i'm going to be the asshole that says what everyone's thinking but is too afraid to post:

if you're not in america, you are largely irrelevant to the american tourney scene. your input on how things are run is equally irrelevant. we do not owe you anything. by acting as entitled as you currently are, you are giving us less incentive to bother.

melty's time has come and gone. the excitement for it is not there anymore. we are running it primarily as an obligation more than anything. most of us are playing other games as our main or not playing at all. a lot of melty players didn't even enter. GFs was LK vs kashif using their 2nd/3rd string alts.

rounding up all the replays and details for a tournament that was mostly done out of obligation, not interest, is not going to be the first thing on most people's minds. stop acting like we're "killing" the scene when it's already more or less dormant.

as a TO, tigre is absolutely correct. if a game does not pull numbers, it does not deserve space, plain and simple. melty is not owed a tournament simply because it's melty. it needs to pull in numbers and excitement, and it has not been doing either since the last FR. in its current state, it is extremely unlikely to get any better.

there are newer games with more players and more excitement in events these days. that's why those games have more attention devoted to them: because that's where the interest is.

For example, F-Wlen has her universal set of BnBs, but against unlucky Kouma mains, she gains new tech to make them miserable.

this was patched out in the latest PC ver, along w/hime inf flight and c-satsuki airdodge inf

did some more testing and cleared up some icemat inconsistencies because i was seeing it hit people despite whiffing air normals

c and h moon characters actually can NOT airdash -> whiff air normal and land safely on icemat. f moon CAN.

this means f moon airdash -> whiff normal has no recovery and c/h does, since icemat is active the entire time it's onscreen

this also applies to airtech situations where you are out of options. let's say there's a mat and you randomly get tagged and airtech with the mat close to you underneath. if you do nothing, you are safe to land; however this means you are likely to get hit by fwlen 5b or 5c aa. if you attack, you commit to a move that she can probably space around and counter. air shielding is incredibly risky. air dodge also counts as a move and will get hit

here are some solutions:

1) use an attack that hits the icemat's greenbox to defuse it. good examples: c.hisui j.yayaya, ciel j.knife, c.miyako stomp (the shockwave, not the actual stomp part) bad examples: h/f ries 5b (greenbox comes out first, ries gets CH'd), c.nanaya 2a (same)

2) use an attack that touches fwlen before landing on the icemat. if fwlen blocks, the icemat is defused. to be safe, you can jump cancel on block to avoid the initial period when the mat is forming and cannot be defused (see above posts)

fwlen counters this via spacing. by properly moving around she will never let herself get touched and thus ensuring that you have to challenge the mat on your own somehow, staying just out of range to confirm mat hits but not getting in the way of the attacks. this is more difficult for some matchups such as nero and wara, and very good for her in others (miyako, akiha)

tldr version:

c and h need to find chara-specific ways to defuse the mat

f has a slight advantage that can be used in neutral, along with the chara-specific options

alright, extending my hosting offer for the weekend like usual. trying to get both mb and ah3 peeps to come through. mb guys are north and ah3 south. there's a bit of interest overlap so it'd be cool if everyone could come out

if not i'll just go hiking w/my brother again

tested vs rayza and mizuki

rayza, 4d, 57-59 fps fluctuations

miz, 3d, massive drops after the first 10 seconds down to 45fps

issue not resolved. not sure what you did to the code to cause this, 1.1 was perfect aside from the random ds/initial connect issues

10
tested vs rayza (wc -> ec)

mostly small 57-59 drops mid-round, the post-round 45 drop still there

noticing that all affected parties seem to have a winxp machine involved

11
first test vs ct_warrior (same person i tested 1.1 perfect on)

fps is better in the 55-60 range, possible fluctuations due to some changed gpu settings on his side + other people on his conn. definite improvement. post-round fps drop still present but in the 45s now instead of 30-35s. will post further testing as they come

so once again it's down to melty vs ah3 for this weekend, what's up w/friday + weekend

13
people i remember testing with:

kusanagi (no issues, 4d, standard 4d problems)
mizuki (massive lag, miz has a gaming rig too)
ct warrior (59-60 fps on 1.1, 40-49 fps midmatch on 2.0)

i have a pretty old pc but a netplay client should not have this type of severe performance issue, plus it runs 60fps offline.

14
whatever was done in this version has made starting the games up more stable but the in-game fps is completely fucked up. it reports 500+ variance with 2-3ms swings in ping to google, intro fps drops to 49, post-round fps drops to 35-40, mid-match fps is all over the place. this was with multiple people i tested, and overall the buffer feels worse but that could be imagination. i tested vs the same person using 1.1 right after the described 2.0 session and we had a full 60fps game. something is wrong w/the new client

15
ran into an issue where reducing damage caused the pc speaker to beep. makes 0 sense as nothing is mapped to keyboard but it happened 2-3 times over the course of a few games.

edit: did not happen on a subsequent set. however, i am confused as to who gets to pick post-game options; it seems to only be winner?

also, is there a reason the game drops fps in between rounds?

16
anything happening this saturday? might stop by super arcade for casuals if people go

this is the exact concept of how sandoori works and has been known since 2007 or so.

18
daimao "plays", and so does tsukibaka, but you should be able to beat them both easily

numakie is going to do rebel up and martee can't go without a ride

this one is looking to be mostly ah3 and xiii, so yeah, up to you

19
double posting in this thread cause it's most active

i'm hosting a house session this sat-sun. melty, ah3, poverty, whatever. if you want to pick up ah3 or get melty sets in this is the weekend. reply/PM/twitter for details/directions @waitingintheair

20
i'm going to ax idk about you

gonna eat hotpot and roscoe's

21
i'm going to sano-con this weekend too yeah

i'm not that good in ah3 which is why i want to focus on it lol

22
i'm setting melty aside for a while to focus on arcana. if anyone wants to get into it w/me and dots let me know. i know there were a couple of heads in 2010, not sure if anyone's still around. i'll play melty too at a meet but won't be concentrating on it for the moment

I've been re-watching these lately in pursuit of the Goma mixup. It's pretty fun to watch, at least for me. The beginning is kinda one-sided but it evens out.

this appears to be 1.05 but i'll take a look further since chen and gintoki both have their own styles and this one is a bit different

« on: May 10, 2013, 07:36:06 PM »
hello

looking for suggestions for interesting matchvids from players requesting analysis. will discuss decision-making, screen spacing, meter management, etc

please suggest youtube videos to discuss and i'll stream them and talk about it endlessly. non-interesting (like luckystar rapefests, low level play) or troll suggestions will be ignored

will announce here + twitter if/when i stream (will be random/when i feel like it + have time)

thank
