Tournaments and Events / Anime Weekend Atlanta needs melty players.
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:54:38 PM »
Anime Weekend Atlanta(aka AWA) is one of the biggest general anime/video game events in the southeast.  A melty tournament is being considered but turnout for this event could effect the possibility of any future melty tournaments at AWA.

The event is held in Atlanta, GA.  If any of you melty players in the southeast are actually alive then come to this event.  Support the MBAC community and have some fun while your at it.  :)

home page for AWA- http://www.awa-con.com/index.php?page=home

topic discussing possible melty tournament. you might want to post here if you are actually gonna show up.  :'(  - http://www.awa-con.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=9222

Well, I hope to see you there.

if im not mistaken you can also cancel her ground dash into 623C. not often useful but occasionally.  also if you time it perfectly her 5b will come out remarkably fast after a ground dash. almost like your canceling it. hard to do/use though.

and yeah, don't ground dash.

I would love to go to this. not sure i can make it since im poor and live in GA but ill try.

I can bring: 1 19inch television. 1 copy of MBAC.  A ps2 if needed

Games i want to join: MBAC, GGAC

try the posted ones occasionally. how often i clear mine out depends on how lazy I'm feeling.  if you check them regularly you should have luck with some of them.

Unless your mimi. he has black magic.  he played for a week and was good..... with no prior fighting game experince. Shudders.  I asked him why. He said he read  a guide on how to play...........

Since LordPangTong has said that real can participate he can do so this time. However, in the future i would like to keep this tournament within north america. there will be much less lag and many less issues for me to deal with. For the time being Canadian and Mexican players are permitted with my or LPTs aproval. If this causes a problem they may be cut out but i dont see that happening any time soon.  Until i state otherwise these are the tournament guidlines for registration.

Hi, SWP here.  I hope you all enjoyed yesterdays tournament. Thanks to LordPangTong for all his hard work.  He really did a good job in a difficult situation.  We had some issues with the brackets last time but this time I intend to handle them myself.  I think i have the whole bracket making thing down now and if all goes as planned there will be a preliminary bracket posted the day before the tournament.  Things will be set up so that adjustments can be made quickly and easily and we can get everything started on time.

I expect that LordPangTong will be helping out again this time and r_o_m_c will also be joining the staff.  Edit: Jen will be staff aswell.

1.) Starting date- Saturday March the 1st at 9:00pm eastern standard time. all participants must be in the room using the nick they signed up with by 8:30pm  The tournament will be fast paced and finished in one night.

2.) Location- I may change but as of now it will be held in tesujisnetplayroom on irc.pyoko.org again.

3.) Tournament Format- best 2 of three matches. The finals will be best 3 of 5. double elimination. you can only switch characters if you lose.

4.) Brackets- LordPangTong thinks the tournament should be pretty much totally random as long as delays are less than 7.  Personally i believe some concessions should be made for netplay. by that i mean adjusting the brackets according to location so that east and west coast players do not fight much until the later rounds(i did this in the first tournament). Since we disagree i ask that anyone with an opinion on this matter tell me what they think when they register.

5.) Disagreements, problems, Desyncs and the like will be handled by myself, LordPangTong, romc and Jen. All matches with a delay of 7 or above will most likely be switched.

6.) Prizes- There will be a prize of at least $40 for the winner of the tournament.

7.) If you have any question please post them here. Someone else likely has the same question.

If the time or date is a problem pm me.

To sign up, just post following this template:            (stole that right out of LPTs Post :)
Name/Alias: Your name
Location: Where you are. (State)
Contact: Email, IRC, something

Also, when  you sign up if you have an opinion on the brackets(see above) please let me know.

Here are some preliminary brackets.  Tell me if there are any problems with them. i wont be suprised if there are. The Winners bracket is on top. then the losers bracket.  I was getting pretty tired and lazy by the time i drew the losers bracket so if it it looks like a random jumble of lines thats probably because it is.  EDIT- in case anyone is concerned ill be editing the brackets a little so people dont wind up fighting the same people in losers that they just fought in winners.

Hi everyone.  They are finally hooking my internet up on Thursday.  So.... Happy.  I thought i was gonna die from withdrawal.  Wow, a prinny emoticon.  :prinny:  thats awesome. lol.  I cant wait for the tournament. Ill see you guys there.

I'm very sorry i was unable to be there. I have had issues with work and moving suddenly.  I'm glad you guys were able to take care of things.  I will not have an internet connection for the next couple of weeks. Thats part of the reason I haven't posted before now.  Lord pang tong sent me most of the results for the winners bracket(thanks a lot for your work lord pang tong). I will try and put up rankings after the tournament is done.

Again, I regret my absence. If you all will trust me to run another tournament then i will try to get another one together after i get an internet connection.  I really enjoy these type of group melty events.

Thanks. ill cya

scarringly tragic. try elfin lied. The first ep also happens to be the most violent in anime history.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai is so close to being finished that I'm not going to bother starting anything till I'm done with it. Any suggestions on what to watch after though?

you said you haven't watched fate stay night. that was really good. mushishi is a must watch if you haven't seen it. full metal panic is awesome(especially the fumofu series).  Sayonara zetsubo sensei is one of my favorites. Nodame Cantabile is really great.

Also, here are some that i thought were great or really interesting but have less of a widespread agreement about there greatness.  Aria(not action. more of a peaceful days thing but very original. no school life thanks)  Black lagoon(definitely action but pretty original). Record of Lodoss War(true oldschool greatness. knights and stuff.)  Sunabozu( what can i say, never been done before. both awesome and suprising. farily heavy on the action). Zipang(oldschool omg. who the hell wrote this. its awesome. not in my top 10 though).  Code geass( probably not for everyone, fair bit of action. i liked the concept).  Junni kokki(about 50 eps. really good. only problem is the first 15 or so are kinda average and it has to much emo.)  Ghost hound(Started this season. 10 eps out and its pretty nice. bit of a slow start though, supposedly by the person responsible for ghost in the shell) The third( not fore everyone , i liked it though. watch with caution i suppose.)  Star Ocean Ex( and excellent anime based on the epic star ocean 2nd story for the ps1. in some ways its better then the source material. has its issues though.)  Well, thats all for now. i may post some more if you want them.

22
Lol, romc has been working hard. He is really getting good. ill have to work hard to catch up.  btw, my hours were changed and i should be available saturday and sunday as originally planned. I wonder if you guys even check this page  :mystery: Oh well, im looking forward to seeing you guys saturday at 10pm eastern standard time.

23
Hi. I drew up some brackets in paint. Go ahead, laugh. lol.  im sure there was a better way to do this but ill be happy asuming i can figure out how to post the images here.

Edit: Huray, and with any luck they will stay there.  got to learn more about posting images.

Sadly, I just got a new job and am expected to work from 2pm eastern standard time through 12am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We can either reschedule the remainder of the tournament or you guys can finish up and report the results to me.  Sorry for the trouble.

Im aware the brackets probably arent done as well as they could be but they should work. any advice is welcome.  I was trying to use a template to begin with but wound up just drawing my own. Oh yeah, romc and jen have to finish there match. there are a couple of blank spaces in the first couple rounds for zan and jay J and N i think. had a slight mix up. one goes one place the other goes in the other place. ask them.

Edit: addtional notes- akimoto k and ninja nero have yet to fight as far as i know. they have until 10:00 pm saturday. or were suposed to anyway. .  Liquid beat me and advanced. Enhance and Roadmanb also have yet to fight.

Thanks for your time and patience guys. i hope you all enjoy the tournament. Cya around.

I dont know much about this kind of thing but it sounds awesome to me.  I definitely want to enter.   I really have no idea how you managed to come up with that math. :mystery:  if there is anything i can do to help let me know.

Well, thanks a lot for going to the trouble of putting something like this together. I'm really looking forward to it.  cya.

Thanks for coming everyone. ill probably be doing this again in about 5 weeks.  its been fun.  I was knocked out in third roud  :'(.

The next round of the tournament will be this coming saturday at 10:00pm. I repeat, the time has changed.  matches are now at 10:00pm.
