posted to begin with.

12
Well, let me know how things go at the next session. Sad to say, it's not really worth it to drive about an hour away with the turnout that happened on Thursday. (Although it was nice to see Sarsapari alive and well :toot:). Not being condescending or anything, but without a job, it's not very cost effective for me to be running back and forth at that distance when I have more than competent competition like 15 minutes away, once a week/month. I'll probably be at SouthTown though, for other things, if not Melty.

That said, good luck. Making a Melty movement happen at this point is going to be quite a task, that many, long before you, have attempted (pre-EVO, of course).

Ah well, always worth checking at least, thanks for the responses. Guess I'll have to go back to my original plan of getting to San Fran and building my own scene once I get back to NorCal. Two months without a human player...  :emo:

Norcal already has a scene, you need to wait until cc2 potentially gets a port before anyone is going to play melty again.

NorCal does have a scene, but it'd be a 2 hour drive with me still not having a car. Might as well try to build my own in order to cut down on travel costs. Here's to hoping that the port lands for PS3/360 and we at least get netplay.

Besides, I'm impatient and want opponents now, damnit. I'll do my best to get at least 1-2 converts to MBAA.

You should get in touch with that Reiki Kito guy. He's trying to start up some scenes in SF and San Mateo. He's pushing for that CC cab at SouthTown.

You just missed the proverbial "gravy train". I was down in Riverside for the past year, and Pyroryuken asked me to teach him how to play MBAA. He has since then moved, and I moved back to NorCal about 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if SoCal even plays the game anymore outside of Numakie and randoms. From what I've seen, Riverside is mostly the SF4/MvC crowd.

Ivan, you back yet?  I miss you T__T

You're scaring me, Kevin. I will hesitantly inform you that I have indeed returned to my Northern homelands in order to continue the glorious bloodletting of various melted kinds.

:laffo:  Does using this emote scare you more?

Anyways, what have you been up to?  Are you gonna attend that San Mateo gathering this Thurs?

Thinking about it. Depends on if I'm still sick or not. Haven't been up to much. I've only been back for about 2 weeks now :V

I intend to try it; I just want a back-up plan or three to try. Any other ideas are more than welcome.

You could hold a local ranbat for console MBAA somewhere other than the arcade, and ask the arcade owners to help you advertise by allowing you to put up some kind of flyer. You don't have to limit yourself to grabbing the attention of only the people who go to SouthTown.

Anyway, I'll probably head to ST sometime in the next 2 weeks for XIII, so we could probably talk then or something.

18
I'll talk to the arcade team and see if they would be willing to use a PS2 version of AA using a projector on off days. If it comes with a cost, I'll pay it. That way, people will see what we're doing and ask about the game.

^ Why don't you just do this?

Let people have some free play on the game on weekends or something. Give people who play the main games like AE or whatever play it on their downtime while waiting for their turn. Although, you would have to talk to the owner, considering you're taking away customers from spending money in other cabs. At the least, you'll probably have to rent out space, unless you're really cool with the owner.

Didn't E3 stop being hype like over half a decade ago when they stopped letting the general public in?  People still care about this?  I thought it was all mainstream release bullshit.

^ HIPSTER. Hating. It's the cool thing to do.

Believe it or not, some people enjoy "mainstream" things. Some people watch it for the unveiled tech. Some people watch it for trailers. Some people watch it because it lumps updates all in one place for new things coming out. Who cares if E3 is public or not. As far as news, and not hands-on demos, internet coverage is a valid option. Not everyone has the time or money to actually to go to E3, Komidol.

Actually those aren't there anymore.

Come move to NYC and we'll happily make love to the machine.

but EC already has a Snapple machine :V

AA and CC are different.

Just like you can't get out to SJ for meets, it's not exactly easy for other people to get out to SF. It's all perspective. That's the point I was making. Like I said. if you want to push for the game, then do that. No one is telling you not to. I already said that in the previous post. I even said i already talked to them about the game.

Whatever you think, and however much you want it, MB is a niche game in America. You're going at it like it's SF or BB, in terms of scene. As much as most of us here would like it to be that way, it's not. Regardless, good luck.

23
I applaud your enthusiasm, but there is a game (console MBAA) and there are events/monthlies for it (NCI). Like I said, most likely, no one here, is against having a CC cab at Southtown. Just putting out perspective, that's all. Plus, you said you were already able to get some kind of response from your end, so run with that for now. I already did my part, so I'm not sure what else you're expecting.

24
After talking and thinking it over, I agree with dakanya. How much time does NorCal actually have in order for Southtown's investment to be worth it? Obviously, the decision is up to the owners, but, knowing the risk involved, you have to understand the state of the community. As much as we would all enjoy playing it, the scene may not be able to get behind it as much as we would like to. Commute + money + monthlies + lack of IRL time = uncertainty. Most probably wouldn't go more than bi-weekly or once a month. Coupled with the fact that the cost to play will most likely be .50+, you're going to have a hard time drawing the crowd from your spiffy new AE and XIII cabs. It's pretty much the same situation at FFA.The people who play CC there are the ones who wanted to play it in the first place. There isn't really overlap. Something to think about. This is coming from me, who would drive almost an hour in SoCal to play on an XIII cab. I did, in fact contact Southtown about MBAACC prior, but these are my most recent thoughts on the matter.

TL;DR Cool if it is. Cool if it isn't. Just don't have expectations.

Lots of interesting stuff:

Rocks are great. In the corner, just throw it out after an untechable knockdown and you get whatever mixup you want (throw/dash low, airdash mixup). midscreen, If you jump-hit it, you can air dash after it for more pressure or to go over an opponent who can get under it. Works well in blockstrings too.

Charged pilebunker thing goes ridiculously far. Almost full screen.

Missles... I'm not sure how useful they are, to be honest. I feel like whenever he used missles, he could have done something else. Plus, it's not like he scored anything major off of landing one (at least not that i recall).

Her ground throw is similar to Miyako's, in that you can use it to switch sides and continue comboing. Big plus, i think.

DP/EX DP allows movement on whiff which makes it useful and safe, as far as DPs go. Movement also means you can do moves after, which leads to...

That diving stab thing. I wonder how safe it is on block? The knockdown on it is great and, coupled with the pressure we've seen so far, I don't see why you'd end her air combos with anything else.

I should note that I'm only listing observations for Full moon. She looks pretty fun, and she's probably going to get whored out like Ryougi cause she's the hot, new thang.
